Maybe somewhere in the village could keep track of your highest winstreak and current winstreak

Personally I'd vote to ignore difficulty changes since it's the most flexible.
(Continue even if the hard mode tier is changed)
If anyone's serious about tracking the highest win streak on a certain difficulty then run recordings would be the go to expectation for ensure fairness in friendly competition.
Otherwise you could use it in any way you'd want, personal best, among a ruleset shared with friends, etc
