@finite silo I solved the 3 card case of 2 player liar's deck by hand. It probably would have been easier to do it with a computer, but I learned a lot intuitively about the strategy of the game by doing it by hand. The actual solution isn't very complicated, and my method basically amounted to using heuristics to guess approximately what the optimal strategy should look like and then writing a couple equations based on assumptions from those heuristics. Then once you have a set of strategies it's trivial to check if it is indeed a nash equilibrium.
With optimal strategy, the player who is required to place a card first wins 41% of the time.

It does help that the whole system only ever requires linear equations to solve

ya cant official MP on itch.io, the game was built using steam's networking API so it cant really work without it

all hope isn't lost though, BRML (Buckshot Roulette Mod Loader) does run MP on a third-party server, so if you can convince 3 other goofballs to download the modded client and connect to the server then you can play that way

you can even host your own server and have other people connect to it

A separate window appeared to open up on the bottom of the screen, covering half of my inventory
It showed a countdown to midnight and when it hit, fireworks were displayed for the new year (EST timezone if it matters)

Howdy I just got the game 2 days ago. I noticed that with the random start of the first rounds some players could be eliminated immediately without even getting to their turn. Leading to them leaving and not hanging for the follow TWO other rounds. I set up my rules to be more like the way the offline version is played a build up to more intense items and things. I would be interested for players to try this rule set and let me know how it worked for them, I feel it's a little to calm still and not chaotic enough which is the nature of the game, the random chaos of not knowing whats next {one of the big reasons I start with no items}. In my short time of playing I noticed some players seemed to hang around more after losing when it felt they had a fair fight and chance in the first place vs being out before even having a chance to go. Others may enjoy this very chaotic almost unfair start to the first rounds, that is fine I just think a build up is part of the three round process. I was trying to find ways to get players who were losing to want to stick around for games because they were truly fun, and go set their own rules and host lobbies as well. Glad to be here, great game!

update: steam fuckery; game breakpoints whenever a steam call is executed, seems to be related to the fact this is debug build

you cannot end the game as it just gets stuck playing this cutscene because text seems to be died to steam handling and the end logic is tied to the text

steam call causes a breakpoint in the thread its running on, and promptly doesn't let you end

(this is all speculative and guesses since debugging doesn't work on android, I'm just guessing based on errors and breakpoints thrown by the game running on desktop in debug mode with the same config)

ok I think I came up with a rule that can make a really interesting minigame for multiplayer

"no more than 2 players can target a single person at a time"
now what does that mean ?
"targeting" someone happens when you try to shoot them, no matter what the result is
after the first go around the table, everyone is always considered to be targeting the last person they shot
you can only change your target on your next shot

the main side effect to this is that on any given table round, there's gonna be at least one person that doesn't shoot you
the second side effect is that you can block someone from targeting a player by targeting that player, which might help you save an ally, but also gives them a greater change to target you next
the third side effect that I think is the most interesting one
is you can stop someone from targeting themselves, forcing them to waste a turn or items on blank shells
