if you want to change the HDR mod settings you do need reshade.

#

the command should be sys_MaxFPS

#

BTW

#

at least that's what I have in my modded game

pliant wigeon
paper tree
#

according to the kdc.log file they load OK like that

pliant wigeon
paper tree
#

create blank file, call it autoexec.cfg, open it with notepad++ or whatever text editor you use and put all of the command you would like to use on that file. then save. after that go on steam, and right click on the game, proprieties, here it should say launch option and set -devmode. close and open the game

#

for example I put all of these in mine. at the start of the game they will be loaded automatically

pliant wigeon
#

Oh, nice!

#

Those improve visual quality I guess. How much fps cost? Might copy them 😛

paper tree
# pliant wigeon Those improve visual quality I guess. How much fps cost? Might copy them 😛
  • The Illumination stuff it improves the base game low quality illumination. no idea about the FPS cost but it's not high.
  • the Textures stuff basically increases the game mipmap LOD value to prevent the game from constantly reloading the mipmaps from the disk. this costs around2-4 fps.
  • the combat setting I wouldn't copy. those are based on some mods I use.
  • the Basic teaks I don't remember what they do. Been too long since I put them there.
  • Sys dependent same as the basic tweaks. Like I know what they do but I don't remember why I put them.
  • The random ones are literally random. Have cursor while aiming with the bow, save whenever you want (hate having to use the saviour schnapps), FOV adjustment, max fps (this unlocks the cutscene fps too. they ar elocked to 30 fps in the vanilla game), no motion blur (fuck motion blur). I think the horse_cameracentering one if to prevent the camera going all over the place while horse riding
#

that0s about it

#

here are a bunch of settings that the game read. no idea what most of them do specifically but I remember the shadow stuff were brutal. like massive FPS decrease.

pliant wigeon
#

Thanks a lot for the info!!!

#

I actually have this in my launch parameters. Didn´t remember

paper tree
pliant wigeon
paper tree
pliant wigeon

#

but without -devmode you can't use the console command

#

if you want to type them

pliant wigeon
#

Ohhh I see

#

Well i actually don´t need to type them ingame at all honestly

#

Just load them from the config file

#

I could put your settings in the user.cfg file, right?

paper tree
#

everytime you launch the game it creates a kdc.log file inside the game folder. open that and see if those commands gets loaded

paper tree
pliant wigeon
paper tree
#

"+exec user.cfg"

pliant wigeon
#

Ohhh ok, done

paper tree
#

try now

pliant wigeon
#

Minus the heavy performance settings

#

Yeah just tried them and solid 60fps with noticeable quality increase

#

Nice!

#

I still get the Sysmax error in the menu tho

#

Once ingame tho it seems to be working

paper tree
pliant wigeon
#

Im playing in a 60hz TV

paper tree
#

oh lol

pliant wigeon
#

Yeah need to get a new one lol. This one has great HDR but only 60hz at 4K

#

I don´t have much of an issue with that tho. 60 is more than fine to me

meh it's fine.

oh jxr cringebro

#

I got it working, but the hdr analysis shader thing only shows it maxxing out at around 400

#

actually no, I think it's working right

#

i just had to look at the sun

#

i feel like the sun in this game inherently doesn't look like a sun

#

i do have max nits set to 3000 (hisense u8n)

#

It seems right, but I'm new to this and I'm just not quite sure

vivid marlin
#

If the sun pushes peak it should be good

#

Torches, reflections on armors and body waters get very bright too

night elbow
#

thank you ^^

#

sun does push peak

night elbow
#

This seems to make interiors darker which is lovely, I felt like kcd was washed out quite a bit in light and dark areas in sdr

#

This mod makes it f feel like a modern game lol

#

Thank you

vivid marlin
#

Yeah the game has awful gamma, even forests at night look quite washed out

night elbow
#

also hdr seems to fix the awful sky banding

#

no matter what I tried I could not get the sky to not look terrible, but it looks great now

#

lovely!

night elbow
#

is there any fix for the sun looking blocky though?

vivid marlin

I think it's work in progress

night elbow

sand dove
night elbow
paper tree
#

I don't remember looking like this on my end. I'll check in about 50 minutes

night elbow
#

It just seems inherently broken

#

Can I remove the bloom entirely? I remember the sun looked weirdly square even on console

#

I'm really hoping kcd2 uh, looks better

sand dove
paper tree
#

I see

night elbow
#

Oh! Okay

#

Yay

sand dove
#

I already have it fixed but there is a lot more related to the sun and bloom that needs fixing. And I have not found a good solution yet

night elbow
#

does the game look bad if you remove all bloom?

#

Yeah what the hell

#

@sand dove r_hdrbloom=0 makes the sun not look awful

#

But I don't know how else it affects the game

#

I mean I also turned on beams and volumetric fog

#

Without bloom there's a weird slightly green outline but

#

Idk

#

I suppose I can't be so picky

night elbow
#

Ah

night elbow
#

I haven't seen any issues with turning bloom off

night elbow
night elbow

I've played the game once years ago. But it seriously didn't let me finish the game because I didn't do a dlc quest so I gave up

Because luma mods are more indepth and hook into specific memory values in the .exe and iirc it changes depending on the build for each launcher aswell as version of the game

#

That's why starfield luma breaks sometimes with games updates

now I'm curious see if the mod works if you use the steam .exe, remove the steam drm, put it in the gog version

Hey, I’ve set up this mod for KCD1 on steam deck, and everything works great except that after exiting the game and re-launching I need to reapply the mod for HDR to trigger and start working.

This is on Linux, SteamOS, have added the command DXVK_HDR=1 but I still have to reinstall the mod every time I launch the game.

Steam version, btw.

#

Just to add, I only need to copy and paste the .pak files in the engine folder for the mod to start working again. The dll and .asi files don’t need any tinkering with

vivid marlin
#

like the shader cache

#

i don't have a deck so I'm not sure how it works

placid locust
#

Guys one question, I use hdr 400 tb on my monitor and with the reshade installed it only gives the option for peak brightness and brightness multiplier.

My issue is that the regular game brightness is so high even when setting it to the lowest multiplier which is 0.5 that the highlights doesn’t even pop at all lol, is there a way to lower the regular game brightness even more? I looked for the config.ini file but couldn’t find anything, sorry if the solution is obvious but I’m fairly new to all this modding for hdr

wheat sonnet
#

Will there be any chance for GOG version support in the future? 🙏

wheat sonnet
# cinder bridge doubt

damn it... didn't know that executables can have such a difference. I guess no HDR for those of us who prefer DRM-free gaming/ownership :/

vivid marlin
#

Except the sun and torches

#

And these disappear at a distance lol

#

You're fairly limited with 400 nits in details sadly

placid locust
placid locust

placid locust
wheat sonnet
cinder bridge
wheat sonnet
# cinder bridge if you already bought the game once, I wouldn't worry too much

I generally buy games twice if I already bought or received a game on Steam (or other DRM'd store) in a bundle or as a freebie, like it and want a DRM-free copy for archiving, then I'll pick up a GOG version. But definitely not the other way around (why would I want to pay extra to get a DRM-locked copy). Just bummed out about the mod, but not gonna get out of my way to pay for another copy. I'll have to get away with ITM or something.

cinder bridge
wheat sonnet
#

maybe some devs do that "pre-cracking" for ease, but they usually maintain a separate branch/build, especially if the game involves more than 1 DRM method, online activations and so on, since GOG's rules stipulate that no mandatory logins/accounts/DRM be present in the builds. If a game has Steam Workshop integration - that's another reason for a separate build for GOG. That sorta stuff.

#

and then obviously the other benefit of GOG is the premade installers that you don't get with Steam.
When a game on Steam is installed - it runs a script to check for and install prerequisites - your VC reidstributables and any extras the game may need, create file paths and associations. If you just zip up the finished steam game (let's say one of the games on there that doesn't actually have DRM) - you may run into issues running that game on a fresh system and not necessarily know why.
With a GOG installer - the prerequisites are installed and all the paths created by the installer, so it's a far more graceful way to preserve a game

#

So it's just my preference to buy on GOG where possible. I've run into issues with online DRM or steam randomly logging me out even on their own damn device (Steam Deck) - luckily it never happened on a plane, but it did once happen on a train when I had only a patchy cellular connection, so I don't consider DRM to be a good thing at all, at least not for consumers who paid money for the game. The pirates have no DRM anyway, so they don't run into authentication or offline play issues, sometimes the performance even improves when CPU cycles aren't wasted on some anti-tamper garbage (assuming proper removal, rather than a client-side DRM server spoof). It just feels like an insult to paying customers, since they're the only ones truly fucked by DRM, at the end of the day.

i disagree here, game with steam workshop on GOG can still download mods from steam workshop

#

if you own steam/gog version

#

Even if the game is launched without a launcher, heroic/galaxy, if Steam is open, the mods you subscribe to will be downloaded when the game launches chillGuy

vivid marlin
#

@placid locust you cna just ask here lol

#

people on reddit wouldn't know much about the mod

#

@sand dove so W1cH0 has 400 nits peak on the mod but he says some elements are 1000 nits with your analyzer

#

i'm not sure why

#

you could provide screenshots W1

placid locust
vivid marlin

your display would hardclip anything above 450 anyways

placid locust
#

@sand dove hey! So I’m just curious, I have set my monitor to true black 400 and the mod settings with 400 nits peak brightness, I was using your tool to analyze the peaks and general brightness of the game with the mod and noticed that during certain parts of the game like during dialogue options it was showing nits up to 1,000 nits

Is my display actually showing 1000 nits in those areas or is it just the tool showing what it should be displaying? During normal gameplay the peaks stay at 400 nits as configured

There you go, the first one is during gameplay, peaks start at or below the 400 nit mark but when there is dialogue or cutscenes it goes way up, I couldn’t replicate the 800-1000 nit peaks because the part where that happened was a few days ago and my save file was replaced with newer ones

Upgraded rendering backend using modern graphical APIs

CryEngine heavily modified with many improvements and optimizations tailored for the PS5 and Xbox Series hardware

Improved and optimized multithreading to better utilize all available cores

Improved and optimized asset streaming to reduce stutters and pop-ins

Reworked culling to reduce amount of unnecessary draw calls

The HDR mod still works with the latest version if you replace WHGame.dll in bin\win64 with the pre February update 1.9.6 version. You do not need to replace anything else beyond the mod files themselves. The main menu logic is broken on the initial load, but pressing Esc brings it up.

#

This also lets you acces your save files again if the steam depot method locked you out of them. That said, I would only do this if you are desparate and fully understand the risk that it could permanently corrupt your saves.

I was able to start a new game and play all the way to Pribyslavitz without any major issues. The only oddity was the ambient music behaving strangely, but I went into settings and set the music volume to zero, which removed it. Prerendered and in engine cutscenes still play music and with the correct behavior, even if you set music volume to zero. I cannot guarantee there are no other problems, but I am planning to finish all quests and DLC and will report back if I run into any bugs.

Kcd under development for a full luma mod?

#

Dlss would be nice

But we'd need coordinate to make liliums work compatible with Luma Framework.

#

I'd love to do it.

r_AntialiasingTAAPattern does work, we have jitters!
May do it than.

Welp, not only the update broke the Luma HDR, it also broke DXVK. The game just won't start with it 🙁 It's not a big deal, but it did help with performance a bit.

Just got a tandem OLED monitor and was excited to try this game in HDR as it already looked good on my IPS and I was loving the gameplay too.

Welp, I guess SDR it is till the mod is fixed.

Any ideas on whether RTX HDR works good for this? I might try it post work today, but given I have no experience of HDR outside of movies, don't know what to expect.

Implemented DLSS, but one part of it will need rework, and motion vectors may be improved.
I recommend setting r_AntialiasingTAAPattern to 4 via console or config. The 4 pattern (6 in Prey) is almost same as the one in Dishonored 2, 1 jitter is different.

Another option is downgrading the game in the meantime but that might not work depending on your save file

Optimized DLSS. r_AntialiasingTAAPattern 4 is now required to be set via console or config files for DLSS to work properly.
Needs more testing.

I always prefer to be at the last update, i'm using a tweaked SK "autohdr" for now 😅 Better than nothing.
