my thinking was that he needed it to function properly, as in when he was hooked up to that separatist machine he didn’t need it, and when he was unhooked he was weaker/dazed without it, and that huge ass chunk on his head helped him stay in the game, but apparently not, perhaps it was some kind of additional tech that he didn’t need but wanted as it was useful in some way
