As much as I love both movies, I personally don't consider either one iconic. It's a Wonderful Life is the standard and the blueprint of an iconic Christmas movie.
It could just be me...

But if I had to say which between the two that has more depth to it's story, it would have to be Rudolph. Even though its a repeated trope of being the odd one out, then finding your place in your world.

I haven't watched either film in a very long time. I've actually only seen snippets of The Polar Express because it came out past my childhood; I would've been a teen. I think Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer is more iconic. Everyone understands the basic story: bullied by your peers until one day you shine and become the best. Also an elf that wants to be a dentist, amazing. On the other hand I can’t even tell you what the Polar Express is about. Something, something, a train?
Also the animation between the two is leagues apart. The stop motion and adorable models of the characters in Rudolph hold up decades and decades later. While the animation in The Polar Express looked uncanny valley right on release. I can’t even watch it without shuddering or cringing.
