What I've seen from my playthroughs is: no matter how big the total number of shells is, the two types must either have equal numbers or one more than the other, but never more than that

If it's an odd number, the shells are evenly split once again apart from the extra shell which can be either way

in double or nothing the dealer's a little smarter. shoots you if more lives than blanks, shoots himself if more blanks than lives, coin flips if equal. but still pretty dumb. he gained 10 iq points from -12

new dealer AI is more snowbally for both sides. If you already hit him with a bunch of early lives, he will probably shoot himself and make your lead even stronger. But if your early shots are blank he will most likely try to shoot you and make the situation even worse for you
