When people hated on Elden Ring: Nightreign, we just played and had fun. The same with inZOI

They all do that, point is there's still lots of stuff behind closed doors, for the press, or in a limited controlled environment(aka. behind a barrier line of sort, not open floor setup.), so it's closer to E3, where as Gamescom there's basically little to nothing of that.

While I didn't go to 2023 one, I've been to gstar before, and it was closer to E3 for sure.
And I still did not find anything from inzoi 2023 booth that isn't a presser or shown to be in a controlled environment of sort.
While for Gamescom it was truely open for all, with tons of videos and pics from randoms showing them playing it etc.

Hence a true "general public" experience 🙂

The Paralives crowd are in a sunk cost fallacy and imagining a super duper fun game when there doesn't seem to be one. And the InZoi crowd ( myself included) are overly sensitive to the game being called lifeless AI slop. It's the same convo over and over. Tim Sweeney is an idiot but he's not wrong about nearly all companies using AI in some way now, might as well add the tag everywhere, or specify more like 'Some creative design elements in this game were created with generative AI' or something like that. That way you can distinguish between games using generative AI to make art (writing, music, graphics), and game studios that use AI in a way that doesn't really turn them into art-stealing bad guys. But even then it'd be hard to distinguish between 'this piece of creative design was fully created by an AI and then planted into the game' or 'the creative artist asked AI to give them some reference material as inspiration'

I think we mostly want to know about those companies that do the first one ('this piece of creative design was fully created by an AI and then planted into the game') because that's where our main concerns lie. Epic Games though lowkey funding the indie industry single handly
Those exclusive deals are apparently so good (that I've heard from friends) that it's "You basically can only make profit"
They basically can pay your entire development costs if you go exclusive with them
Not only that, they now take a 0% cut until you make $1 million in sales, then they take 12%
Steam meanwhile is a 30% cut until you make 10mil and they drop it to 25% and then 20% after 50mil

Steam takes a BIG cut that a lot of new indies can't gurantee they'll get the number of players for to make profit

Which is why I'll never be mad at, at least, indie devs who take it

Triple A is a different story

I don't know why Kingdom Hearts needed to be exclusive

The only reason they're doing that right now is because they are trying to 'outbuy' the competition. If you have to go through means like hogging exclusives to make people use your platforms, your platform sucks. And if they're not taking your money they're taking your data to sell.

Apparently though, if Krafton ever chooses to host servers in Tencent cloud, they might be able to gain access, and I am hoping that doesn't see the day, and user data privacy will be protected against 3rd parties.

Yeah they're very consumer friendly that's not disputed but If Epic Games wasn't doing what they were doing I don't think we'd have the indie scene having grown to what it is now
Like we'd just not have much scene at all

Those grants and exclusivity deals are really good
And for very small studios and solo devs, it really opens a big door for people to even be in the industry

Epic also funds a lot of the universities and game courses too

They see it as
More people coming into the industry = innovation and growth
I don't think they're perfect but I don't think people realise how barren the indie scene would be without them funding it behind the scenes
They're a big part the scene is as big as it is now
