Generally speaking, when it comes to ventilation/fans in computers, it is better to leave the bottom without any fans and the top or side or both with fans because the air needs to get out somehow. So yes I think having top and on the side fans is better.

i was really skeptical when my kids school provided her with her personal ipad but i can tell it's a really good tool

oh yeah all kids in my county ages 7-10 gets their own ipad

kids 11-15 gets a laptop

there are so many good apps, especially for math

there are apps where the teachers can track how the kids are doing so far

anecdotally, those apps are Amazing for some kids but a huge curse for others 💀

but that's why multimodality is important

Cool topic. I am also in the ed psyc field/finished my PhD in 2022...looked at empathy and theory of mind understanding by using a whole-class style social story. I actually have some of the characters from my story in my inzoi world/grew attached to them. Also had them in sims 4 and SL.

I like AI images for making quick cartoons for my powerpoint slides to illustrate concepts. (e.g. a grumpy sleepy neuron to indicate more negative charge at rest). They work well for educational memes if you want to teach a quick concept and my students like them.

Writing theses is why I don't want to pursue masters or phd... but I have to go to law school to practice law so I'm prayingggg on my hands and knees that I won't have to write a legal thesis to graduate

I enjoyed doing research, but surprisingly after graduation I found I like teaching more (I guess it makes sense as I originally wanted to be an elementary school teacher, however some perceptual and motor difficulties made it difficult to manage a class of a bunch of children). I love teaching undergrads though/super rewarding and hope some of my students will teach elementary or early childhood 🙂. I'm leaning towards applying for a sessional extended contract and then working my way into a permanent lecturer position, but keeping up educational research in areas where I see a need for research...keep it purposeful versus publish or perish. I work at a 4-year-school (my undergrad alma mata), and they are really teaching focused. Once I knew teaching elementary wasn't going to work out due to physical/perceptual limitations, it was my dream to teach at this school. Lots of different paths with PhDs other than tenure track/straight research or industry.

The campus I work at is in a downtown area (Canadian city but actually looks a lot like Dowan as lots of Asian businesses downtown/lots of Chinese and Korean influence in the design). Dowan actually reminds me of going for a walk in rl a few blocks from my campus. My city also has a river in the middle with some awesome parks. There are some places like you shared though in my neighborhood...as the city limits are more suburban.

Pre-pandemic, a friend and I used to often walk to Chinatown for lunch at many of the little resturaunts in my rl city....but most of those places didn't stay open during the pandemic and downtown is just starting to rebuild (crime, drugs etc.). Usually this friend and I will lunch at one of the malls now or visit each other's houses...but I hope for a day again where my city is settled enough again I feel safe hopping the subway everywhere or walking into Chinatown like the zois do.
