i think cardigan and folklore as a whole has one of the best storytelling. how she describes the relationship in betty's pov is magical actuallymereoli honestly the song is just great and the triangle relationship makes the song a lot more interesting and shows how well her storytelling is

i think cardigan bc while How Did It End and All Too Well had great lyricism, cardigan wins because it was a story made by Taylor.

All Too Well and How Did It End were from her life but cardigan, this was from a story made by Taylor and she wrote it so well by song. this song also showed her great talent of storytelling.

how did it end is the best written one ever i fear and the best lyric on the whole song is "guess who we ran into at the shops walking in circles like she was lost didnt you hear they called it all off one gasp and then how did it end" because like yeah i really like and its so superior and incredible how did it end hateres LEAVE. like um uh so basically the song lyrics are just like really um like idk its liike just really great and good and incredible and heartbreaking and honest and sad đŸ˜»đŸ˜ż

I chose how did it end for multiple reasons, though it was a close call. How did it end is more close to home, and my favourite lyrics are probably the bridge, though honestly, anything Aaron (Dessner) has contributed to automatically makes it a good song.
Cardigan would be my second choice, though, as i do love the delivery and story-telling.

these lyrics are just so deep. she does not care anymore. their relationship is dead. she can finally speak out about it after being quiet for an eternity. she’s left empty and grieved, and trying to improve their relationship was like trying to speak to a ghost (goes directly to holy ghost you told me I’m the love of your life). also changing the sitting in a tree k-i-s-s-i-n-g to sitting in a tree d-y-i-n-g is wild

how did it end is great, my favorite line is "We were blind to unforeseen circumstances
We learned thД right steps to different dancДs" i find that line so interesting beacuse it shows how they both wanted different things in the relationship and its just heartbreaking, the whole song is interesting beacuse taylor compares herself and her ex as similar things that are very different. i also like the lines where taylor "gossips" and showcases how people dont actually care about taylor but just care about the drama and stuff. #answer can i have olivia leg stretch

I personally think all too well because that song expresses exactly how she feels and it takes the listener on a journey throughout the entire relationship and I personally think the best line is "but maybe this thing was a masterpiece til you tore it all up" this metaphor is really strong and how she feels like the relationship was perfect but in one move from him it wasn't

I voted for ATW 10 minute version. It is my favorite song of all these options, having listened to it the most too of these options (206 times) I think this shows how interesting and repeatable the song is. Something very accomplished for a song that's 10 minutes long! It paints a vivid story that makes you feel what Taylor felt. It’s so hard to choose favorite lyrics, they all pack such a punch but I’ll say
“The idea you had of me, who was she?
A never-needy, ever-lovely jewel whose shine reflects on you
Not weepin' in a party bathroom”

All too well is really relatable to me, the lyrics really talk to me, for me that song is very special and I think by the lyrics you can imagine a whole story of 10 minutes which walks through a lot of stages, the other songs are amazing too by themselves so it was really hard to choose.

I really like all too well cause of it's detail heavy imagery in its poetic songwriting and the strong emotional sentiments. It just paints a very clear and vivid picture in your mind to put it simply.

My favourite lyric might be "And you call me up again just to break me like a promise, so casually cruel in the name of being honest..."

I personally think cardigan
because story-wise it is a masterpiece with many different sides points of views like "I knew you'd come back to me" or how Taylor talks bout how James only made Betty eel loved when she felt like an old cardigan.

I love How did it end , once of my all time favourites but I feel the lyricism is better than the story-line it follows , same with atw , The imaging is wonderful and all but over the plot points of Cardigan are better.

I personally love cardigan. The lyrics...

"I knew I'd curse you for the longest time...
...I knew I'd wish you would've changed your mind
I knew you'd miss me once the moment died...
...I knew to love would be to lose my mind"

The way Taylor delivered the original lyrics from the voice memo captivated me like a moth to a flame. The background vocals makes it soulful and euphonious!

Although cardigan has a beautifully constructed music production, How Did It End? lyrics is poetic and poignant with its raw emotions.

“When you’re Brooklyn broke my skin and bones I’m a solider who’s returning half her weight and did the twin flame blaze paint you blue.”

this is an incredible and super interesting way to write a song lyric. I think song lyrics become very incredible when you struggle to piece together what it means. In cardigan we know what “stars around scars” and Peter loosing Wendy means. But in the 10 minute version of all too well this one moment in the song with this bridge is very striking and leaves the listener wondering what all of this means.

In this moment we have to ask ourselves how the lyric resonates with us or why we chose it. As in all lyrics are cool because they can resonate with anyone. I chose this one because it’s very intricate and leaves me wondering more about what it means.

Tbh How did it end and Atw10 are tied because they both have powerful lyricism but i chose ATW10. The bridge itself is heart wrenching and you scream the bridge longer. HDIE is just as powerful but a shorter bridge. Also ATW10 scratches my brain hard.

Best lyric from How did it end: my beloved ghost and me sitting in a tree D.Y.I.N.G.

Best lyric from ATW: tossing me the car keys, FUCK THE PATRIARCHY

how did it end for me because the metaphors and figuritive language in it are just AUHHAGHHH
also, the bridge?? hello?? it starts out with an almost furious tone and then it shifts into a lullaby-like tone for "my beloved ghost and me, sitting in a tree, d-y-i-n-g" and that part draws inspiration from "blah and blah sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g" once i realized that my heart broke and it still breaks every time i listen to it 💔💔😭

These songs all have beautifully-written lyrics, but if I would have to choose the one with the best storytelling, I would choose Cardigan. It's the only one on the list that's not based on Taylor's real life, and I'M SORRY BUT IT READS LIKE AN ACTUAL NOVEL WITH CHARACTERS. I mean, the entirety of Folklore, especially the love triangle songs, have such AMAZING storytelling. And the fact that each of the love triangle songs have a different perspective of the same event is just really cool and genius! Plus, I feel like you can visualize the entire Cardigan song in your head, I know I do! And how the song starts out so calmly, but the bridge, you can feel the fury and sadness. I LOVE IT!!! Also the "and when I felt like I was an old cardigan under someone's bed, you put me on and said I was your favorite" metaphor is just so well-written and just a really good, but sad metaphor.

I really like cardigan’s lyrics for some reason because the way that in the whole storyline, the cardigan is a metaphor that since this was from betty’s pov, it’s based off her being used from james and i really like that. it can show you how not everything is so perfect and that there are going to be flaws and break-ups, cheats and other stuff.

Also, the way the whole music in general is also made. the melody used to be boring for me at first, but now i’m really into it because it’s just really catchy, especially the lyrics. “When you are young, they assume you know nothing” can show that you dont need to be fully matured, to understand what love is, or anything in the world.

i feel like the symbolism behind cardigan is why i consider it the best, folklore alone is one of her best songwriting works. the "felt like i was an old cardigan, under someone's bed" lyric makes me think of something that was forgotten, but when you remember it is there, you feel a small sense of admiration and longing for it.

haiii!!

i picked how did it end? because honestly the bridge is enough for me to say its got the best lyrics. "my beloved ghost and me" is one of my favorite lines on the entire album and i think the lyrics overall do an amazing job at telling the story of a relationship falling apart, which is something i think anyone can relate to, but it feels personal to taylor specifically because of how its lyrics communicate the constant demand people have to know about her love life.

i also picked this song because of the line "our maladies were such we could not cure them" is so amazing- showing that the relationship was too far gone and too damaged to be brought back to life. i also really like the "he was a hothouse flower to my outdoorsman" to show how closed in and confined she felt during the duration of the relationship.

If there’s one song that shows how amazing Taylor is at storytelling & songwriting, it’s “All Too Well (10 Minute Version).” This is more than just a song—it’s an emotional journey. The lyrics are so detailed and personal that they make you feel like you’re living the heartbreak with her. Out of the three, this one hit me hardest.

My favorite lyric has got to be "You kept me like a secret, but I kept you like an oath." This line is unforgettable. It’s so powerful because it shows how differently two people can see the same relationship. One person hides it, while the other holds it sacred. It’s simple but cuts deep.

How Did It End? has gravitated to me once Anthology was released. For me, I feel like it has the best lyrics from the three listed. Don't get me wrong, both cardigan & All Too Well (10 min) both are beautifully written. I just feel personally attached to HDIE due to the lines of;

"Leaving me bereft and reeling"
"It's happening again, how did it end?"

"But I still don't know. How did it end..?"
