Hardcore mode not hardcoring?

I did press h-a-r-d and it went x1 in red, but it went white afterwards, so I wonder if it doesn't work or it is enabled but just in white?
I tried it twice but it did the same thing and since I'm solo I don't know if it still works or not

If you hold the buttons it switches between hardcore and normal
