AFAIK most common checkpoints (At least for SDXL and related models) contain and need both CLIP_g and CLIP_l, and in comfyUI both encoders are loaded and used (wrapped into a single object, that's exposed via the CLIP output of your standard checkpoint-loading node).

Which is also how and why nodes like the dual- or triple-clip loader can have a single CLIP output.

Uhm, sure, I guess ... from what I understand clip_g is trained at a larger scale and is better at capturing high-level concepts and global semantics, but CLIP_l acts a a complementary ...
So you end up with a larger combined embedding with 2048 dims, instead of "only" the 1280 of clip_g.
So in practice you always use both, and the functionality of both, even if you don't have to know or think about it ;)

(I have no idea how this handles with other model families, like SD1.5 or earlier, or completely different things like SD3 or Flux or whatever, which also may have the t5-something on top)
