#An expansion on the Localization options would be nice

I respectfully request that the localization system be improved to allow for more granular region settings beyond the broad “Europe” and “Japan” options. Currently, this limitation hinders our ability to accurately represent region-specific content—for instance, assigning unique cover art for Night Watch in countries such as Russia, Czechia, and Poland. Additionally, release dates are affected by this overly broad categorization, as “Europe” encompasses approximately 44 countries, many of which may experience different launch schedules.

By expanding localization options, you would empower developers and localizers to:

  • Assign Region-Specific Covers: Enable distinct cover art for individual countries or smaller groups of countries, reflecting local market trends and cultural nuances.

  • Schedule Precise Release Dates: Provide granular control over release dates to account for the diverse timelines in different European countries and beyond.

  • Improve Market Representation: Cater to regional differences more accurately, thereby enhancing user satisfaction and strengthening regional marketing strategies.

Enhanced regional localization would not only improve the overall quality and relevance of localized content but also demonstrate a commitment to serving a truly global gaming community. Thank you for considering this improvement.

👋 Hello! Thank you for your feedback!

Unfortunately we can't offer additional localization options at this time as our small team doesn't speak any other languages besides Japanese. The EU cover art is mainly used for older titles and should probably be updated to be PAL at some point.

As far as release regions go, this is something that we could definitely expand. Can you provide an example of a game that is released on a different day in Czechia vs Poland?

Hey, thanks for considering the release region expansion! Even without full localization, adding more specific country options for dates would be super helpful for accuracy.

For the game i used as example, i could only found the year, but for example, older PAL games often had staggered launches. Final Fantasy VII (1997) released in the UK on Nov 17, Germany on Nov 27, and France on Dec 4—all under the “Europe” umbrella. Or Metal Gear Solid (PS1), which hit the UK in Feb 1999 but didn’t arrive in Italy until June 1999. Collectors and historians care about these nuances!

Since the site already lets users add missing companies, maybe a similar "Add Country" option could work? That way, contributors could fill in gaps without requiring translation work from your team. Just having the ability to tag specific countries for dates (even if covers stay regional) would make the database way more precise.

For the game i used as an example, i only found the release year, but i can give example of similar situations:

Mafia was released in Sep 18 of 2002 in Czechia for it's original release on PC, and then on Poland it had an commemorative release by Cenega Poland as part of the Pomarańczowa Kolekcja Klasyki or Orange Classics Collection released in Oct 9 of 2009

Also, there's this Turkish game called Kabus 22, released in Turkey, Russia, Czechia and Slovakia.

For turkey, it was released Dec 26, 2006

Russia: Oct 19, 2007

and for Czechia and Slovakia: Feb 1, 2008

We definitely need Russia as selectable, tonnes of games made from Russia and released in Russia. The others mentioned do have a fair amount unique dates, Germany has a tendency to have a different date as well as Scandinavian countries
