(Think about how rocks and sticks get flung across the field until they find an open space. Use other items to fill the spots so that your dropping items go where you can find them.) Or you can keep the items on the farm for the fun of it. Make cool designs. Impress your friends!

Everybody who plays have different goals and resources. You can use gems to buy crates, open premium land, speed up harvests, buy extra workers to clear land/open toolboxes, or open chests. You can actually buy gems for real currency. Purchasing premium land is a good use for gems early in the game. It opens land and provides good resources. Since 5 crates drop every 5 minutes, you really get enough crates without spending gems on them. If you want to move the game along quicker, then paying currency to buy gems/crates is fine. Your call.
