#▫️Star Wars: Outlaws

i have not
Worth a shot
Did you try the low settings for cinematic effects. Right?
Imagine clarity spikes up, but the aliasing is quite distracting.
I ended up appreciating the blurriness of the effects and turned on film grain as well to add some kind of fake definition. Haha. Image ended up soft but pleasing to the eye somehow.
Honestly I’m only really bothered by how blurry the character model is
Especially her hair
It’s right up to the camera and it’s just a smear
Might be from RT, I didn’t test
well first and foremost the game is very ray tracing heavy and since it is still very taxing on gpus every single person will need to use DLSS in at the very least quality mode and even frame gen to get the most out of the game. And if you dont have a 4090 most likely u need to go to lower base resolutons so u wont even get that upscale from 1440p to 4k and this will inevitably contribute to a lot of smearing and artifacting. Lets face it if u want to max out this game you absolutely need a 4090 and the game even cripples that gpu at the moment, in a way this game is meant for the future generation of hardware I can see why people are upset about it>
The image quality it offers is kind of unparalleled when u get in the game but only if u can upscale from a reasonably high base resolution and use ray reconstruction + even rtxdi
fwiw the crashing is pretty much unchanged for me too 😭
was kinda hopeful given how big this patch ended up being and the fairly generic stability improvements the patch notes mentioned but nope
i really was holding out hope that at least by the time 24H2 was rolling out widely on windows update they would have this fixed, and the timing of this patch made me hopefult hat they managed at the veryb last minute possible
but nope
game still doesnt work properly on the version of windows that "everyone" is now getting if they have win updates on
Hoped the same
There's a patch coming today. isn't it?
Yup
It's great to see that the Windows 11 24H2 crashes have been mentioned as something they are investigating (not that there was any doubt, but it's nice to have complete certainty), but in terms of timeframe since the launch of the game I was really hoping/honestly expecting this would be fixed by now, not just making the list of known bugs for the first time.
At this stage I think there's a real risk I'll never pick this game back up, the crashes have made it unplayable at settings that take advantage of my hardware, and we are now entering a season with so much other stuff that I will prioritise playing (can't wait to get stuck into the latest Alan Wake 2 DLC!!) that if I'm being honest the chances that I'll ever come back to Outlaws once the crashes are finally fixed (if? 😬 ) are minimal
Which is sad, bc I did want to experience more of it, but it's been such a technical slog so far that I have a feeling it'll be a distant memory by the time I've gone thru the holiday glut and other stuff on the backlog... :/
Hope they can find how to fix it before it launches on Steam.
This patch was supposed to be focused on QoL witch sounded weird on the first time. It's not like it's an MMO with lots of systems that needs improvements. Some patch notes were already on the last patch which was really impactful. Not sure how many things this one changed really, but looks like kind of filler for that roadmap Ubi released when they also delayed Assassin's Creed.
Did anybody experience something like this? Or just this few users systems? I did unsubscribe until I buy it on Steam next week.
I havent played it in a while, waiting for the sabacc dlc
Still no price on Steam though.
and AC shadows not up for pre purchase either
sa sabbac DLC is coming on friday, I suppose thats the steam release as well?
Thursday here I thought. But yes. Steam plus DLC. I wanted to buy it along the so called season pass. Hope pricing is fair.
Interesting line about lens effects. Although I came to appreciate the forced ones.
Now... Do Steam achievements work retroactively? I don't think so. Right? Don't know what to do. Might start a new playthrough.
well
this game still crashes
loaded in the first time in 2 months - instant crash
after all the patches and stuff
have they really not fixed the windows 11 crash yet?
those steam reviews will not be kind
Was the patch out already? Although I'd say this is on MS end to fix. Seen people with lots of stability issues while others swear it never crashes to them... Weird nonetheless.
On Steam:
Also, we have just deployed a temporary hotfix (v1.4.1) for players who were experiencing issues playing on Windows 11 24H2. Please note that you may experience some performance issues while we work on a more permanent fix. As soon as it is ready, we will let you know. Thank you for your patience.
No I am so damn confused about the editions. FCK!
Some sites say the latest cosmetics are included in the Gold edition, some other say it's in the Ultimate. What a lovely game what a shittiest publisher.
I want this.
I really cant keep track of the cosmetics in this game tbh
Have to be honest, this issue has been known for quite a while now (at least 1.5 months). Surprises me that that it takes them this long to bring out a fix... and still... only a temporary one that likely hampers performance 😅
there are some in the gold edition as well, but u get a shit ton in game so u can dress your key as you like
I like to use this jacket for Kay
Also, people seem to use the reviews not to comment on the game, but to burn down the publisher. Up to you if you find this justified or not, but I feel pity for the souls at Massive Entertainment that seemingly become the victim of Ubisoft's decisions.
yea people can be really shitty tbh, if they see that something is failing they will actively try to make it fail even harder and clown on it
this tribal mentality
like this
Anyway, I am enjoying the DLC, although it doesnt even have much Sabacc in it and what it has is scripted so yea... disappointed on that front
Yeah, schadenfreude. People love seeing something go down in flames
I understand the hate towards Ubisoft a bit though with their internal rumored misconduct, toxic work-environment, shattering of The Crew 1 and statement about people should "get used to not owning games"
But still, a game that honestly seems to try hard... shouldn't get burned down as a whole for that
I think the game might be beyond saving at this point because of the sheer toxic negativity Ubisoft caused themselves lately
ubisoft did it to themselves over the years true
but people really are just sheep
now its acepted to shit on ubisoft
yet nobody shits on from software when they reskin demon souls for the 5th time u know what I mean. I clowned on ubisoft a lot because of how assassin's creed was almost a yearly franchise at some point and everything was just a reskin from the previous games but when ubisoft delivers unique games I see the value in that
The main difference is market saturation. UbiSoft style open world games are dime and dozen, but soulslikes are still a relatively niche, plus it's generally agreed that FromSoft is still the best at it
I think a lot of the disdain came from the fact for the long, LONG time (even to this day really) this style of the open world gameplay design was a de facto default for the industry
A hotfix. HAHAHA.
Lol. I wrote support asking for more details and specifics on each edition.
By the way. Did you try the lens effect off now? Also I heard by chance the creative director in the 5 mins I saw of the livestream saying that they tweaked the previous one as well, like adjusting depth and such.
okay I completed the DLC
took me 2.5h
and I did ''side stuff'' which is jsut optional stuff in the main quest
MEH
very small imo
btw I dress Key in this outfit
Did not even do Jabba's myself. Might start over. But yes. I knew it was going to be anecdotal at best.
Im disappointed because there was barely any sabbac at all
not even a repeatable tournament or anything
its just part of the story that u are in a sabacc tournament, takes like 10m, hella scripted, u cant even lose
So... I have an Ubisoft support email saying "Two upcoming cosmetic bundles, released with Story Pack 2 (Kessel Runner Cosmetics)" with Ultimate edition. What if I purchase this and thay never como as I suspect it'll happen. Will Steam refund me? Haha. Probably.
I conned Ubisoft once by buying the ultiamate edition of AC valhalla on steam, refunding it
then I bought the regular edition of AC valhalla on steam but Ubi connect still gave me all DLC
Nice. Haha.
Also I see that the Steam edition of Ubi games is not available on those cheap key resellers.
shouldve brought back pazaak
Hope they're planning something abit bigger for it and this game.
So finally I found all the information on the editions.
Ultimate will receive further cosmetics.
Also. HDR still needs a bit of black floor lowering right?
Yes
Forgot how I had mine set up, but I think just a bit by eye. Even less than Lilium's SDR emulation defaults.
It’s gamma mismatch
Meaning it’s same as paper white
Iirc the default paper white looked to be about 200
I know technically it should be like that. But I find the image super dark always that I try that method.
could be that they really did mean for it to be played on srgb gamma displays
though that would mean that everyone playing on tv wouldn't be able to view it right
so it's unlikely
I had mine set at 200 and was happy with it
It's more complicated than that :)
Oof
At least it gets the UI looking right
Didn’t take a close look at the game beyond the first scene
Yeah, it's close enough
And for the UI blending it's probably actually correct
but for the actual scene it's more complicated
Well if the UI blending is different then the gamma mismatch fix is only gonna get opaque elements looking right
I didn’t think to check if it was blending in PQ in hdr
I thought about fixing ui blending in gow2018 but decided it wasn’t worth finding every single UI shader in order to do so
I once bought Anno 1800 additionally on Steam and got all the achievs afterwards.
Nah. I'm eager to start over I'd say. Let's see if I summer so much now into it as my first halfish playthrough.
Now you can turn off lens effects and the image becomes way crispier. BUT! As much as I went crazy trying to get rid of this in the first days. Now I cannot play without those lens effect that somehow I came to enjoy a lot. Gave the game a lot of taste.
You sure it does not crush shadows at some point?
sorry for the stupid question, but I do it like in the screenshot?
Playing with it like that myself now. Some scenes are definitely darker, but not always hit absolute 0 so it's alright I guess. Far from consonant crushing danger I mean. Although I'm still wrapping my head around this method and WHY?!! does almost every single game needs this kind of fix.
By the way. Was Frame Generation always off during cutscenes and some game interactions before?
OK. Crashing like crazy now in my new system with a fresh Windows install...
Did it keep crashing for you after the DLC update as usually @wise radish?
I was playing yesterday with 0 crashes for hours. Now it refuses to let me play more than 10 minutes. Sad.
Well. Let's attempts were 2:30 and 1:40 minutes to be exact...
Oh boy this is unplayable. So bummed down. Bought the 100€ Steam edition.
I'd go back to 23H2 but apparently it's not even possible if I did a fresh 24H2.
I don't care if I have to install Windows once again. But damn you MS, it's quite not very easy to install this previous version. Although I think I can somehow do so.
Will ask on SK that's where I throw up all my tech troubles. Haha.
Or might as well just install Win10.
u are very dedicated to Outlaws
when I was getting these constant crashes heres what I did:
toggled fullscren and windowed FS in the menu and deactivated RTX DI and then loaded into the game
then changed these back
probably placebo but sometimes this helped and I could have long game sessions after
but yea its just shite
Loved the game as was excited for a new run. Haha. I honestly love it, like the atmosphere and everything is so well catered. Feels great playing it slowly.
Might even go to Win 10 for all I care. Haha.
Did that. Kind of worked. For 5 minutes... Haha. I'm using a stopwatch even to track this.
Than even crazier that you cannot roll back on Widnows.
Well. Somehow I installed a 23H2 edition. Did it offline. Now I'm afraid as soon as I go online it'll update. Is there a way to select Windows updates manually?
if you're on home edition that can happen, I always reccomend people remotely savvy should get windows pro
My pro is still on 23h2
Hahaha. Might as well do another install. Moved from Enterprise which was still on 23H2 to Home and then... Bam!
I remember I even got and update for AMD CPUs performance that was not part of 24H2 around September iirc. But new install screwd me.
It's been quite a process managing to get an old ISO and putting that on a FAT32 USB drive.
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-11-24h2#3448msgdesc Now an official known issue, those 24H2-freezes. Still unknown where the issue really lies for me. As it is exclusive to a set of Ubisoft games, I suspect some dependency used between Ubisoft studios or Ubisoft Connect itself?
Interesting nonetheless. Just Ubisoft games. Haha.
To be fair. It's kinda BS that the OS decides to break your game.
Also, it might affect other games but only a big company like Ubisoft is able to get Microsoft to listen to them.
I know that pain when I file browser bugs
Got to that MS page yesterday when I went crazy trying to install 23H2 . Although Windows inhalations really feel like a roulette so that might be as well. Now it's working perfectly with no crashes so far (23H2) and I'd say it's performing better. Was testing in the so called Mirogana stairs of doom and I'm getting more sable performance now.
24H2 updates should be blocked if Outlaws (and a few other games) is installed.
So it should be a non-issue
At least as of yesterday
Really? Neat.
@fringe depot if u ever want to disable updates for whatever reason
and this to turn em back
with this disabled u can still install updates manually using the kbxxxxx .exes
I’m staying on 23H2 for as long as possible lol
I saw this other method. Something about changing your updates policy and you could tell your system to stick to one version until end of life but still get other kind of updates.
But if I'm understanding correctly. You mean Windows blocks it or it should be done by the user?
Windows Update won't give you the update.
You can still update to 24H2 manually, but it won't do it on its own.
Great to know. Thanks a lot for all your answers pal^^
24h2 has issues with kernel level DRM lol
this is an ongoing issue with hardware flip queue, disable Hardware Accelerated Graphics Scheduling to revert to a classic flip queue, or disable windowed mode enhancements and run the game borderless window.
from the subreddit
interesting
i figured it was DirectX related, but i do know microsoft incrementally creeps in more support for old games that use exclusive fullscreen
new games have no business using exclusive fullscreen
@gaunt quiver 24H2 crashes appear to be flip related
ubisoft games still use exclusive fullscreen ? does d12 even support it?
eFSE for things like Freesync HDR, that's it.
There's a lot of different problems with 24H2 though
afaik disabling hw flip queue and windowed optims wouldn't fix outlaws crashing for example
24h2 has compatibility issues with Easy Anti-Cheat too
dx12 supports fullscreen in code i think, but Windows does some optimizations on it https://devblogs.microsoft.com/directx/demystifying-full-screen-optimizations/
You can ask it to be fullscreen
It's not gonna be fullscreen like it would've been in DX11 and earlier though
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/direct3d12/swap-chains#transitioning-between-windowed-and-full-screen-modes buncha extra stuff here for DX12 specifically
FSE does not exist in d3d12 because flip is incompatible with it.
What FSE does in d3d12 is forcing a mode switch
yeah, it links to the optimizations i mentioned above:
Direct3D 12 doesn't support full-screen exclusive mode (FSE). Instead, when a game is the only visible application on-screen, the OS uses a strategy called full-screen optimisations (FSO) to achieve a similar effect to FSE without the performance drawbacks. For more info about FSO, see Demystifying Fullscreen Optimisations.
FSO is MPO plane 0 with the restrictions being borderless, app resolution matching current display resolution and app window being at 0x0
Ah yeah and app needs to be flip
theres no FG without HAGS tho, right?
and this game without FG is a bit rough for my tastes ( ofcourse could just lower the gfx
Interesting how this game puts so much lively public spaces full of NPCs and animations going on and my CPU sits at 60 W. Haha. Guess it's like this for everybody, right? I mean, not really CPU intensive.
Just updated mine and started to measure and take a closer look at all this stuff just a few months back.
Can I ask, what is the source on that? Because it sounds very much like a random Reddit user just guessing haha
Wouldn't surprise me if that is also because those don't update for Windows's improved security measures
Found it, indeed just a random user it seems, or is it a developer on something? Edit: doesn't seem like it: https://www.reddit.com/r/windowsinsiders/comments/1e68atz/comment/ljlu6lv/
So, nothing is confirmed
It's from the reddit link from the MSN article
I don't like how they don't detail the exact issue. Very odd
Microsoft I mean
You might observe issues when starting, loading or during active gameplay. Some games might show a black screen.
That's it
The game would show on the task manager, will crash and sometimes stay "stuck" using 20 Kb until you either log out or reboot.
From the reddit page. I know for I've had this happen to me before. I think DXMD. Something I used to do with the swapchain could cause it.
That does make it even LESS reliable 😂
the commentor seems to know quite a bit about d3d12 development if you look at their comment history
These games might become unresponsive while starting, loading or during active gameplay. In some cases, users might receive a black screen. Is what they show on the known issues page, which is exactly how users will experience the issue. There has been no public response on what the exact internal issue is. I don't find that that surprising honestly. Likely too complicated for the average joe/jane and expect news media would rip it out of context like they so often do
Idk, hard to see at first glance. Valerii also sounded well-knowledged at first glance...
It was the very best example of what I could think of. I possibly could have mentioned a more recent example, but someone would get mad-d-d 😂
UI, HUD and Settings
Updated options for Frame Generation and DLSS
?
New patch has dropped with quite a list of bug fixes, but nothing new.
Best one I'd say one that claims fixes some issues with some NPCs clothes clipping.
Wonder about this updated DLSS FG options though. Will check tomorrow.
Would anybody be so kind to remind me why Black Floor Fix was that necessary in this game? I enjoy how it makes many areas way less foggy, but I'm having second thoughts about it mighty be changing the artistic intent a bit too much.
It matches SDR
Makes sense then. Haha.
So was not Windows supposed to deter itself from updating to 24H2 if Outlaws was installed? Now my system is kind of forcing me to update and I don't know how to stop it. It was a pain rolling back to 23H...
On pro?
Yes. I think I decided to go with Pro because there was a way you cold stick to 23H2 until end of support but don't see the option to do so.
But Outlaws got a 24H2 fix, didn't it?
Kind of. But I have had zero crashes on 23H2 since I installed it fresh because I was crashing in less than a minute on 24H2.
hm it's still optional for me.
It is for me but keeps telling me to update.
as long as it's only providing the option and not making you click it
says i'm up to date just gives the option like usual
I paused the updates though. But don't want to keep doing this every now and then. Would like to see the option for sticking to 23H2 and forget about potentially updating by a missclick.
theres nothing wrong with 24h2 tbh except for those 2 games imo
this pc never once crashed since I installed it
although I installed it completely fresh
sparking zero and outlaws?
Just Outlaws crashes. But I'm still playing so I don't want to update.
avatar and outlaws
understandable then
ah sparking zero has a multiplayer issue
either due to the update or due to people playing on different versions of windows
might be weird anticheat stuff
im hearing very conflicting stuff about whether the 24h2 bug has been fixed or not
personally im on 24h2 (and was for ages when it was beta branch) and outlaws used to crash like every few mins, booted it up a few days ago but only got about a half hour of play in, which is good, but also was sometimes possible when it was still fully fked so i dont rly know yet
afaik (someone maybe check in case i dreamt this) microsoft has taken avatar and outlaws off their preventing 24h2 update list since the latest combo of windows + game updates?
but im still seeing complaints from peeps, while others seem to say its fine now
what a shit show
just to let everyone know i did not dream or imagine it 😅
it sounds like the half fix that was that hotfix from a few weeks ago that fixed it for some peeps, didnt for others, caused a performance penalty for some, not for others, was enough for MS to lift the ban
which tbf is probs fair even if my msg sounds v salty haha
i dont think MS designed these update holds for "this thing needs to work perfectly", more like "its no longer completely broken"
though this one in particular still seems a bit fishy given some players continue to have the same issue it seems
They fixed it for some AC Games and maybe Outlaws slid into the green flag for the Win update...
24H2 2
i mean it's not like devs don't have time to find issues and fix them, these releases come out for like half a year but no one bothers to test lmao.
24H2 in general is just a giant mess.
Considering the sheer amount of stuff this update has broken it's pretty fair to say this is on Microsoft
im more than happy to blame both parties
the fact that this was more or less only ubi games should serve as an indication
the fact that 24h2 has caused so many other issues for peeps should also be relevant haha
Anybody tested the new DLSS model in Outlaws? I've read a comment saying it's just sharper but with more ghosting and artifacts.
I might check it out on Final Fantasy Rebirth tonight just bc it's image quality is so bleurgh - from what others have reported its a pretty major improvement in most areas except for some specific areas being a bit fked (e.g. distant alpha textures)
It's hard to do comparisons in this game due to dynamic weather but this is as close as I could get to do so.
Old vs new DLSS .dlls.
SR or RR?
RR.
The light seems more diffuse and less accurate with the new version on the first scene... Don't know... Also the textures on the wall seem to lose detail.
OK. I cannot even set DLSS ingame anymore no matter what I try.
Original RR vs the latest forced through the app.
I fail to see any imporovements. It's looks just brighter and while it recovers detail in some areas, some others getworde looking. Might reflect the light more accurately on the edges and such but... Not sure. Maybe still cooking although I'm affraid the Oulaws project it's in bare bones now.
Is anyone still having issues with this game on 24H2 after they supposedly fixed it, or just me?
I've done a complete reinstall of the game and gfx drivers, and the crashing behaviour is exactly the same it has always been 😦
i think at this point ill just never get to continue playing it, regardless of whether i want to or not...
Im not touching this until the 2nd dlc
its not really good as an open world game once you went through the content that's pretty much it
yeah no i beat it the other day and
not much to do i feel. i know that's not true - i love the universe too
i was actually lukewarm to the story and kay, too. she grew on me towards the end. hell, the last mission was rad as hell
still, the open world is very ubisoft. its stale. its repetition. its the menial things with little diversity. and you could say that of every game, but that is especially a glaring problem in ubisoft open world games
I won't touch it again until a get a GPU haha.
I don't know wtf this game's issue is with my computer lmao
unless its this broken for everyone
the reflex implementation is basically broken for me or at least works differently to any other game ive ever tried
if you turn on frame gen, it forces v-sync off and won't let you set a frame rate limit any more, so now i get constant tearing whenever my FPS is too high
this is the only game ive ever played where reflex being on (which is forced on as part of FG) doesnt result in reflex limiting the frame rate below the display's max
So... New GPU arriving today to finally complete my build. Now...
Not sure if install windows up to date or go straight to the 23H2 and save time because it'll inevitably crash under 24H2. Who wants to bet?
fwiw im on the latest build of 24H2 and all my crashes resolved once i rolled back to the 566.45 NV driver from Dec-24
have played hours long sessions since then with zero crashes
Interesting... Cannot do older drivers due to the new GPU series. Well... Testing now. What I can tell is the new frame generation model produces more artifacts than before. Happens in Final Fantasy XVI as well. Same issue with the hair and head leaving a trail when you move it against the clear sky.
Might try just changing the DLL to the previous version, because this game does not support that fanfared feature that allows changing versions through the Nvidia app.
Raytraced Specular Reflections might be totally broken. Aren't they? High vs. Ultra. In Ultra the detail just vanishes and you can see some weird artifacts appering.
Like a pattern.
I thought it was because I had -unlockmaxsettings enabled, but Ultra settings are unlocked in the regular game as well so it can happen to anybody under normal circumstances.
Now if you go Max... Reflections just go crazy.
yeah, Alex from DF brought this up recently
the issue was introduced alongside the recent DLSS 4 patch
Can anyone else test this issue in Star Wars Outlaws with Ray Reconstruction + "Outlaw/Max Settings"?
Toshara, near the inner city security checkpoint. As I show here "Ray Traced Specular Reflections" set to Max goes crazy with RR, w/ Ultra as I show at 24 seconds, it looks normal. You can see...
Wow...
I don't remember how it was before, maybe I was not using those settings. But I think that quality degradation when you past High settings was present before DLSS 4 as well. So might be linked.
Wonder if using the new RR version which I think it's not implemented yet in Outlaws would help.
Oh, @whole wedge is around here right? Any update on this maybe? Haha.
the latest DLSS DLLs for super resolution, frame generation and ray reconstruction were all implemented in the last patch
I think just SR and FG was updated. But will have to check properly though.
You might wanna ask the person that actually worked on this game for that
ray reconstruction as well
Either way, it needs to be patched probably, so it will be fixed when it will be fixed
I'm sure they are aware of the issue at least
Oh I tested when DLSS 4 was launched and not when the game got updated. But Nvidia app shows no support for updating those and had to do it manually.
yeah, the override whitelist can be dumb, but they're implemented by the game itself now
Sure... Maybe @spring turret could throw some light as well^^
Are people actually reporting this in official forums or somewhere you could point me to?
What I find more intriguing is the apparent quality reduction when you go from High to Ultra. I think this was always present and I thought well... Maybe it's a better representation of lighting? Haha.
But now to this obvious new bug I took a closer look and well...
Small patch on Steam, but RT specular reflections beyond High are still broken on Ultra or utterly broken on Max/Outlaw.
RT specular reflections resolution Ultra vs. Max. Interesting how everything becomes more bright on Max. Maybe because there are more objects being reflected? What would that have to do with resolution? Haha.
Also some textures seem to kind of disappear or dissipate too much. Like the ones under the counter or the pipes and chair on the right.
I'm really confused with RT specular reflections settings. Haha. And I don't think higher levels bring any improvements beyond a certain point, quite the contrary to my eye I'd say.
I'd say "Ray Traced Specular Reflection resolution" controls how many materials do reflect light and that's why it makes it look like many textures disappear. They're still there, but since they interact with the lighting much more I think the denoiser just can't keep up and the image becomes very fuzzy in motion.
Just played through this for the first time this month, so with all the DLSS 4 goodies, and I think apart from character rendering it might be the most impressive looking game I've ever seen in its current state. Slap the black floor fix on it and it's right up there with Cyberpunk. A pretty interesting take on the Ubisoft formula too - maybe it was in a way worse state at launch, but I really think people missed the boat with it, such a shame that it seems to have been a bomb. Massive really is a top-tier dev.
Glad some people are enjoying it :)
agreed, its way overhated
the only issue with is that its not very replayable and the open world itself doesnt really add to the experience. this would have been fine as a full linear game even
but u know tons of games are like this
honestly i loved it. it took me awhile to warm up to the protag
Just bought SW Outlaws on Ubisoft Connect, and now their servers are down so I can't play my newly purchased single player game. Nice
ubisoft doesn't want you to "own" the game anyway
Was it on sale or something for Ubi shop? I simped the ultra golden premium plus edition whatever on Steam. Waiting for another full playthrough on the 15th.
I got standard edition for 54% off on GMG
good deal, the first dlc wasnt worth it
its like 2 hour long
with side content
and they didnt add any repeatable card matches even though that was the theme of the whole DLC
huge missed opportunity because the card game is really fun
its just too easy
This is a really fun, immersive open world game. Enjoying it a lot.
So... Do you guys thi there'll be more upgrades to the game than just the DLC on the 15th?
I checked today and the ray tracing bug that we commented here some time ago is fixed now but I don't see it mentioned in any of the minor patches we have had since.
nah i think its abandonware after that
DLC not available yet, plus no word on social media about it since the announcement... Makes me wonder for a last minute delay.
DLC out, but what I really wanted was the patch notes. Haha. Just to check if the franchise is really that abandoned.
"you can now free-fire Kay's blaster while riding your speeder. Additionally, to create a smoother combat experience, you can now seamlessly switch between two-handed weapons and Kay's blaster. The Trailblazer customization has also been enhanced, with new passive systems to equip which offer a variety of gameplay effects, giving you more ways to fine-tune your strategy during space missions."
Lovely.
I was about to comment on that. I messed with those settings a whole lot of time and I can tell they're much improved. RT Specular Reflections and RT Specular Reflections Resolution used to become blurry beyond Ultra, as if the denoiser could not keep up with so many RT effects. Now no matter how much I crank it up, no more blurriness in motion.
Bet many remember how much this crystal ball used to flicker. Perfectly stable now.
I think they also changed some HDR settings because I cannot get the calibration images to crush no matter the setting and if I remember correctly just a slight move to the lower end made the "barely visible" image disappear.
Sorry, @rapid cobalt, but I had to ping you. Haha. Do you mind telling me what this brightness setting would be changing so I can learn what to look for in the future? Maybe guess the paperwhite too.
should all basically be the same as Avatar, so the default brightness (20 in Avatar and 0 in Outlaws) is seemingly somewhere around 200 - 220 diffuse (paper) white
So I can kind of change it at will if I'm aiming for a 180ish paperwhite?
But I mean. Wtf. Won't go crazy over 20 nits. Haha. I'll leave it at default and BFF at 200 and enjoy.
check my avatar analysis, they are pretty much the same
both game are 220 nits paper white by default
180 nits is probably -2
Damn I always wanted to do a playthrough with no cinematic lens effect, but I really grew fond on how good those lens simulate the Star War atmosphere.
Although without them you uncover a whole new dimension of detail. Haha.
Nothing should've changed with the HDR at least
Not since the previous dlc anyways
oh nice gotta check out the DLC
This game is a masterpiece though.
The light on the skin and armor... How the burnt from the shots is different depending on the material they hit...
Reds seem per channel
I didn't get too far on my initial playthrough, so I'm keen to start over again now after all of these patches
I quite like the lens effects here but I get why some people would be really happy that they added the toggle
probably ACES
This term is like HDR lvl. 3. I'm still on lvl. 0.4 haha.
It was a Windows snip capture of a .png while on HDR so definitely not accurate. Haha.
it's probably customized, i thought it was described as a starwars tonemapper?
I have the shader. I think I saw ap1 so I assumed aces but I didn’t look closely
From what I recall it should be some aces flavor with extras
Most of the starwars stuff lies in things like lens effects and the actual grade
You shouldn't have to worry about that with future games at least lol
Yeah, looks per-channel
is Outlaws any good of a game?
Very decent gameplay loop, a nice story and a masterpiece in both visuals and worldbuilding.
I dunno where the hell i read "star wars tonemapper" from 🤔
there was some article about visual consistency in starwars
Its okay! It kept me entertained for 50-60 hours
its not a good open world game but its fine as an adventure game
and I need to install it again for the 2nd DLC which I hope is longer than two hours (which was the length of the first DLC)
Whats the HDR like in it?
gamma mismatch
This area makes me really wonder if the devs got straight up inspired in Berghain. Haha.
I might pick this up later, another gaming forum I frequent had generally good things to say about it. Though a few said its a bit repetitive.
the card game in it is really fun, although way too easy to cheese it
With fully maxed out settings, 4K DLSS Balanced, this game runs beautifully with 3x FG
Latency stays in the 40s to hit my 140 cap
Equivalent in Alan Wake 2 for example has a latency of 60ms, which feels notably heavier
I'm having such a great time playing again with all cranked up to unlocked max settings 4K DLSS Q and X3 MFG hitting 116 reflex cap constantly and input lag around 40/50 ms.
the game really is a blast tbh
i nee dto play both DLC still but i really hate sabacc
Guess that's the magic of Reflex. First time I tried MFG was with Cyberpunk and for some reason Reflex was not properly working and the input lag was terrible. But tried Outlaws and it was much snappier, so somthing was off. Then I learned about forcing V-Sync along FG and all that stuff. Cyberpunk working great now with MFG as well.
If I were you I would drop DLSS to Balanced and see if you can hit your 116 cap with X2?
My 140 cap would need Performance, or some setting reduction
In tempted to try it tomorrow as ideally I like latency sub-40
Maxed out it looks gorgeous though
I'd rather have a bit more latency but a crispier image. I play too close to a 55" screen haha. I thought MFG would be full of artifacts and such but honestly I cannot spot more than the usual you see with X2.
Yeah MFG has been positive for me too.
I can't see the diff between Balanced and Quality with transformer model, on a 55inch TV
But maybe my eyes are rubbish!
transformer model clears up a lot of problems with losing resolution while creating new problems
that
honestly, probably can be remedied overtime comparably to CNN
afterall, it is still beta
i'm hoping they can work out any of the performance loss, even if 5% isn't that much. and, really. small price to pay for image quality
@fringe depot have you played around with the "Outlaw" settings much yet? The ones locked behind a launch parameter. I've found that I can pretty much max those out, including RTXDI, whilst still hitting my 144hz cap with 3X MFG.
Only ones I knocked back to ultra are the two ray tracing settings, which pegged my GPU to max and so introduced a touch of extra latency. Without those maxed, I retain 30ms-48ms latency window.
Think I'm gonna play the rest of the game like this. Hopefully I can finally stop tinkering!
I've tinkered so much with settings in this game... HAHA. So I'm playing with it maxed out at 4K DLSS Q MFG X3 and very rarely dip below 116 FPS reflex cap. Now: Ray Traced Specular Reflections and Ray Traced Specular Reflections Resolution on Max are the settings that really hit performance if you combine both. The visual improvement is very small and I was not able to discern which one did exactly what.
Yep, those are the 2 I dropped back
I also noticed that using SK, even without a frame limiter, seemed to add like 10ms latency when using 3x MFG. I need to do more testing around that though
I love the game though. Yesterday I spent a couple of hours just absorbed in the world, doing random contracts, getting to grips with ship combat etc. My little girl was watching me play, we had such a good time
Hugely underrated
I tested briefly with SK to see if I could get better latency, but it got me even lower performance. Haha...
Game is so beatiful. It's a game that get me to immerse so much and relax at the same time. I'm just at peace walking around, doing contracts, trying to play it in a more relaxed and RP way. Like... I've never used fast travel. Haha.
In fact... I did not even finish the game or the DLCs because I tinkered with it alot when it launched, then I waited a bit and bought on Steam, then whatever and now I'm playing on my new computer with all the DLCs and story ahead from the beginning and all maxed out... Wow!
Out of interest, have you experienced any crashes to desktop? It's definitely my GPU crashing as iCUE loses my GPU temp readings, and my undervolt reverts to stock. That undervolt has been rock steady in all games until now (it's only minor) but it could be that ...or it could be X3 MFG being unstable as this is the first time I've really used it and I wouldn't be surprised if it's still buggy
My guess is MFG is the cause, as the crashes have been when transitioning to a menu, or a cut scene, which I think disables MFG
If I do, I think it's because my GPU undervolt. I used to CTD a lot before but now I'm using 23H2 because it was constantly crashing when I updated to 24H2. It was supposed to be fixed, but not for me haha.
Also the game turns FG off for some cutscenes and interactions like shops, landscape viewing points, reading datapads, playing Sabacc... Is when those happen that sometimes I've experienced crashes.
Like the moment it has to re engage FG mostly I'd say.
@sterile cliff any hdr improvements you recommend for this game?
just lilium black floor fix reshade shader

set it to ~203 if using default game brightness
should look good
sounds good thanks
closer to 220
