“and it was like slow motion standing there in my party dress in red lipstick” the moment i knew is so sad and i relate too hard to it because of last year when the only person i wanted to celebrate my birthday with never contacted me because we had an argument the day prior. we never talked again after that
oof, that's no fun. hope you found new people, they don't deserve you ❤️
My favorite lyric from Red is "Love is a ruthless game, unless you play it good and right", from my favorite song (and the song Taylor named after me) State of Grace. I never really see people talk about this song, it's got a relatively low amount of Spotify plays. I love the wordsmithing, but also enjoy the message. All the relationships I've been in so far have ended horribly, so I can definitely relate to love being ruthless- I just need to figure out how to play it right. 😉
i have the bestest friends ever now !! ❤️
Red has some of the first few tay songs i ever listened to (WANEGBT and IKYWT). It’s created great memories for me and especially since Red TV was my first ever album rollout on this server! Currently my favourite song on it is Red (the title track), and I especially love the chorus and post chorus. My favourite lyric on it may just be the chorus, the colour imagery is so good and vividly paints the image of the relationship without needing a dictionary (looking at u the lakes)
The lyric "I find it strange that you think I'm funny cause he never did" from Begin Again is heartbreakingly beautiful, and the way she delivers it makes it even more potent. It's one of the handful of songs that have made me cry because of that line. Which is strange, because song doesn't relate to my life at all.
My top 3 favorite lyrics from Red are:
"Thinkin' all love ever does is break and burn and end
But on a Wednesday, in a cafe, I watched it begin again."
- This part in Begin Again is just something I relate to due to it being very picture perfect and real for me. Begin Again is a song I used to dislike but actually going through what the song is about I started loving it and related to it even more. Begin Again is truly underrated imo.

"You took the time to memorize me
My fears, my hopes, and dreams
I just like hanging out with you all the time."
- Stay Stay Stay; probably controversial but is one of the best off Red. The beginning part of the bridge is very relatable when you find that one person who truly wants to be with you forever; through think and thin. SSS doesn't even have to deal with relationships only and could count for as friendship with someone who unconditionally loves you.
"And what do you do
When the one who means the most to you
Is the one who didn't show?"
- The Moment I Knew is probably a song any swiftie can relate to or feel for if their relationship hit the ditch. Just uttering the words of is the one who didn't show. It really hurts. In a conversation (they hide their true feelings from you) or physically.

A part I really love from Red is “So you were never a saint, and I’ve loved in shades of wrong. We learn to live with the pain, mosaic broken hearts” from State of Grace. I think the melody is so catchy and the lyrics are poetic. She conveys the idea of people having pasts and making mistakes but still finding love and or moving on without forgetting the things that shaped them into who they are. “Mosaic broken hearts” in particular paints such a simple yet detailed image. I also love how this sentiment is echoed in later songs, like invisible string (“Hell was the journey but it brought me Heaven”) and Lover (“With every guitar string scar on my hand, I take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover”)
My favorite lyrics can be surely found in many Red tracks (almost the entire album), but the one that takes the crown for me is:
"This is the last time I ask you this,
Put my name at the top of your list"
I'm currently in my longest relationship, but throughout the entire relationship I constantly caught myself during the midnights (and even during the day, even at work) overthinking if I'm at the top of my boyfriend's list just like he's at the top of my list... Like, overthinking if I'm a priority for him, and this lyric from The Last Time immediately pops up in my mind... I feel like it expresses perfectly my overthinking regarding my bf... But of course this overthinking quick vanishes when I'm with him, he really knows how to make me feel I'm at the top of his list ❤️
I've always loved the song (it's my all time favorite), but this lyric became so meaningful and special to me throughout my current relationship to express my overthinking, anxiety and fears I keep inside my mind
I love what you said about Stay Stay Stay. The song gets so much hate, but it's just so cute and the lyric is just
PS: only writing one lyric bc if I write about all the favorite lyrics from Red I'll write an essay just like I did with the recommend a small artist activity
The Lucky One
You're the lucky one
This line is what all my classmates say to me because I get really good marks in my tests, mostly the highest or second highest. But what they don't understand is that I prepared a lot. Sometimes they accused me of cheating too, maybe not in a hating way but still. Sometimes even though i get the highest marks, my parents aren't happy as they want me to get better marks.
"I hear the sound of my own voice asking you to stay // And all we are is skin and bone trained to get along " I just loveee treacherous and the lyrics are so chef’s kiss with the two point of views. The imagery in these two lyrics are so easy to depict and just are detailed. Haven’t been able to relate to this song like romantically but can definitely have similar feelings in terms of friendships just disappearing after a while. Someone who you know for a long time but they become friction due to circumstances. Anyways that’s one of my fav Taylor lyrics from Red 💕
** If I was standing there in your apartment
I’d take that bomb in your head and dissolve it
I’d say “I love you” even at your darkest
And please don’t go, uh-oh
…
Too young to know it gets better
I’ll be summer sun for you forever **
These lyrics from forever winter are really personally meaningful to me. It represents how getting through a hard time with someone else by your side to help you is so much better than doing it by yourself, and that it’s okay to ask for help. Especially in the case of mental health. Taking the risk of dissolving the bomb in their head shows how much another person is willing to help to care for you and that there are people out there in the world who o love you and that you are never alone in your journey of fighting whatever it is that is keeping you down.
One lyric I love from Red is "but on a Wednesday, in a cafe, I watched it begin again". It paints a picture of her being at peace and just sipping on her coffee and being hopeful about the future. Begin Again is such a good closer to Red
Bonus lyric goes to "Oh my god, she's insane / she wrote a song about me / i bet you think about me" because a) the outro to I Bet You Think About Me is so funny and B) because it kinda foreshadows Blank Space a bit 😂 😂 😂
No surprise 🤪 but for me it’s “nothing safe is worth the drive” from treacherous 💕 a quote I’ve been holding on to many many times when life and love felt hard and distance and timezones sucked and all I wanted was a teleportation machine and being in the same room instead of talking on the phone 😔 and all that holding on and sleepless nights were worth it in the end, and that lyric has been my own mantra ever since whenever life feels difficult
All of red brings so many memories and emotions and I will never stop loving it for that reason alone 💕
i knew this was coming as i was writing the prompt lmao
😂😂😂 what else tbh 😂
"I call just checkin' up on him
He's up, 5 AM wasted
Long gone, not even listening
My voice comes out screamin'"
I really love this lyrics and they make me relate abit because of a friend of mine who had rlly bad thoughts, by this moment he is fine, but these lyrics are so sad and everytime I listen to this song it makes me feel kinda sad 😭 but it's one of my favs ever
A favourite lyric of mine from Red is:
"I wish it wasn't 4 AM, standing in the mirror
Saying to myself, "You know you had to do it"" - from Better Man
It's a favourite because of how sorrowful it is and the impact it carries. The whole song is about having to let something or someone go for your own health. But this particular set of lyrics is about having to constantly convince yourself that you made the right choice and how tiring that is. Because what happens if you made the wrong choice? That you let something and/or someone go for nothing? And you have to catch and stop yourself from overthinking the situation and say "You know you had to do it". I do this quite a lot, even about things and people I kept around. And often it is while lying awake at unreasonable hours.
"And for the first time, what's past is past"
Begin Again is up there with one of my favourite songs from Red and also it was the perfect way to end the (non-deluxe) version of the album because it signifies healing.
Moving on from the relationship and realising it doesn't need to be brought up again because it's in the past is a really healing thing especially when it felt like it would never be in the past. In Begin Again she was able to stop those memories being spoken about because they were being replaced by something more positive which is just a really nice feeling.
"this is falling in love in the cruelest way, this is falling for you when you are worlds away" really hit when i was in an ldr up until right before tv came out, it felt very heartbreaking and honest and vulnerable, like she just drove home after dropping him at the airport and then cried in the car for a bit and sorry tay but i love when ur sad
"But time moves faster Replaying your laughter Disaster"
I picked these lyrics from Message in a Bottle because it reminds me of playing back old memories and reminiscing about older times to make yourself happy. however, in the end it does't work because you end up being sad about the present and wishing you could go back hence "disaster".
one of my favorite lyrics from red tv is from 'i almost do' :
"I bet,
It never, ever occurred to you
That I can't say "Hello" to you,
And risk another goodbye"
this is the one which hits close to home, because it's so hard to put yourself in the shoes of other people even if you love them, and then think what will cause them heartbreak, especially if you already have their blood on your hands. also the second chance trope is just... too hurtful anyways
My favorite lyrics from
are:
"If I was standing there in your apartment
I’d take that bomb in your head and dissolve it
I’d say I love you even at your darkest
And please don’t go.."
This part of Forever Winter hits really close. It reminds me of my friend who was having a very hard time after someone close to him passed away, It reminds me of my shitty behavior towards him during that time, It is a reminder to never be so cold towards others, It reminds me of my guilt of not being there for my friend, not helping him, not comforting him, not being the summer sun I should've been.
I love the repetition of "you'd be here" in The Moment I Knew. Going from "you said you'd be here" to "he said he'd be here". It's such a great transition of her speaking to the guy to having to speak about the guy. It mimics the climax of the song as the true moment she knew he didn't care as much as she did. Overall, this song is one I feel is so underrated. It's an incredibly moving song and the lyrics are so heartfelt and heartbreaking.
My fav lyric from red is "it takes everything in me not to call you" just because this is so simple but hurts so much. I almost do pinched through my heart because it is so real and so relatable. Another fav would be this is the last time.. "And right before your eyes
I'm breaking". These are my fav lyrics because of the raw emotions I feel even typing them now.. From
: The entirety of forever winter is a lyrical masterpiece. No because listen-
🤌
"All this time I didn't know
You were breakin' down
I'd fall to pieces on the floor
If you weren't around
Too young to know it gets better
I'll be summer sun for you forever
Forever winter if you go"
🤌
i am mad at taylor how did she not release forever winter ago
"Cause it's not fair that you're not around
This is when the feeling sinks in
I don't wanna miss you like this
Come back, be here
Come back, be here
I guess you're in New York today
And I don't wanna need you this way
Come back, be here"
So during the pandemic i had like zero friends but i started talking to this one girl in class and eventually her bsf too, we became a trio
we grew so close and didnt actually meet each other irl for so long until we did it was as if we had known each other for decades we kept on meeting each other a lot of times finally school started and we made the best memories
one day one of my friends she told me she was shifting to another state
it was the worst feeling... i didnt know how to respond then one day she really did go we still talk to each other and the two of us from the trio have become great friends but whenever i hear this song my heart breaks i miss her so much
My favorite lyric from the album red would probably have to be ”hey, you call me up again just to break me like a promise” from the song “all too well” this lyric has so much special meaning to me. I just love the way Taylor put this quote into a song form. All of Taylor’s songs are just really catchy and I love that. 🤍
Some of my favorites lyrics from red are from forever winter, “to young to know it gets better, I’ll be your summer sun for you forever.” And “if I was standing there in your apartment I’d take that Bomb in your head and disarm it” I just love screaming that at the top of my lungs and forever winter is probably my favorite vault track from red
God, this album is incredible and has wayyy too many amazing lyrics for me to choose one but I think is it.
"And I see the permanent damage you did to me
Never again, I just wish I could forget when it was magic"
These lines remind me of one of my favourites books and they genuinely feel like a personal attack. The feeling of clinging on to a relationship even though you know in your essence that the halcyon is far gone, not being able to let someone go and calling it hope
(please get the reference) is so perfectly encapsulated.
I've been spending the last eight months
Thinking all love ever does
Begin Again is probably my favourite song from Red. The lyrics I have linked might not be the way Taylor intended to be interpreted. But it personally means a lot. And I always think about it when I listen to it.
New to town with a made-up name
In the angel's city, chasing fortune and fame
And The Lucky One would be the 2nd one. Again something that I relate to personally starting a new life in a new place.
Red is such a beautiful album with some really great lyrics. One of my favourites on this albums is "Forever going with the flow, But you're friction" This lyric always stood out to me... so simple yet so strong. Another favourite lyric is "He didn't like it when i wore high heels, but i do" I've always had this problem of needing validation from everyone, which i'm trying to unlearn, so this lyric hits home.
Also, so many people hate on Stay Stay Stay but idc i love its bridge so much especially "You took the time to memorise me, My fears, my hopes and dreams I just like hanging out with you all the time" Cutest lyrics ever mb
my favorite lyric, that really hit me, was "You kept me like a secret but I kept you like an oath" 1 sided relationships are the worst, and there isn't a feeling worse than putting in so much effort, while the other person doesn't do the same, it makes you feel worthless, overall all too well 10 minute version is a lyrical masterpiece in my opinion, but i still prefer the 5 minute version lol, red is definitely an iconic album, and the taylor's version was even better!
"The bravest thing I ever did was run"
"I know I’m probably better off all alone than needing a man who could change his mind at any given minute" These lines from better man hold so much meaning for me. While they aren't that lyrically complex they've always stood out to me because you can feel the pain behind the lyrics, they describe how hard it is to turn away from something you know is not good for you and how you're better being alone than with someone who doesn't value you, respect you. My heart goes out to Taylor everytime i heat this song.
red has so many amazing lyrics so I can't decide on a favourite but begin again has two great sections which are:
I've been spending the last eight months
Thinking all love ever does is break, and burn, and end
But on a Wednesday in a café, I watched it begin again
And we walked down the block to my car
And I almost brought him up
But you start to talk about the movies
That your family watches every single Christmas
And I want to talk about that
And for the first time, what's past is past
I love how they create a really hopeful and uplifting vibe in the song through showing how things have changed as well as signifying new beginnings. being in the last track, they really add to the story that the album tells because after all the songs about heartbreak, it indicates how it isn't forever.
also the verse in atw 10 min that starts with "they say all's well that ends well" is so good. love the wordplay
My fav lyric off red would probably be ‘too young to know it gets better, I’ll be summer sun for you forever’ from forever winter. i think a lot of people, including me find comfort in Taylor and sometimes we have to deal with hard and complicated things. I feel like this lyric is very comforting to us or anyone that hears it. basically the whole song is, but especially this lyric. as you grow you’ll get better than i think that’s very comforting to hear that from an important person in your life. it’s nice to hear that there’s somebody by your side.
another lyric that I really love is ‘but I think that it’s best if we both stay ‘ from stay x3. it doesn’t have to be interrupted romantically. I personally interrupt this line as a friendship lyric , it’s a song that connects me and my friend. i just wish they would stay stay stay.
Red is such a mixed feelings album for me, it makes me sob, scream, laugh or dance depending on the time of the year. But the one song that pulls at my heartstrings the most is Sad Beautiful Tragic. Especially the second verse and bridge.
And time is taking its sweet time erasing you And you’ve got your demons and darling they all look like me
Distance, timing, breakdown, fighting, silence, the train runs off its tracks
Kiss me, try to fix it, COULD YOU JUST TRY TO LISTEN? Hang up, give up. For the life of us we had enough
It is a whole "I'm the problem it's me" from both sides of the argument, but mostly because of miscommunication. Hits too close and makes me the saddest because it's one of those things I'm most terrified of. Losing someone because of misunderstandings and miscommunications.
One of my favourite lyric from Red is "What do you do when the one who means the most to you is the one who didn't show?" Having had a few bad experiences in the past, this lyric really stands out to me since to this day I still look forward to being able to talk to those people. I've spent days waiting for them to message me, I still am and every single time I listen to this song, it reminds me so much of them. Actually though, all the lyrics from The Moment I Knew hit hard.
Another lyric which had me bawling my eyes out is "Too young to know it gets better, I'll be summer sun for you forever." I think this line is too much for me to explain but I just couldn't not put it so yeah 😂
A lyric I really love from Red would be “I waited on every careless word
Hoping they might turn sweet again
Like it was in the beginning” from Better Man. I loved Taylor’s rendition of Better Man because you could really hear her pain instead of anger like the Little Big Town rendition. This lyric also resonates with me because I tend to be too hopeful and believe in people too much. Another lyric I love is “How did I go from growin' up to breaking down?” from Nothing New, because I really felt like I was breaking down, especially at the time when Red TV was released. I resonate with both these lyrics a lot, especially on a personal level, because Taylor just loves writing songs people can relate to lol.
red is such a lyrical masterpiece that i could literally never pick one favourite lyric. some of them would be the state of grace bridge, the first verse of treacherous, 'i know why we had to say goodbye like the back of my hand, but i just miss you and i just wish you were a better man' from better man and sooo many more. ik we're not meant to say atw but that entire song is so good, in particular, 'you kept me like a secret but i kept you like an oath' and 'every time you double-crossed my mind'. there are so many more i've probably forgotten about, but red is one of my favourite albums lyrically and i can't believe its ten years old. happy red day

Red is such an amazing album omg extremely tough to pick a fav lyric. My fav songs are begin again (the most precious song ever, the bridge makes me ascend AND ITS SO BEAUTIFUL), state of grace (i think this is one of her best works ever) and forever winter. My fav lyric from the album is from ronan- 'what if i'm standing in the closet trying to talk to you, and what if i kept the hand-me-downs' you won't grow into?' 😭 This line makes me bawl and beautifully paints an image and is also something I did after my grandfather passed away like trying to talk to him and keeping his handkerchief 🥺 ok i can't see cause of tears i will stop writing 😭
