Noticed when loading up my Snail Simulator it reset my time and lost my hats. Thankfully it didn't affect my PC, for now. Hoping it won't. Want to test it out more but afraid to lose all progress

There is no sync. It is all saved locally at the moment, so you would have to unlock the hats again on your Steam Deck.

This counts for time based achievements as well so don't be surprised if you get them at some seemingly random number like 103 or 1009 hours in stead of right when the time changes.

You can right click on the game in your steam library and somewhere in there is the option to navigate to your locally installed files. That's where it is but I don't know if switching files would transfer a game save from device to device. If you experiment and it does will you let us know here?

I tried that yesterday because I wanted to make a backup but that didn't work 
I did find the local files but it doesn't seem to contain a save file.

Aww too bad. There is a time fix that I personally haven't tried listed here that I don't understand or know anything about but it wasn't nixed. I'll link the thread here as soon as I find it.

On it's own steam is notoriously bad with timekeeping in a lot of games. I've watched it subtract 12 hours off of my total when I started a game. Valve doesn't ever address this that I can find but it isn't game specific.
