The Donkey Kong Bananza page both lists Nintendo Switch as a platform and begins the description with “Donkey Kong Bananza is exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2!” I believe the description is correct and that the game is not and will not be on Nintendo Switch. Is there a reason to keep Nintendo Switch listed as a platform or can I remove it?

because it was initially going to be on the Switch 1, but was cancelled

is there a use case for keeping cancelled releases on the page? it seems counterintuitive to me to display out-of-date info

i can kind of understand listing it under Releases but still doesn’t make sense to me to list it under Platforms

That's probably due to caching. We had this bug reported a month or so ago (using the same game as example funny enough). So it should already been fixed.

We do still have a couple tickets around how we handle platform releases. There are some discrepancy between these 2 places on the page still.
Thanks for reporting!

I also think if a game only has a Next Gen Optimisation Patch it should not show up there like Cancelled releases.

Dreams for example lists PS5 as a platform here: https://www.igdb.com/games/dreams

But there was no PS5 version, all it got was a patch to unlock the menus to 60fps on PS5. So it looks very misleading unless you specifically look at the releases section.

In fact for websites like Backloggd it’s impossible to tell if a game has a native PS5/Switch 2 version or a next gen patch like: https://backloggd.com/games/dreams/
https://backloggd.com/games/rocket-league/
https://backloggd.com/games/super-mario-odyssey/

In regards to sites like Backloggd, that's how they choose to display it. The API does show that the PS5 release was for the next gen patch

Sure but when you request platforms from the API it includes PS5, you would have to manually filter out platforms by release type which isn’t obvious.

Problem is nearly all downstream sites don’t do this.

With cancelled games it’s not a problem see here how it doesn’t display Switch 1: https://backloggd.com/games/donkey-kong-bananza/

Same would apply for filters, even on IGDB Advanced Search if you filter by a platform it includes Next Gen patches in the search result while it doesn’t for Cancelled releases.

For example filtering by Nintendo Switch would not Include a DK Bananza:
