i think you are wrong, and that it's more worth it to go for 10 merge not 5 because with 10 you get 2 extra pieces left for other merging unlike with 5 because the formula is 3+3+3+1=4(even 5 with lucky merge idk if you can get even more lucky merges with this method) instead of 3+2=2(maybe 3 or 4 with lucky merges) so instead of you needing 2 extra pieces you need only 1 in the long run its way more worth it to merge that way, if im wrong please correct me 😄

I want to tell you that when you do a 10 the game thinks you're doing 2 5 merges, and if you do 15 the game thinks you're doing 5 3 merges

You are thinking about it weird, in my opinion. There is no increased proportional benefit from merging 10 vs. merging 5. Merging 5 to get 2 is the same as merging 10 to get 4. That’s just like merging 5, but two times.

You’re thinking of it as 3+3+3+1 —> 4, but it’s actually just 3+2+3+2 —> 4.

Lastly, from a practical perspective, 5-merge is better, because imagine having 8 items and then accidentally 9-merging (which is easy to do by accident). Accidentally 4-merging is much less painful.
