The thing that is not allowed is taking advantage of a bug or promoting an exploit, but I think it was not the case here.
We'll not sanction players who have unintentionally experienced bugs, it doesn't make sense. However, we could ban players who are who clearly taking advantage of some bugs to get unfair benefits (that's the case for all games, btw)

I'll make soon a clear statement regarding this. We also started to ban cheaters from the game.

Always merge 5 when able, coins and gems primarily, I reccommend using gems only for the new land expansions. I have heard opening silver chests is the best, so open silver and gold chests only. You can merge or trash bronze chests.
