i personally think people care too much about whether something takes "skill"

now that isn't to say that skill doesn't exist in games and such, it absolutely does, and improving at a game is part of the appeal of a vast majority of them. this isn't even necessarily about this game either where characters can very often just annihilate you with a miniscule level of effort. but, i've never really cared about skill as a pride thing. i would still like to be able to improve by my own right, but if a game gives me a stronger, easier, and low effort option that i enjoy using, i'm most certainly going to use it and i feel no deep intrinsic need to prove that i won in some kind of "right" way or that i'm more skilled than the people i happen to beat

stuff like this is why the whole idea of throwing insults at someone going on about how they're cheap, carried, or unskilled has always been pretty funny to me, cause it only really works if the other person is invested in the same idea of skill as some kind of status symbol. it's even funnier in games where balance is already pretty messy, where characters can annihilate you with minimal effort, so hinging your pride on whether something takes skill or not is just silly to me

Firstly. Yes you are correct that insulting people for having fun in the game is wrong. If you've had a long day at work and just wanna have fun you'd like your easy options to chill and relax I get that and I wholeheartedly agree.

The issue I have when "skill" is brought into the equation is when competitive gaming gets involved. If you play an easy character and defeat me while I'm playing a hard character you have zero right to taunt me or feel proud about winning. If you humbly defeat me and acknowledge I was at a serious disadvantage I have no problem. But when you start t bagging and emote like you did something I have a problem.

People throwing insults like "ugh you're on rapid deku you are so skilless" you have to understand yes you love deku and you wanna play him but if you've defeated a twice he has the right to be upset at you no matter the circumstance because he was genuinely at a disadvantage

i think that's a bit different from what i was trying to say, but i get what you mean. bm is bm and if someone wins using a stronger pick and starts to bm while acting like they did something crazy, then that's just plain silly and it's pretty understandable how that can be annoying. it's not even really unique to playing something easy, but like a specific flavor of being super obnoxious after a win
