So one question I had was: It seems like Merge 5 bonus works for all the plants and animals and such when I merge more than 5 together, it just spits out the remainders, but when I’ve done the same with coins (which I ALWAYS merge 5 with coins) it seems like I’ve lost coins when I merge more than multiples of 5 (eg. when I merge 6 instead, I could have sworn I’ve lost the remainder coin)

Do you have any thoughts or info on this?

if you're smart about your purchases, it helps a lot

and there's a whole meta game about saving things for the upcoming events

but don't worry about that yet

biggest thing, right now save your gems to unlock land

and when you can finish the daily tasks every day, you'll earn a red box that has gems for you to merge

among other things

finishing the dailies will get you more than enough gems to buy an extra worker for 2 weeks.... which is totally worth it
