This month, I want to go all in on bits. A lot of people like making their thing look unique. Rage is a good example, with that lovely Chaos cloak from Age of Sigmar! Other people like to swap bits around to make unique variants of their 'Mechs with fun kitbashes. And this even applies to art pieces, as you can add non-native line elements to your work to make something wholly unique to the world your piece fits into!

Be these fun, minor kitbashes, or completely overhauling the theme, let's go nuts! I am going to temporarily suspend the 80/20 rule on this post to encourage creativity, but please make sure that the core of your project is definitely relevant to the CGL page! If you want to have an UrbanMech dressed up as Elvis, make sure it is showing that almighty torso as Elvis always intended, for example. A good ratio here would probably be around 40/60, I think?

Here is a more recent bits-related post. I created this custom rocket-launcher centric Banshee by reusing the hand from a Gothic Atlas, as well as using thermoplastic putty and UV resin to create some duplicates of the SRM-6 launcher for each leg.
Shoulder spikes were also created with thermoplastic molds by using the missile tip from a Chaos Space Marine havok kit.

Here's a Project Phoenix Marauder I kitbashed some years back into the -9M2 configuration. The legs are from a 2nd-sculpt Blood Asp, the SRMs are from a Project Phoenix Warhammer IIC, and the big guns are aluminum tubing flanked above and below by the mutilated remains of a coffee stirrer. 🙂

My biggest kitbash so far has definitely been my Gothic Black Knight.

Dude....that's spectacular. I love the verdegris effect, and the 40k bits work perfectly. I mean, if you plunked that at the head of a Space Marine force, nobody would even blink.

The Necron panels work perfectly there, as raised armor details

It's not much of a kitbash, as it's not something I've dived too far into yet. But, this was an idea that came to me in a melatonin-fueled haze one night and was finally realized around the 2025 holidays. I humbly submit my CandyLAMd Urbanmech conversion.

As for the kitbash, I tried to make something similar to the 7SE from this Thunderbolt model. In reality, I only managed to remove the LRM)

Stone Rhino 5 in a very familiar livery, a mashup of a Warhammer, Phoenix Hawk and Crusader from a online picture, the Victor Kataga from New Dallas and the Black Knight Red Reaper.

Kitbashing is my raison d'etre.

I thought that the Victor Kataga had a left hand? While I don't know if I'd go in that direction to represent a LBX10, that's a great idea for a gauss for a VTR-9C/D/K

I, at LEAST, repose and re-base. Generally, to clean all the mold lines, I completely disassemble my minis, so why not? I'm currently cleaning up an Ostsol

The Valkyrie C is a beast, I didn't think that the Valk could get much better than the QD1, but dang. 5/8/8, with DHS, Clan MPL and Clan LRM10?

A Vanquisher 5V that's both a conversion and a repose. The heavy Gauss rifle is the autocannon from a MechWarrior Dark Age ForestryMech MOD, the right leg was cut apart and pinned to give the mech some height and there's some hand-scuplted detail on the left foot

This theme tied in nicely with finishing the Red Corsair.

Bits added: Photo etched ejector seats in 1:300 scale and a scratch built, open canopy.

Charger CGR-3Kr, converted to be totally WYSIWYG.

Besides the sword, I had to add laser barrels to the right and center Torsos, as well as the snub-nose and light PPCs on the left arm. I also had to add jump jet exhausts on the rear center torso and legs.

Been quite proud of my Iron Cheetah Conversion for a minute. Base is the metal Daishi, with work done to widen the torso and hips, and reconstruct the arms.

I’ve got a bunch of random kitbash and custom things 😆 first one is my mech from the local campaign. Something minor with an atlas head.

The other two are abominations. An urban-scorpion? And centaur mech!

weird bashes is my thang.. the problem is access to physical bits down here in MX usually leaves me.... restrained to concept bits, and then hoping I inspire some weirdos with funds and access to chop up the plastic.
