I guess mine is perceptually sound, but with the new tonemapper, it's mathematically sound i guess.

All Valve games feature some form of HDR rendering but none of them have HDR output

You can’t toggle off the dynamic tonemapper (eye adaptation) unless you have sv_cheats enabled or you’re the map maker and can control the tonemap settings

It was something the software renderer supported but wasn't properly supported by the hardware renderer
