DEBUT MY BELOVED
when i was a little kid i was OBSESSED with our song, every day i would go over to my neighbors' house to sing and dance to it, we made up a dance routine to go with the chorus (basically acting it out) and for the verses just kinda jamming, I remember they told me I had "good moves"... I was just doing air guitar lol
Although Debut might ranked as a lot of people's least favorite album, it's still great!
The album is ranked on the 6th place in my rankings (Excluding Ogs, Live). My favorite song from Debut is APGH or The Outside. My favorite lyrics is "It's not unbroken anymore, how do I get it back the way it was before?" Debut used to be in my Top 3, but overall, the album is great! I remember that me and my mom dance Our Song when I was a little kid, it was so fun!
My favorite song from Debut is Mary’s Song (Oh My My My). When I first did a full listen through of Debut, not many songs stuck with me. But Mary’s Song did, and as I listened more, I fell more in love with it. I love how strong her songwriting was showcased here, writing it as such a young age. The storytelling is amazing, and it’s so sweet and nostalgic. I may have shed a tear or two listening to before. Two other songs from debut I love are Cold As You and The Outside. Cold As You again has very strong writing from a young Taylor and The Outside is a bop.
Although i have debut ranked last, it's so unfair. This album was written by a young taylor, but the lyrics are great for someone that age. I remember when i first listened to the album, i thought it was something different i was used to listening from her, but then i couldn't stop listening to it. Some of the songs i didnt like (Tim McGraw) but now i cant skip any song. Playing the cd is always a good journey, it has some nostalgia by itself, and listening to taylor's voice is just so cute.
Lately, i've been relating to Our Song like A LOT. Once, my now boyfriend and me did a picnic. But we had just started dating, so he only touched my hand and stuff, we had a blast tbh, but he didnt kiss me or hug me that day. By the time i got home after the picnic, he said he wanted to do both but he just couldn't, and ever since when i listen to that song, that day comes to my mind just like that.
Debut's songs are so relatable in a way it's just scary. I can't wait for Taylor to release the taylor's version with the vault tracks and see what other jewels she's been hiding all these years.
Well, today I decided to tell a story of myself when I was way younger... I was 12, I just found out and fell in love with Taylor's work and I took some time to listen to Debut songs (not only Fearless) and wow, all the songs were something so relatable to me back then (tbh A Place In This World is still relatable to me even nowadays), it wasn't easy to find something a young 12yo would relate to, like crying bc of unrequited crushes, dreaming about a perfect fairytale love, feeling insecure about trying to find a place in this world (I still am insecure about it after 13 years) and just connecting with her music... Debut (and Taylor's music in general) was a safe place to me during some school hardships (bullying), and it made me start loving country music (just like Fearless)!
Revisiting Debut nowadays brings me such nostalgia and tears in my eyes from a quite good time many years ago, times I wish it would come back bc everything was a lot more simple and less complex than adulthood struggles
Debut used to be very high in my ranking, nowadays it's #7 bc fortunately Taylor had a great musical evolution, but I still recognise that Debut was the blueprint of her career and she wouldn't be who she is now bc of Debut... So I love Debut with all forces, it's such a fun and nostalgic album to me
I know I already saw some ppl that say that "doesn't care if we don't get Debut TV", but that's just a sad opinion... I'm literally the most excited to Debut TV, to compare her voice evolution since her very first album to her current voice, and to listen to her revisiting her 1st work, back to her roots will be so amazing and heartwarming to me
My top 5 songs from Debut are: Teardrops In My Guitar, Should've Said No, Our Song, A Place In This World and Mary's Song (Oh My My My)
One thing about Debut that I think gets overlooked is how great a choice “Tim McGraw” was as a lead/debut single. The song itself is a great opener for the album, with that guitar at the beginning immediately setting the tone for the album. It paints a vivid story of a high school romance that comes to an end and really showcased what Taylor had to offer as a songwriter. But also, naming your debut single after an already famous musician is a ballsy move that ended up working out here, since it’s not used in way that sounds forced or cringey. It also probably helped with discoverability of the song for when people were searching up Tim McGraw and might happen across the song. All of this goes to show how smart of a businesswoman Taylor’s been from the beginning.
One of my favourite lyrics off of debut is from Cold as you!
"Every smile you fake is so condescending
Counting all the scars you made"
It baffles me that Taylor painted such an evocative scene at such a young age and this line is painfully relatable for all those of us that have been in toxic and manipulative/abusive relationships ( could never be me haha 😃 ) This is one of her most underrated track 5s and my heart really goes out to Taylor and I love that she's recognised her true worth
Favourites off the album: Tim McGraw, Picture To Burn, Teardrops On My Guitar, Our Song, I'm Only Me When I'm With You! Teardrops On My Guitar has a special place in my heart as its lyrics describe the feelings and heartbreak you feel when you like someone, but their heart belongs to someone else, and you just need to fake it because you don't want to break the friendship. I also love Picture To Burn and Our Song, absolute fun songs to scream to in the car!
Although I think debut is not the best taylor swift album, it's still a good album for someone that age. I first listened to the whole album jn 2019 and back then I didn't like the album because I didn't like Taylor's voice and overall lyrics but over time I think it had grown on me. My fav track off the album is picture to burn and cold as you. Both of these songs are so good!!! I am waiting for debut TV so much!! I think I would like debut TV more because I really would like to listen to other songs she wrote in this era which would be in the caukt songs. @primal hound
My beloved album. A true masterpiece.
Criminally the only album that is hated and underrated in it's own right; being country and rather too "yee-haw" in her vocals. Debut is amongst my top 10 favorite albums overall landing at #8 behind #7 "Slow Burn" by Jaira Burns. And in front of #9 "The Pains of Growing" by Alessia Cara. While it's in my top 3 of Taylor's albums following behind Speak Now & Fearless.
Debut essentially has 55% of the album in my top 100 Taylor songs of all times having;** I'm Only Me When I'm With You, Should've Said No, Tim McGraw, Stay Beautiful, A Perfectly Good Heart, & Invisible to name a few.**
Lyrics like; "He said the way my blue eyes shine. Put those Georgia stars to shame that night" / "If what you are is a daydream. I'll never get to hold, at least you'll know" // You never did give a damn thing, honey, but I cried, cried for you.
- These all just grasps a little sense of feeling wanted in the world even if you, the other person, or people say you don't deserve it. Debut is that album that has deep cut lyrics but people don't give it the time of day.
Coming to the end of the road, Debut will forever be something I will thank Taylor Swift for; because this was her "I want to be here and make a name for myself." While doing that she shows her lyrical value and her sense of worth for life in these songs. So cheers to the 16 years of this album that helped the world know and love Taylor Alison Swift. 🥺 💙
💚
Hello! Actually this is a really easy prompt for me because there's only really one song on this album that I like 💀 Should've Said No! I'm gonna be repeating what I've said a lot last year, but it's really fun to vibe along to this song because of its pure rage and the fact that it drips with sarcasm. Id also like to appreciate the Bad Blood/SSN mashup on tour, which is criminally underrated and so so fun to listen to ( better than enchanted/wildest dreams ) so yeah! That's pretty much it
happy anniversary debut! this album was what started it all, so no matter how anyone feels about the album itself, we have a lot to thank it for. some of my favourite songs on debut are 'our song', 'should've said no' and 'stay beautiful'. i got to hear 'i'm only me when i'm with you' live on rep tour, so that song also has a special place in my heart. i can't wait to hear debut tv with taylor's mature voice. here's to the album that led to an incredible career and so much more to come
I didn't actually think we'd get a debut prompt! But I am glad because it's actually a really good album and unfairly underrated. Because whether you vibe with it or not, it's what started Taylor's journey and that itself makes this album really special. Not to mention, it's really good as well. However you should take this with a grain of salt, because I'm a sucker for country style stuff (pandering or not). And this album lays heavily into country and her voice is adorable singing this style. It helps with the sarcastic jibes in "Picture To Burn", the playfulness in "Our Song" and the heartfelt emotions in the lyrics of "Mary's Song", "Tied Together With A Smile", "Teardrops On My Guitar" and "Tim McGraw". The song writing and lyricism is actually really good and intricate as well imo, especially considering her age when writing it. In my eyes, it really shows the potential and talent Taylor possessed back then, and we all know she only continued to get better and more stylised as her career progressed. My favourite songs are probably "Mary's Song" and "Tied Together With A Smile", just because they pull at my heartstrings. Here's to more success and beautiful memories Taylor; from the depths of gratitude, I sincerely thank you for the music.
My favorite song on debut is our song. I’ve always loved the music video! At first I didn’t really like debut because I thought it was “boring” or “too country” or whatever 😭 but looking back on it it was really just a great first album and to think she wrote all of that when she was only 16 and under
if that ain’t talent I don’t know what is. But anyways, happy 16 years of debut!
debut has never been my favourite, i always thought it was a little weird because she had a lot of strain in her voice during debut because it was the start of her career and the lyrics were more simple. but she was only 16 and just starting her career and i can still appreciate it if i want to because it was taylor's first ever album and debut has brought her to where she was today. i think it's a really sweet album about friendships and love and school, it's kind of innocent as well. my favourite songs are picture to burn, our song, and tim mcgraw, the music videos are also really cool to look back on and our song has a really nice music video
so i'm going to be honest and say i actually haven't listened to debut before but i decided to for this challenge. the country theme was definetly different from what i was used to with the more modern pop and alternative music genre but i did enjoy some songs (teardrops on my guitar for example) but its hard to form an accurate opinion right away bcuz usually songs take time to grow on me. its also cool to see how far taylor has come, listening to midnights right before this.
Hadn't picked up the courage to listen to debut until a couple months back, safe to say that it's an amazing Debut album. While there are albums better than debut, it doesn't deserve half the hate it gets. Debut was the start of Taylor's journey and will always hold a special place in my heart. My favorite songs off this album are perfectly good heart, should have said no, picture to burn a teardrops on my guitar. That being said i dont listen to it enough and i definitely need to listen to it more often.
debut is good because it has songs that are good and songs that are good are good because without songs then Taylor would not be good and if Taylor wasn’t good then we wouldn’t have more good albums like red or midnights which are good albums so thank you debut for being good
My favourite songs from debut are Cold As You, Mary's Song (Oh My My My), Stay Beautiful and I'm Only Me When I'm With You. I really think that Cold As You would hold up on one of her later albums because of the song writing quality, it's one of my all time favourite Taylor songs - not just from debut. I'm really curious to hear debut TV because her voice has obviously changed a lot, and I hope it'll get people to appreciate the album itself more. It still feels strange that this album is older than quite a few people in this server but time flies I guess
I always underappreciated debut when I started listening to Taylor but after some time it grew on me and I really like this album, my fav song are A Place in This World, I'm Only Me When I'm With You, Cold As You and Tied Together With A Smile. This album is not my favourite but its amazing, I can't wait for the Taylor's Version I bet it will be even more good
I remember watching teardrops on my guitar on mtv and I thought it was absolutely magical. I wonder if Taylor look back at that video now and cringe about the blur effects put on her skin 😂 it’s very fitting for that time period at least 😂 also Tyler Hilton starring in the music video as drew, I’ve been a fan of his music too for a really long time! If you haven’t you should check it out
Okay I’ll write something legit now… So I first started to listening to Taylor during the Red era so debut was way before that and I don’t really have many memories of it. When I first started listen to Taylor I would watch all the music videos and I think the first song from debut I listened to was Picture To Burn then Teardrops On My Guitar - which is a bop. One thing I find interesting about Picture To Burn is how many versions of it there are 😂
I first started listening to taylor when reputation era started so i dont have memories of debut.. but ofc as a fan i heard her whole discography years ago but i dont think that debut got my whole attention (singles only lol) until i heard should’ve said no while watching reputation stadium tour and fell in love with it. After she announced that she’ll re-record her first 6 albums, i decided to experience it as a new album idk if this makes sense
top 3: a place in this world, should’ve said no and our song. Tim mcgraw is amazing too
Debut might not be everyone's favourite but it definitely has some great songs
My favourite song from this album is Invisible 🥺 The line "And you can't see me wantin' you the way you want her, But you are everything to me" always gets me
I also really like Tim Mcgraw, but the funny thing is that Maggie Rogers' cover of this song is what got me into it. So i've listened to her cover of the song more than i've listened to the original version sung by Taylor 💀 (the point is that it's a great song)
Also love Mary's Song(Oh My My My), no particular reason, it's just a beautiful song
Can't wait to listen to vault tracks when the TV comes out!
debut was my last album that I listened to because I honestly thought it was better off listening to taylors version once it came out. however my friend really liked it so I started listening to a few songs very recently. My favourite is Mary's song and it's pretty high in my rankings overall, I really love the story and the way it's sung. I hope debut will grow more on me especially once Taylor's version is released.
Honestly, debut is such an underrated album. the lyrics on every song are literally so underrated and are not being spoken about enough. I think that cold as you is one of Taylor’s best songs, and I’m sure once debut (tv) will be released, everyone will appreciate the album more and show more recognition. I think cold as you is one of Taylor’s best songs because of the lyrics. She was so smart for her age it’s very impressive. Another thing i really love on the album is the song tied together with a smile. I truly appreciate Taylor for putting a song on her debut album at such a young age with such a meaningful and important meaning behind it. she was raising awareness with this song and I truly appreciate her for that. the album is really underrated and will get the recognition it deserves once debut tv will be released (hopefully)
I started listening to Taylor sometime during 2013, and really got into her music during 1989 era, so listening to debut was a strange experience to me, I was surprised how someone who was so into country could become world's biggest pop star in just 8 years. I do confess that I don't listen to debut as much as I should but still, most of the songs are still fresh on my mind, like it was yesterday when I found out this gem. My favorites are Only Me When I'm With You and Should've Said No
God, i was a baby when debut came out
debut is a beautiful album. I havent really listened to or liked the album as a whole but there are a few songs which have been on repeat now and then. My fav debut song is Cold As You. I absolutely love this song, the lyrics, the vibe, everything. It makes me cry like a pig. Ptb music video is a work of art and tim mcgraw is a great single. I was 6 when the album came out but i got into her music at 17 so over 10 years apart i think it is justified to not dig the whole vibe of the album. But it still is a great album !
Tbh, the whole album was introduced to me in 2009 or 20101 ig. I knew the singles but not the side tracks. At that time only mp3 was popular.
Since then I've been listening to this record till now. My fav track is The Outside. It's so relatable to me. My second favorite is TDOMG (Pop Version). Invisible is another level. I can't wait to hear TS TV. Hopefully a lot of people will talk about this when she releases the TV. 💚
debut is my least favorite album of hers, but that doesn't mean it's bad, in fact should've said no is one of my favorite taylor songs! teardrops on my guitar is also another favorite, i think debut taylor's version is gonna be great as well, definitely can't wait, wonder how the songs are gonna sound considering her voice is gonna be so different
I believe I listened to Debut after listening to Love Story. Maybe I‘m wrong. Very blurry memories. But at that time it was pretty fantastic. I only had listened to few artists back then. And Taylor was one of them. Maybe if it wasn’t for Debut, I wouldn’t have listened to her as much as I did. I probably said this last year as well and will say it again: Should’ve Said No live in the Rain performance is one of my all time favourite performances by her.
debut means so much to me
i was like 6ish? when it came out, and as a little weirdo with crazy curly hair it made me feel so good to see someone as cool as tay with hair just like mine
honestly a great album all around, she's just blessed us with so much damn good music its fallen down the ranking a lil bit. i have so many cozy, nostalgic memories attached to tim mcgraw, ptb, the outside (ok the whole album rly), it's still one of my fave albums to go back to when im feeling down and need a lil boost. looking forward to TV and how fab it'll sound!
Debut, the forgotten one. Or is that evermore? Jokes aside, this album doesn't get enough love in the fandom. It was the beginning of Taylor's phenomenal music career, and we wouldn't have the Taylor today without Debut. My favorite song on here is I'm Only Me When I'm With You. It's a beautiful song of how much friends and family can mean to someone. Best lyrics are I'm only up when you're not down,
Don't wanna fly if you're still on the ground.
😂 😂 😂
i laughed when i saw that one
To be honest, I have (still) never listened to debut as a whole album. But the one song that I remember listening way way back, when I didn’t even know who Taylor was, is Teardrops on my Guitar. Listening to it now, her accent is so different. Also the absolute BOP that Picture to Burn is, has the strongest country accent to me. She’s come so far 🥺 happy birthday debut 🫶
I think a lot of people forget how relatable and deep this album was and continues to be even as we grow. The lyricism may not be as mature as her later albums but I like how accurately it depics entering a new stage in life (such as high school or college). My favorite songs from this album are "Tied together with a smile" and "A perfectly good heart." I find them to be the most relatable and emotional to me. My favorite music video is Picture to Burn, I love how goofy and country it is and I feel it really captures who Taylor was during this era. My favorite performance was Should've Said No during the ACM awards, and even to this day I think it's one of her best live performances. Happy Birthday to Debut and I can't wait for Taylor's Verion!!
Debut is so good and was the beginning of Taylor's incredible career. Some of my favorite songs from this album are Tim McGraw, Our Song, and Should've Said No. Our Song is so dang catchy and is perfect for doing karaoke to and iconic. Should've Said No is such a good angry breakup song and it goes hard. Tim McGraw is so nostalgic and is about reminiscing about a former relationship and I've always loved songs about reminiscing about the past. Tim McGraw doesn't get enough love in the fandom 😔 Happy birthday to Debut
💙
debut debut debut
this album 😭 has so many memories and was the first taylor album i was obsessed with 🥺 or mb even the first album i was ever obsessed with. When i heard teardrops on my guitar first time, I became a swiftie and started exploring more of her songs. My fav songs from the album is the entire album yas 🤭 if i had to choose its tim mcgraw and cold as you. Tim Mcgraw is like one of those songs that gets better after every listen for me and the effect this song has on me is 😭 cant describe it 🥺 cay is my favourite track 5 out of all the albums, its a beauty 🥺 and stay beautiful is the most nostalgic one. The songs are beautiful and taylor thank you for the album and especially the song tim mcgraw, its one of my all time favs by ANY artist ever 🥺 ily debut sm sm sm sm sm sm sm sm sm sm 🤭
👑
🥺
Début what a throwback literally! My favourite songs include Cold as You, Tearsdrops on my Guitar and Picture to Burn :) I remember seeing one of my classmates perform Our Song in our talent show and that’s how I fell in love with Taylor afterwards hehe. Overall it is such a cute album and reflects what Taylor was going through at the time as a teenager. To the debut, happy sweet sixteen 💖
So debut is obviously the super underrated and super underappreciated album. After I had become a swiftie, I still didn't listen to it for the longest time and to say I regret it is an understatement. It's still pretty low in my rankings cuz I do prefer her other albums but it's fucking amazing. All the songs are chefs kiss and aaaa she's so talented for writing such masterpieces at that age
My favourite song is I'm Only Me When I'm With You. It reminds me of my friends who I can truly be myself with and another fav is A Place in this World. A very relatable song and I know it will always be relatable, even in the future. Should've Said No is also such a vibe and definitely top 3 in debut for me.
My favorite song from debut is Tim McGraw because I think it’s so underrated. I think the music video is super sweet and cute and I love how relatable the lyrics are, especially as a teenage girl like she was when she wrote it. I know this album is a lot of people’s least favorite album, but it’s definitely not my least favorite. I also love the lyric “I fake a smile so he won’t see” from Teardrops On My Guitar, because, again, it’s super relatable. I’m so proud of Taylor and how far she’s come!
A Place In This World, The Outside, Cold As You and Picture To Burn have to be my favourite songs on debut. I love the production in the outside, the sassy vibe of ptb and the lyrics in APITW a lot. Cold As You is also such an amazing song considering it was written so long ago with how it conveys her emotion and portrays her feelings
