From my VERY basic skim it seems to to be the kinda thing that you'd have to know the code already to be useful?

All my code knowledge is HTML and CSS and a little java from back in highschool and one semester of collage before mental stuff and stopped going.

All that is web code and builds off each other. Does it actually help to know any of that (in terms of knowing some coding helps with learning other coding) even a little or is it like all just learning French to then learn Chinese or vise versa? (Doing it over again I'd never learn web code most unless to learn as a beginner code besides code that don't have use cases anymore or I think so, its at least one of the less useful.)

ngl 5 is very low for 8GB VRAM — you're barely using the GPU. The bottleneck is your 262K context size. The KV cache for that is massive. Try --ctx-size 8192 -ngl 25 and you'll see much better tok/s. Increase ngl until you hit VRAM limits. 262K context on 8GB is ambitious even with kv-offload.

Some OEM companies like ASUS and Dell do make their own GB10 units, which also use identically internal system as the NVIDIA one (the unified 128GB RAM, Grace CPU, integrated Blackwell GPU) but with their tweaked features and chassis designs. While DGX Spark system could be used to train "RVC voice models" at least, I've heard these units are known for model finetuning but that's what I heard. Quite rare for someone from this server to own one, as they mostly opt for bigger workstation PCs and online options.

Your new command is using a totally different setup than before.
With Q4_K_M + q8_0 KV cache + Flash Attention + ngl 25 + only 8k context, the VRAM footprint drops massively.
That’s why you’re seeing ~6 GB instead of the huge usage you had with 262k context and ngl 5.
If you want more speed, keep raising until VRAM gets close to full — that’s the real limiter.

alright, so...i am not sure if this is a complete "miss of the point" but i have what i think is a pretty good example of a subject that confuses the hell out of AI. i don't claim the subject itself is of any importance. it is only an old game. but it is the best and most consistent example i have seen by a wide margin. and there must be other such things that are much more important that could benefit from study.

with that said, if anyone cares, here is my example:

several AIs, but focusing mainly on the free version of gemini and the paid version of grok are having an absolutely terrible time discussing the old game "bard's tale 2." in particular, far worse than i think a human could do, although of course a human would need quite a bit of time.

the reasons are not hard to find. there were three games in the original bard's tale series: cleverly referred to as "bard's tale," "bard's tale 2," and "bard's tale 3." these were released between 1985 and 1988. there were pc and apple verisons of all of them, and i think commodore versions too, which were mostly the same but slightly different. then there was a spin-off in 2004, called again "bard's tale" which was entirely different. then there was a much later "bard's tale 4" released in 2018. a "remastered" version of the first three was also released, possibly twice (that is, i think with the 2004 game and again with the 2018 game).

moreover, the game has more complexity than you might imagine, such that, just for example, "warrior" type characters are possibly the strongest fighters up to about lvl 9, after which "monk" type characters supplant them until about lvl 15 (which in gameplay terms is a long time), but after that hunters become better despite having poor damage, because they can critically hit. so--any discussion of "what's better" has to keep this in mind.

so, regardless of how hard i prompt for "bard's tale 2 only, original version only, from 1986 only, NOT the later remake, NOT the later remaster, NOT other games in the franchise," and other similar caveats while prompting...AIs just can't seem to handle this. I constantly get references to places, items, spells, quests, that are clearly wrong (referring to other games), and of course it's worse when they are not quite so clearly wrong (but still probably wrong). it's so constant as to be almost laughable, and when you call the AI on it, it just says "oh, you are right, I was referring to bard's tale 3, or the remastered version, or whatever..." just can't make it stop.

so again, it's not that the subject is important...but it scares me to think anyone is doing anything actually important with AI if it can't make these distinctions.
