There should be a SnAvatar menu where you can select a specific color and hat and maybe give your snail a nickname. This would also be a good screen to display stats.

I would love for our snails to have (toggle-able) names above their heads. If it was just nicknames where you can type anything there might be a concern of people writing offensive/inappropriate things, and while I think it would be pretty easy to report people with the current size of the playerbase, it probably wouldn’t be sustainable for the future. Maybe it could be people’s Steam names that show up (still potential problems with this but maybe if their account is linked it will be easier to report people?) or preset names with a snail-ly twist, like Snanthony, Snydney, Snariah, etc. Maybe even have last names too so there are more options; Snamantha Slimes, Snabitha Scoot, Snimothy Crawler, etc.

I never thought there would be a situation where I'd be all for preset names, but that's a really good idea. It'd still be a major help in narrowing down who's next to you!

so there's kinda a few ideas floating around here, and I want to make sure that each actionable idea is not lost. Please let me know if I'm missing anything:

  • New menu/UI for changing snail appearance
    • Possibly also show stats here
  • Ability to select specific snail color
  • Ability to select your hats via a GUI (as opposed to the current method)
  • Add snail names/nicknames/aliases/snaliases
    • Users would not have full control over names, to prevent "bad" names. Either preset names, or random-ish.
    • Ability to toggle visibility of others' names

I'll also throw in one of my own that I've been floating around in my brains:

  • Snails who are Steam friends appear slightly different. A glow? A green border? Would probably be togglable for purposes of maintaining the immersive simulation 😉

Maybe a little icon next to Steam friends' names or above them? And customization menus would be so helpful. I'd love to be able to tap R to be a little disco ball, but I'm worried I wont be able to re-find my normal color for a bit. (The hats menu could also show question marks/blank spaces to show how many are left to find?)

That seems like a good summary! The friends thing gives me an idea I will put in a new post to not add more to this one. But yeah everything you said sounds like a great way to organize the current options as well as connect with friends :) I like both the glow idea and the symbol idea

I like thei dea of shell lcustomization as well, like left-swirled shells or even different shell designs as well, since snails come in all kinds of shells

personally i think we could go with steam names, i get that there could be a bad word in a steam name but lets be so real, all a kid needs to see the most gut wrenching names is to open tf2, counterstrike or anything of the sorts
