#render distance settings

Fog?
Only partially related, a spyglass? Maybe an observation tower so you can locate points of interest from a nice lookout
I was thinking of having a hand drawn map as a similar idea, but I think render distance settings mught make finding things too easy.
@wanton violet
Fog is cool. Can be added dynamically by having a script that interacts with the light settings of the scene. At least in URP
fog would look really weird
considering the environment is bright and sunny
I +1 the suggestion for just adding a render distance setting
The other thing I might do is increase the render distance when you're zoomed out so that you can see just as far as you can see when you're zoomed in
My biggest hesitation about freely letting folks choose their render distance is that now (and even moreso in the future) a big element of the game is exploration, and if you can zoom out and see everything, it robs from that.
On that same note, I might reduce how much you can zoom out. I think it's kinda funny you can zoom out so far that you can't even see your own snail, but I'm also open to the idea that other things outweigh that silliness
but...you're a snail, you shouldn't be able to see far
thanks for reminding me that I want to add a mode where you see out of your eye stalks
increase the render distance so the world doesnt look clipped and reduce the amount you can zoom by alot
thats how i would do it
I'm honestly happy with how it is in its current state.
I'd personally say you can zoom out in smaller incriments so zooming out is more precise and slower to do, so it seems like your zooming out even more.
I agree that adjusting the render in a way to see further would simply spoil a lot of special things that make up the map.
Maybe have tue render distance be able to be lowered from where it's at right now so it can triple framerates or whatever.
I just like the way it is and want to make sure the game still has the same spirit it's had.
Yess fsv (first snail view)
so much grey
btw this is coming in the next patch. it's already implemented, just not released.
