Idk I’ve been wondering about this for a long while. If you listen to enough of Taylor’s music you can kinda tell Joe was never really the kind of guy she was over the moon about. I know she wrote a lot of love songs about him but it’s not the “wildest dreams” type love she references earlier in her life. It was a more comfortable kind of love, but not something that pushed her like she needs. “I start a fight because I need to feel something…”

This is all just my opinion, but I’ve been listening to her sing about love for 14 years so it kinda all adds up in my head.

Also you can kinda tell by the romantically dramatic disdain she has for Jake and John Mayer. I’m a jake and John hater as much as anyone, but I don’t think it’s far fetched to say they both brought an energy to her life that she cares about. Joe’s love songs are great but they don’t really grab her the same way her feelings about these more turbulent guys do. And that’s a pretty common thing to go through, first you date toxic partners and see what you don’t like, then you date a safe partner and see what you’re missing, then hopefully you find some perfect winning combo.
