#Sonic Riders X/EVO

The current page for Sonic Riders EVO came from the page created on the game demo "Sonic Riders X"
Sonic Riders X was a game I worked on with one other developer in 2021 and released said demo for at Sonic Amateur Games Expo

Now, fans created the initial Sonic Riders X IGDB page and erroneously updated said page to be called "Sonic Riders EVO" and all its content.
I am the sole developer of Sonic Riders EVO and view it as a separate game from Sonic Riders X, not a new version or update.

The reasons for this are as follows:

  • The name and logo are entirely different (The full name is Sonic Riders Evolution)
  • The development team is not the same, the team for Sonic Riders X disbanded and is not working on Sonic Riders EVO (Except me)
  • The assets from the Sonic Riders X demo are not being used in Sonic Riders EVO
  • Sonic Riders EVO was created from the ground up after Sonic Riders X was effectively canceled due to the team disbanding
  • The games are not even made in the same engine. Sonic Riders X was created with Unity, Sonic Riders EVO is being developed in Godot

It's for these reasons that I would like for Sonic Riders EVO to be treated as a game separate from Sonic Riders X, rather than just an update to Sonic Riders X, hopefully receiving its own page.
It was also said to me that demos are not tracked, so I would like to add that I'm rather confused that Sonic Riders X was tracked to begin with (in this case as early access, which is not what it was)

Just to follow up with what @main parcel said in #general , since the previous title existed and the sites entire focus is the documentation of games history, a renaming of the page to EVO that is made on a completely different engine and shared no assets would be very unlikely. And it would probably be more appropriate for EVO to get a completely new page.

Now, if X was released as a demo, but intended for a future full release, then it could probably be changed to "cancelled". Just note this would remove the title from Twitch.

so

#

i agree on it getting separated or something, i just removed some info that was related to X due to that

#

not all because i want staff's thoughts on this

#

About the demo thingy that's probably worth clarifying too: Yes, we don't track Demos themselves (with some exceptions below) but we may track the game itself, in the sense of like it's going to get a full release at some point, without release dates

#

Some folks may add Demo dates, which we don't allow but they can get slipped up and it seems it was the case.

There are also some historical exceptions like PT.

yup

#

also if the Demo is completely different to the full game

I wanted to ask if there was any progress on separating these so far, as right now the page is still a weird mix of Sonic Riders X and EVO, in that it has "Sonic Riders X" as the working title as well as screenshots and videos from X even though the release date has been accordingly removed, as EVO is still a work in progress

#

This has also caused quite a bit of confusion in the community for the game, where people thought Sonic Riders X was the same as Sonic Riders EVO, when they are different games

#

It also still links to the Sonic Riders X SAGE demo release on the database page

#

which is incorrect

#

But when I try to suggest these changes directly on the website, I keep running into declined changes with the argument that "Sonic Riders X is the working title"

Hi! We recently discarded your change to strip all of the screenshots and video from the page. If you feel these are out of date, you can replace them with more up to date screenshots and video, but removing them without replacements wouldn't be accepted unless Sonic Riders X is accepted into the database as its own page. For that, we would need to see evidence that these should be separate games and that it's not the same game renamed during development. The Sonic Riders EVO Twiiter account indicates the game changed names and was not cancelled

There's been quite a bit of progress on the rewrite of the codebase for Riders X (The demo was expectedly messy in that department)

With a name change comes a new logo

Hey! It's been a while.
The game is still being actively developed and is not canceled.

We usually post on our tumblr blog nowadays!
(See the reply to this tweet)

The link on our profile for our Discord server has also been updated.

The game is now made in a completely different engine and does not use any of riders x' assets at all

#

Do you want me to post on twitter that it's a separate game or something?

#

The game was originally based off of Riders X but during development it was decided that it was better to redo everything entirely and with a new name

#

I can delete those posts as well

#

It's just getting quite frustrating

#

What counts as evidence for you? I made Riders X and am the developer for EVO and I say that they're not the same game

#

The whole page was added and changed over time by fans and it's caused nothing but frustration for me

#

I don't want to end up having to tell everyone that the IGDB page is wrong and can't be trusted

#

which I unfortunately already had to with the screenshots for one person, as someone believed that the screenshots on the site were from EVO

#

If this all hinges on me saying "Name change" in the past I will gladly delete that post

#

as it's not correct anymore, although I don't like deleting past things very much

#

Hence the clarification

#

I really don't know what else to say

#

I'm making the game and I'm asking for information to be corrected

#

I recognize that I didn't make a full on public post about when the development team disbanded and everything

#

but that doesn't mean the IGDB page should contain misinformation

#

Feel free to submit a separate page for Sonic Riders X, as well as a change on the EVO page removing those details and make a comment on the X page explaining the situation

#

Can it be guaranteed that it won't be declined again?

Well, I'll go ahead and make a page for Riders X then

Alright :)

#

@tepid sail just saying beforehand that i'm putting these on-hold just for staff discussion

#

no action required rn, you will get notified on the site when Admins comment on it

tepid sail
#

Alright

#

I did my best to make the new page comprehensive

#

There's also the question of EVO even being on IGDB in the first place because the guidelines say that games too early in development might be discarded

#

and the most I can show for EVO are the development videos on tumblr

#

Same thing for Riders X as it was only a demo, but I guess now both are already in the database

#

That being said, I would also not mind them being removed entirely

I see

# tepid sail I see

Just to be sure and I don't mess up your submission by added a few Keeper-only fields, on the website you linked, are all those assets/comments from X and not EVO? (artwork/screens/videos)

tepid sail
#

Yes that is Riders X

#

there are currently no proper screenshots or videos other than the development ones on tumblr for evo

Just as another thing to add that could help show their separation, what Engine did X use? As EVO uses Godot and is entered over there. Just want to add the different Engine you mention earlier by name.
