#▫️Final Fantasy XVI

Yea, I know. It always annoys me because I can never find them ha
Oh really? No ReBar for this game?
This is what I did so I could keep it enabled and not crashing.
There are reports all over the place with similar full system freezes on other games and even while not in games with the newest drivers. So I don't trust them yet. The hotfix only specifically calls out the FF16 crash
yeah that hotfix basically disables the rebar of ffxvi for you
But you mean the performance is worse with ReBar on?
yeah, much worse cpu performance
at least on an intel cpu
I have it on but with the setting I posted from Steam forums and it's not crashing anymore.
drivers scary
Omg I couldn’t figure out what’s causing that system freeze while alt+f4 which needs a reboot, nVidia never lets us down 😂
haha
that driver is awful
i dont freeze though
but the performance degradation is shocking
this is what i got
35% performance loss
This is after hotfix?
before
the hotfix is basically turning off the rebar for you
both my performance degradation and that freezing when alt+f4 are caused by rebar
oh okay
I assume going into NVPI and turning off rebar will have the same result
I honestly doubt rebar being on delivering a 35 percent performance increase. Never seen that happening in any good benchmarks from reputable sources. Sure you're not mistaken and haven't taken other variables into account?
He's saying rebar on hurt performance
I think you have it backwards
Unless i misread
But the new drivers are cursed so might be more going on
it is, i posted that above
rebar is bugged for ffxvi
it can even lead to system freeze
Confirmed with this one
Well, ok, but still highly doubt it can increase performance so much with it enabled
it reduce
not increase
lol
it is bugged that reduces my performance
not increase
and the hotfix driver turns that off by default
solved my performance problem and the system freeze problem
and i turned off the rebar manually on the problematic driver, solved my problem too
so it is the rebar issue
I still don't trust the driver
I'll wait for people to beta test the next one lol
Why not?
Because it gave me full system lockups that required hard reboots, which resulted in the bios resetting. Widespread issue.
if it can cause system instability and hard freezes then it's not safe to use imo
there are multiple reports of various issues with the new driver
Yes, and not only in FF16
unofficial list of problems: https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/1idme1q/comment/ma04n73/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
the comment is updated regularly
Weird, even after ddu?
yes
the driver/release was rushed and Nvidia/AIB partners had no time to test, it's even worse if you own a 50 series card
the next drivers update will hopefully fix most of the issues
I didn't notice any performance degradation with ReBar on or off with the new drivers but the system lockup happened until a changed a something setting on NVPI that was not ReBar.
So if anybody want to keep ReBar on with the new drivers it's viable.
depends on your PC and maybe other factors we don't know
I don't think that we need/should use rebar if Nvidia actually disabled it with a hotfix
Dude I can't take this game sometimes
The fucking slogs in between main storyline advancements
like you sneak into the crystalline dominion to significantly further the plot.....but then.....OMG GUET'Z TRAVEL PASS WAS STOLEN BY A KID. LET'S SPEND 2 FUCKING HOURS DOING THIS BORING ASS SIDE PLOT TO KILL THE EVIL BANDITS WHO ARE MAKING THE KIDS STEAL PASSES. ISN'T CLIVE SUCH A GOOD GUY???
This game should have been like 1/3 the length
Also I ended up going back to d65. In some areas D93 looked too blue but perhaps I just needed to get used to the color temp. Idk. I just put it back until we get more info on whether it's likely or not that it was meant for d93
and lastly, dlss 310.2.0 looks pretty damn good in this game. not using frame gen because frame gen causes terrible ghosting
oh yea that quest.... xD

Makes sense!
Try the order version of FG but the new upscaler.
Did the old version not have issues?
Also is this game worth finishing? I'm in the Crystalline dominion. Idk how much I have left.
I just can't take the filler missions. They drive me nuts
Yea
IMO at least
But then again I’m a huge FF fan
😂
The last one i played before this one was ff10
So I usually finish them even if they’re not super good
One of my favorites
The sequel.. not so much lol
FfX-2
I think I only played a little bit of the sequel
Don’t stop before reaching bahamut imo
It seems to be a pattern with the recent FF games: they start strong, then they hit a massive slump after the first third of the game, and then they pick up again in the last third.
I think the game just has pacing whiplash by being an action game with a Final Fantasy Tactics type story lol.
And even as a major fan of the FFT type story I felt the whiplash
That too
If the game was more like FFT or FFXII the story moments inbetween wouldn't feel so jarring.
ff14 is reverse xD
Denuvo removed
Performance still sucks tho
I even trying updating DS to the latest version, which allegedly fixes the GPU utilization spikes in MHW, but no bueno
Today?
I'm playing through the game atm
SK helped to smooth out my framegraph, I had to disable all controller inputs (don't use one) to solve some disgusting stuttering with Eikon Overhaul mod
70% of the time I am at a locked 120 (with FG) at ultra 4K 4090 but there are areas where I can drop
it should, based on the console performance
MHWs runs at 720p 60 fps most of the time on ps5
and FFXVI also runs at 720p but sub 40 fps on ps5
RIP
But I can say that on my setup with DLSS transformer the game looks berry nice
Cloth textures are immaculate
well FFXVI does look good most of the time
Lack of GI in interior is a bit grating especially when going from Cyberpunk
Has that raster grey/blue look
wilds is something
i dont have complaints about the visual quality of ffxvi
but it is just way more demanding than it should be
it is just ps4 era technology tbh
nothing special
Yeah but it has the same issue as monhunt on PC where the GPU utilization goes thought the roof as soon as you move the camera
Which feels like a bug to me
or some engine quirk
Essentially any open area
runs fine most of the time on my pc tbh
You have 4090 lol
The game doesn't really stutter
but on 3080 I can't get stable 60fps without dropping the internal resolution to like 480p
yeah
At least going by the benchmark, mohunt runs better for me lmao
yeah
mhws dlss quality = ffxvi dlss performance
at least on my pc
but i would argue that ffxvi looks significantly better than mhws
It does
But I don't think it looks good enough to justify the performance
Both of them really
yeah
nothing special in ffxvi
well jedi survivor does look good enough to justify the performance IF YOU ONLY LOOK AT THE FPS NUMBER
I don't think JS looks that great either
the fps number is not that bad
i got 80-90 fps on my previous 3080ti
dlss quality mode with rt on
what output res
I think the shadows are kinda something new
4k
4k?
sry i read the wrong post
Yea there are frame drops from spinning the camera quickly
overall runs well on a 4080 super at 1440p with dynamic res on
FG in FF16 causes horrible ghosting
i turned it off
locked to 60
I'm using DLSS 310.2 as well and it looks really good
FG just causes obvious ghosting for me
1440p with ultra performance dlss
maybe try 1080p output idk
Oh wow. Did not realize. It was 25 GB for me though.
Graphics not displaying properly on certain screens.
Textual errors in select languages.
🤨
I never had any of those issues lol
Bahamut fight
When ||Clive and Joshua combined|| the music sent me into the stratosphere
it is glorious
I've been putting off playing this game since the demo
but goddamn Yoshi P baked
how do you consecutively build up each eikon battle and make it better every time
Wait Soken composed the music
Chad
Whilst fighting cancer
Shadowbringers Emet's fight was the last time I felt this much hype in a game and no surprise Soken composed that
The Eikon fights are like the only good parts of this game lol
I think i'm close to the bahamut fight
Yea just got past the bahamut fight. That was pretty awesome. I wish the entire game was fun like this
This game is like 75% boring slog and 25% actual story development/fun battles
No I think you're pretty early, if it's the one i'm thinking of
I could be wrong
I play the game like 2 hours every month
so maybe it was close and it felt long because of that
I've finished up with the DLC and all the side content, will do the final boss today
Will then reflect back on the game as a whole. My future wish is that Creative Studio III learns from FFXVI (it being their first SP game and all) and address much of the criticism in a future title
Keep the momentum of the story, characters, VAs, music and especially boss fights
If they wanna do it like this it shouldn't be DMC lmao
Join forces with Creative Business Unit I in expanding the RPG elements and making the side content better
It has the story pacing of a tactics game
I'm fine with anything
I love tatics games but even i found it jarring
Like it's legit my favorite genre but boy is that odd for a DMC style game
But my god, something with all the good parts of FFXVI with better RPG mechanics, party composition and more in depth gameplay would be a behemoth of a FF game
Welp going to have to wait a decade now for FFXVII to come out
Any leaks? Who's making it
Has there been a space opera style FF game?
Wonder how well a Dunesque setting would do
One was concepted at one point apparently
It's all hands on deck for 14 and Remake 3 afaik
17 probably won't be out until few years after remake
16 and rebirth kinda canibalised each other
That reminds me, I will probably return back to 14 after I complete this
Started a second playthrough last year on a new toon when I discovered RenoDX and this server but took a break after Heavensward
I haven't played through Endwaker or Dawntrail
I need to see for myself if Dawntrail is as bad as the community makes it out to be
If it is then... They'll need to do something major for the next expansion
On second thought, how is VII? I have to admit I have never played it. To those that I've played both XVI and the remakes or are in general FF fans how will my experience compare
I hope the games doesn't fall into the 'demake' category
Imo Remake > XVI > Rebirth
OG VII is a good game and important one for the medium in general, it's basically video game cannon and it's definetly worth playing today, if for nothing else to just have an opinion on it
VII is however the start of Kitase / Nomura / Nojima branch of FF, and those are very diffrent from the Sakaguchi directed games
XVI has much more in common with the latter than the former
If you like FFXVI plot wise you'll like the tactics games and FFXII
FFXII has that "society dealing with magic and gods concept" but it's one of the most indepth RPGs. And the PC version is solid.
Warring empires/religions and all that jazz, FFXVI takes after any game with ivalice in it.
I hope they're really doing a remaster of FFT
There's been rumors but no announcement
VII is very different from XVI but the battle system in remake and rebirth is the best of any FF game imo.
For me overall i like FFVII remake and rebirth over FFXVI
Thanks for the insight both of you
Good thing FF is an anthology
Imagine having to play the previous 15 games to know what the hell is going on in the 16th installment
One Piece tier of 'the show gets good 600 episodes in'
I prefer darker tone settings preferably with politics. Probably why I was able to attach so well with 16
Yeah you'd love Tactics (specifically the WotL version) and FFXII then.
Tho FYI they're a lot less bombastic than FFXVI can be
But their tone and pace makes sense for their gameplay lol
Yakuza/LaD is getting there, lol
True lmao
how many cannon entries as of now? 10 or more?
actually 16 that would be considered all in the same world
wait maybe 15
YakuzaXVI
either way
Right I'm off to contemplate now for a week like I did after I finished Witcher 3
Will be interesting to revisit the game many years from now to see how well it ages and how my opinion changes
Then I play something else
Cause even Judgement is in the yakuza world, and Kurohyo which never got a western release
Yeah but only counting games that are relevant to the main storyline
I mean judgement has intersected events in the main games 🤔
huh
I don't think Kurohyo has tho
I mean at the very least there were judgement characters in like a dragon, so it's at least somewhat relevant if you wanna know who those people are
🤔 I think also gaiden too
Kiryu fights Kaitou and partners with him for a bit, and I think in like a dragon they help with some of the plot
Ah right it was in infinite wealth they showed up
Only for a bit tho
Okay, so excluding cameos and minor bits
We have main 8, the man who erased his name and pirate yakuza
What else
Br4p dont watch this, I'd rather you experience this first hand in the DLC.
When I first saw this I was floating
Yeah that shit was sick
about it really.
IMO tho it's clear they wanna involve judgement characters more in the mainline games 😛
Probably cause the judgement team seems to be making mainline games now I think
The directors of infinite wealth both come from Judgement and the previous like a dragon title
I'm sure there's more overlap too since I think the old leads left iirc
The side quests are terrible in this game. They just add more boring slog
I'm sure there's some good ones but the ones i played weren't fun
I liked them but they don't fit the game lmao
Yea they didn't need to be there
The fit the story and elevate it a lot imo, but gameplay wise they're so low key
To go from societal struggles to the insane shit in the eikon battles is just too much whiplash
Yea exactly
You're spending 3 hours helping the big dude get his crossing pass back, then you're like a giant monster fighting titans
RPGs be like
You have 3 days to live because the evil bad guys has casted a world wide spell
if it was like FFXII or tactics this stuff would fit in nicely, but as DMC it's just jarring
proceeds to do every side mission imaginable
Do you guys use mods for FF7 remake and rebirth? Besides reno
Only towards the end do the side quests help to better flush out certain characters, Tarja, Dorys, Jill especially.
Theyre still the same go from a to b and kill x enemies
Jill's final side quest I enjoyed only because of the cutscene
I don't think primogenesis set a time limit, it was more to further incite panic
ah yeah
You have a worm in your head
i suppose canonically everything takes place over a few days
oh lmao
but that sort of ruins character development for me
Jill and Clive relationship feels nature because its spaced over 18 years
meanwhile in most RPGs you meet a random stranger and 2 days later you have max affinity and banging
true lmao
Takes me out but I understand that its a game
You have Keanu Reeves in your brain, you got around the week to live, anyway would you mind find my missing cabs? kthxbye
thanks you for giving 2077 as another example
the ticking clock plots and open world games don't gel really
or games with the bunch of side content really
mostly cosmetic ones, like always showing default weapons in remake
And less grunting mod
load up on all the coomer mods
Yup
Go full brain rot
I saw all these gameplay changes mods but it was hard to understand what they did without playing the game first
so if vanilla is good enough then i'll just do vanilla
like full reworks of the upgrade mechanics or abilities or something
Yeah just do vanilla it's a very balanced game
sounds good to me
I should try replaying FF7 remake
i had started it a while ago but only got like 2 hours in
and then for wahtever reason I got overwhelmed by the mods and stopped playing
Pretty sure i asked this already so apologies, but what's the difference between snapshot and feb links?
I must be blind, where is the whitepoint shader for reshade?
are you guys pleased with how FF16 looks?
im using it without any mods or anytihng lik ethat.
its the best looking game made by japanese developers imo
PBR and texture work is immaculate
In game cutscenes quality is ridiculous, clothing textures have intricate details and one for the few games I've played where present and in the future I don't see the need of higher res textures
HDR just works and looks good
Game loads up quickly thanks to direct storage
The starting forest area shows off a ton of foliage detail very well, Mysidia (Rising Tides DLC) has beautiful bloom and weather
Fallen ruins and the mother crystals have great design direction and are my highlights
Yeah, one thing i think everyone can agree on with 16 is that it's visually stunning

Perhaps it's just my mediocre display then.
Reduce the brightness to - 2 or - 3
I ran with -5 brightness
I used -2
No wait I'm getting confused
I ran whatever the lowest brightness setting is in FFXVI
Isn't the default 5
So I ran with 0
Also use SK to force AF 16x
the slider goes from 0 to 10, with 5 being the default
KoKlusz what are you referring to in that case?
5 is the default yeah
This one, I can't find the github and it's not accessible via reshade install
Or did you use something else for your D65 / D95 comparisons?
try out what?
There has been a few discussions about this
D93 Vs D65 whitepoint
Former is bluer, latter is more yellow
RenoDX allows you to choose, if the dev has implemented it, otherwise you'll want to use the FourTwentyColorSpace shader above
Cheers
I think the ultimate concensus was that it's extremely unlikely that it's meant to be d93
but not sure it was determined 100%
I don't think we can
So it's really just whatever looks better to you
D65 is the safer assumption of intent but if you really want to try D93 then no one is stopping you
You actually get automatically banned from all HDR discord servers if you use d93
jk
Idk there are definitely some areas of FF16 where I'm like "yea this absolutely looks more correct in d93." Then there are others where I'm not so sure
it has a different art style from other FF games
Correct way to play and no one can prove me wrong is
Colorful.fx with saturation at 100
&
FakeHDR.fx with super crushed contrast
Good ol' days
its more realistic
I cringe but that was my beginning
lolol
I'm not sure if it looks better than FF7 remake tho
i am going to start ff7 remake soon so we'll see
I think it's a good looking game but i'm not super impressed with anything in particular. It just looks really nice
I haven’t played 16, but it seems more consistent than ff7 remake
Remake was all over the place
Like the city parts of ff7 were really nice looking
But other parts could look really bad
yea that sounds about right
That's correct, I misremembered
What I meant is that you should drop it to the value 2 or 3
I used 3 and I like it
I think dropping the brightness adds more saturation, but 3 on the slider is good. I don't find it too saturated
A calibrated Sony GDM-FW900 was my beginning 😩 everything looked like shit after that
imaging playing on the best screen as a kid, but then switching to horrible LCD panels
I was very confused back then, "LCD should look better wtf" haha
the FW900 was a ~1440p@80hz screen with OLED picture/motion quality back in 2000 lol
dayum
Im getting ton of trailing and weird brightness changes and just.. well you can see how bad it looks.
any ideas? on dlss3, its a bit better without DLSS maybe but idk i just went through dlss none legacy and fsr3 and its all relatively the same
in some areas of th e map its more noticable than others.
looks like an issue with volumetric clouds, volumetirc clouds are just hard lol
Its not the cloud, its the trailing and the weird.. idk how to say it on the sisdes.
i mean it might only be doing that when volumetric clouds are behind
Might be less prevalent when it's sunny
I dont think thats it even looking down the trialing is quite rough.. the game feels like it has a lot of graphical glitches fro me in general.
FG? Motion vectors appear to be borked specifically on characters. I dont have the edge ghosting you're having, looks like vignette?
You using FFXVI Fix and SK?
DLSS Transformer?
No FG, DLSS transformer but this scene looked kinda the same across all upscaling solutions I tried, maybe a bit different.
I'm using SK now, I didnt before however.
You turned off motion blur and vignette?
Yes.
it was included in SK
Then I dont know
vignette and other post process being setup incorrectly with FG was my guess for the first video
I only get ghosting with FG on and even then it isnt anywhere as noticeable as that first video, it certainly doesn't have the screen edge outline
Ok I'm testing it now in Rosaria
Just turned on vignette and I'm getting the same edge ghosting as in the first video
Are you using FG?
I noticed whilst I was playing that with FFXVI fix, I would need to go into the menu then settings to stop motion blur from applying
Even though I've disabled it in Fix
Same
you can also see it here on that lady and that edge
looks like serious case of temporal instability for whatever reason
That's SSR issue
Yep SSR
Parper try turning on and then off vignette and setting motion blur from and then back to zero
Can't you disable motion blur in the in game settings? I haven't noticed it being forced back on
Motion blur should be off with FG anyways but it still applies at the start of the game 🤷♂️
Just going into the menu (not changing anything) then pressing esc turns off motion blur
I don't use FG in ff6 but motion blur definitely never got triggered back on
In FFXIV I need to go into full screen then back into borderless for DLSS Q to apply on every game stsrt
It's all just a square enix thing
Lol yea
Weird i never had that. You see it get toggled back on in settings?
I only mentioned it because Parpar mentioned vignette being off yet I just tested it on my end and the visuals bugs from the first video only happen to me with vignette on
As such I'm guessing vignette isn't truly off
Could be
I haven't even finished this game yet. I just can't deal with the boring as shit parts in between main story missions
FFXIV would like to have a word
I didn't play 14. But I'm playing ff7 remake now and the pacing seems better than 16
Love the story in that game to bits but it perfectaly encapsulates CB3
High peaks in story and writing followed by your typically MMO fetch quest slop
Yep
I guess they're all like that to some degree. Ff16 is just like SO much of it
I wish i could have a bot play it for me in between main segments
Lol
I gues I might just be cursed lol
this is also annoying me rn
bc i wanted to revert the dlss overdrive
Just in case
the Nvidia app is cursed
Yea, not using it until they sunset Control Panel
I have a feeling that will be a while
I know this is a really old message, but I've been trying to get back into it because a friend of mine started playing it
and man its so boring
Yea I still haven't played it
I kinda stalled out on FF7 remake too
lol
I'm playing KCD2 now
Finished it with all the side quests and DLCs myself last week. It was not that much of a slog for me, although some side quest felt really bad written. The pacing is quite bad as well.
But Clive is a character to always be remembered.
Clive's VA is in Expedition 33 too 💪
