I know a lot of the backbone of the economy is on fake people propping up prices being hoarded by the 0.1%

And perhaps a reactionary billionaire would do a selloff

But barring the immediate effects

It would become more equitable afterwards since if everyone, as you say, no longer shall hoard so much, by definition there will just be more shareholders/assetholders per capita

it's essentially taxing money that they don't have (in liquid form) which crashes the stock market value, meaning everyone with money in the market loses the value in their stock assets

how is that beneficial? the economy would literally be in shambles, and people will begin to depend on government spending to help them, which just worsens inflation

There has to be something that tempers or outright reverses the growth and accumulation of wealth occurring at the top

I also think that such a brand new tax would definitely not make it through and is just a pie-in-the-sky-something-to-talk-about-policy to get people talking

It depends how long term you want to look at it

If the economy has to momentarily tank for wealth inequality to be eliminated, is that better or worse than let it go at its current pace before another independent economic collapse?

well thats true considering majority of congress is republican, but thats the problem, politicians are making empty promises that seem beneficial to gain votes but are actually harmful, and ppl dont realize that and just blindlessly vote. they only focus on the effects that can be seen, but not the unseen effects of a policy, and politicians are using that to their advantage as if they'll actually give the country something good

it's not momentarily tanking wealth. it's going to be detrimental to the nation and to the entire world. the stock market loses investors bc of skepticism, and if anyone would dare to try, they'd begin investing at a terrible time in the economy, which is unlikely bc everyone will end up having little to no confidence when the stock market tanks

Kamala's Unrealized Gains Tax is probably not why people are going for her, anyway. It'd be nice if the main focus of this campaign was on economic policy like it was in 2012 but the main focus really going to be "Not Trump." This is one of those things where civil liberties, freedoms, and non-economic factors are the pressure points in the election

Assuming people's pressure point is the economy, welll...people have seen a Trump Presidency as well as a Trump Economy and simply put, people didn't like that. The decision making before and during the pandemic basically left a sour taste in everyone. Since he's running again, there's no reason for him to believe it'll turn around. Hence, you vote the alternative.

Again, that's a big if. This is also operating under the assumption that Trump doesn't do/prevent something worse.

Options are weighed and people have 4 years of experience under Trump while 0 under Harris. Effectively, voters will pick the new one due to the the dissatisfaction sown by the old.

i agree trump hadn't handled the pandemic that well, but if the pressure point really is the economy, shouldn't citizens be focusing on possible economic policies that kamala intends to bring? majority of what i see is just free healthcare for illegal immigrants, then grocery gouging

but at the cost of what? a lot of people voting for kamala might have issues of civil liberties fixed under her, but when the economy is still crap, that's when ppl start to focus on the bigger issues, but by then it's not guaranteed that kamala will actually make GOOD economic policies when people want her to, when majority of her campaign is focused on civil rights

Reducing taxes is a one-track-minded approach. Why not increase wages, especially the outdated federal minimum wage? I know it's cliche to bring it up but remember that the "happy" Nordic countries have large income taxes and the happiness and health is attributed to better public services.
