#cant login with steam or discord

After all the trying this keep pop up also
dont think this has anything to do with side7 though
youre right. we dont mess with that here
how to change?
still nothing
I had this error with my mesh Wi-Fi and I had to do something because it wasn’t secure and it was using the localhost. Can you try putting https:// in the front of the localhost?
i did some checking on this error and there's a couple fixes that might work.
i'm pretty sure in the Chrome section that you're already running the newest browser but skip down to clearing the SSL in the internet options or turning off Windows Firewall or even your antivirus. All i had to do was put https:// when i had my problem and it worked. some are saying just do http:// but i would imagine if https didn't work then http wouldn't work. Give these a try and see if that works
So, to help folks understand a bit more of what's going on here.
Side 7 authenticates using Steam or Discord. When you click on those login links, you are sent over the internet to Steam or Discord to sign in. When Steam or Discord finishes signing in, it is given a URL it's told to return to.
Normally, this URL would take you to another website. (the one you just authenticated with).
However, we send a special URL. localhost:53942. This special URL is actually telling the computer to talk to itself. So you aren't going out to the internet. Instead, the web browser is trying to access a webpage stored on itself ( the computer). The side 7 launcher itself is hosting a tiny website that knows how to handle the return. That's who localhost:53942 is, the actual launcher.
If for whatever reason, Windows firewall or any other anti-virus software is intervening with the launcher's ability to host this website or speak to it, we'll see errors, not dissimilar to this one.
It is unclear what exactly is causing the error, but something is misbehaving here.
@cunning gyro Are there debug logs for this that the user can provide us?
What kind of ISP is this
ISP is internet service provider
Was this fixed?
Unfortunately we've not been able to reproduce the issue. You'll need to work with @cunning gyro on debugging this further
Since we're unable to reproduce the issue and it is specific to your environment, we may need your assisstance in debugging the issue
We've not seen other issues experienceing this issue
Hmm confusing bug eh?
It may just be a virus messing with his computer or pc
Gamemaster does the game have any virus or antivirus/firewall protecting it? Or something may be wrong in the files of the game.
This would be before the game. This is an issue specific with the launcher. You can see a fuller explanation here #1271825447994527868 message
It's possible a firewall is causing issues with the internal server that the game runs on.
But it's difficult tos ay
Maybe
Firewalls are tricky
Did you get an error code Ted or like anything that can give a little lead to solving this
@cunning epoch it may be a antivirus saying that the game is acting like a virus but it isn’t and the antivirus is blocking access
Like the launcher
Looking at Ted's error, I wonder if it's an encoding issue with the machine
Possibly because it said it in a different language
That's my line of thinking
Perhaps the internal server is failing to parse something inbound from that token
Honestly maybe he can take it to the place he bought it at and have it get checked
Maybe it could be
I don't think that'd help him. Probably better for us to get that JWT and decode it and see what's happening there
Yea they would probably scam him and say that he has to buy a new one with todays people
Looking at this it seems that something protecting the device is stoping the connection because it says it is not secure something like a firewall antivirus or something inside the computer
It's possible that it's not happy about the HTTP and not HTTPs yeah
If it is malforming it something must be causing it
Like something that is in plain sight but hidden
Don’t you guys use local host:53942?
That's what we bind to locally yes
Either the payload has characters in it that it doesn't like when decoding
Hmmm
or some HTTP/HTTPS antics are malforming or dropping the payload
Maybe the decoding is the problem the device may be saying “ hey this is new and it may be something harmful”
And it even warns him not to put personal info
Unsure. Will need to inspect the payload. Hey @cunning epoch can you reproduce this issue again and DM me the entire URL? localhost:53942/success?code=eyJh... from your browser?
I’d say it’s probably the payload like you said interfering with something
But this is the only issue that you guys have seen?
It may just be his device if it is
This pic says localhost is an invalid response his computer or pc is blocking it or saying that it doesn’t know it
Ay gamemaster good brainstorming problems that it could be but I gtg cya
yeah sure sry for being late
I'm also seeing this issue
but FF can't even open it at all
for me, it does not even open the local web server
Yours looks to ve different. When did your issue start? After the upgrade to the new launcher?
honestly, no idea.
I just tried the new launcher though and it wasn't working
The original poster seems to be having the local host server error on payload return. Yours seems to be unable to contact it in the first place. Makes me think Windows firewall or Firefox or something is blocking access
I don’t even see it open the web server
No locally bound socket for tcp/53942
I’ll restart my computer later
Not sure offhand why it would work and stop. Let me know what you need from us, but I think you're self sufficient in debugging
Hey @cunning epoch , @crisp laurel was discussing with me a possible workaround method that may get you into the game. If you have some time, please check in with @crisp laurel who'll be assisting you

let me re install the game real quick
you dont need to reinstall the game to test this
ok
can you download the new launcher rq #installation-guide message
damn. the idea was for the internal server error. not this lol rip
re open work
we down too
double word i cant say
bad words. sorry
Have Lt Ted send you that localhost URL
Then launch your launcher, start the sign-in process, but don't sign in on the browser. Once the page comes up, paste the URL that Ted sends you
It might authenticate on your launcher.
Then you have a launcher.cfg generated you can pass back
make sure to dm it though @cunning epoch
Same as what you sent me earlier. Just make sure you send a recent one while it's still valid
just sent it back
You sent the launcher.cfg back?
i got it
put it in the same folder as your launcher
👍
Charbrose, did you go through the rest of setup btw?
no
Or did you leave it after sign in but before patching?
just the login
like this ?
we up
A bit hacky, but if it works it works.
still i have thing to ask
@cunning epoch im going to delete the screenshots involving the link you sent. make sure to delete the link you sent me as well
can goveerment effect this ?
The issue you are having specifically, it is extremely unlikely.
However, technically governments could tell ISPs within their country to restrict access to certain URLs
but my phone internet can still do access so i just think it might be the same
@crisp laurel
can i close it now ?
the luncher
It could be your ISP
you can
this was to get you passed the point so you could get the game going
since youre not hard locked at the launcher anymore
Yep. You can re-open the launcher and it'll take you to the same setup step. Next step is to get the actual game again and then run the patcher. After that you'll need to do unpacking of the exe
by any chance do you have it saved from when we did it before or did you delete it?
i delete it ; - ;
rip. youll need to redo the unpack then
bright side is that youre passed the internal server error
progress is progress
yeah one thing is u guys should have like "when avalible time" cus it like 4 in the moring for me
XD
tbf we dont know when were available either. everyones a volunteer here
yep it i understand
were generally active and get back to someone when we have a chance
so not too much worries
oh were opening up ths problem again
We were able to find a hacky workaround.
oh nice
certified magic
Point proven. Masterful self sufficiently. The most sophisticated troubleshooting art of turning it off and on again once again prevails
