I've already gone from "just get a sisterly proc off downed players" to "okay maybe sometimes I can punish people with a melee and get a sisterly proc in the return" and finally arrived at "wait my melee's just a regular part of my kit that I can throw out and find success with"

in one game earlier not only did I break an iida's guard with melee alone at game start, but an AFO gamma's in front of my and I just punched him and turns out it was a down

so funny how when tuning released I had a bunch of people telling me not to bother with sisterly on kiri, but now it's so sick

that said, it's also making me even more aware of how busted sisterly is. on assaukt kiri it rewards skillful play - but on other characters it's so dumb

oh yeah it is a SKILL to proc it on anyone other than a downed player
tbh a lot of the time I just use sisterly to safely confirm a KO even when under fire
now I have started to figure out how to get a melee off mid-battle, but honestly I'm not even fully sure how... it's too new a skill for me to understand it yet lmao
anyways that's why I honestly don't feel that bad for using sisterly on kiri because it's not even remotely free - you only get sisterly up if you EARN IT

tho I will say once you start seriously using kiri's melee you kinda UNLOCK cause the full combo does 140 damage and it's a great tool to use while cycling your skills to avoid running out of them
it's a free punish if anyone uses a stationary move too close to you (my favourite is punching AFO who's just floating next to you) and just. SO satisfying to pull off

crushing PU charge probably has a better potential max output but I just don't pull the kinds of KOs to see it pop off, I'm much more a tank who helps contribute to total KOs than pulling them myself

Depending on how much tuning for gamma damage and hp damage buff damage I think it could be a free kill

For tuning I said 2 good fits in #tuns I’ll put them rq here,for a bit more explanation (because the pictures are not perfect) check on #tuning-builds and find my message it was very recent

For playing Kiri in general, there are 3 main techs that I think every red Kiri should know and they all essentially culminate to the same thing

1. Beta flying, holding beta in the air will keep your momentum and potentially launch you. Best used by jumping up with alpha and really quicking activating beta
2. Beta conservation, notably you can roll out of beta by dodging. This is instrumental in keeping your beta up at all times,and to keep it as a defense move remember his beta cool down is a complete charge not a trinket like kendo
3. Combos/move canceling. The thing to note mainly is alpha will always set up stun opportunities, and at any time can cancel into any thing else you don’t have to do the full slash attack

Right here imo is the definitive red Kiri combo, it’s simply a quick input of
Alpha, beta, alpha, beta. The core of this combo is when you betas someone, they can be caught by an alpha roll, and in that alpha roll you can do any move, beta is usually the most damaging

This means the ultimate core is that beta, into alpha, anything else is up to you depending on the situation. Only thing to note is that a full charged beta this won’t work

OKAY THIS GUY IS A BEAST, ONCE YOU GET GOOD AT HIM HE'S TERRIFYING

I've had plenty of people tell me I make assault kiri look like a high tier

I can 1v1 almost anyone inside a building and stand my ground against most of the cast, I love assault kiri so much

as for level order, you can basically do whatever you want and find success if it suits your playstyle
personally I go B4>G4>A4>B9>G9>A9 because beta having the most charges for attacks AND being vertical mobility is super useful. gamma for damage ofc and then alpha level 4 is good for that extra charge and more range for better mobility

core game loop with him is basically two main things

1. cycle your quirks! assault kiri struggles with slow recharges and not a lot of charges to begin with, so you need to keep cycling between your skills to try and avoid running out. at early levels you're more viable to run out, but at something like A4/B9/G9 I can basically infinitely cycle my quirks if I play it right
2. pseudo-combos! now assault kiri doesn't have ACTUAL combos, since all his moves end in a full knockdown. but what he does have are disgusting hitboxes on his beta and gamma, which give you the chance to predict someone's getup and hit them the first frame they become actionable. if you predict someone right you can full to zero them before they ever land a hit on you - but since it isn't a true combo you need to land every single hit on the virtue of your own predictions

I could literally talk about assault kiri all day he's like the most fun character I've ever played

if you're on pc I could even show you stuff in training mode if you wanted to see it in action

okay so it's a big combination of what KIND of getup they do, and the actual direction they're taking with it

cause you can either jump out of knockback or wait out the full getup animation. first is faster so if you predict a jump and they full getup then you're gonna whiff

now logically? there is literally no reason to jump out of knockback against assault kiri
BUT BASICALLY EVERYONE DOES IT ANYWAYS

it'll take some getting used to but eventually you'll start to get a feeling for how long i-frames last and know when to hit them
BUT
you don't wanna attack once they run out of i-frames
you want to attack right before they run out, so that they're already inside your hitbox when they lose i-frames

now his gamma is actually PERFECT for this because what you do is jump the moment they jump (or jump once they fullgetup) and then gamma midair - this gives you a boost upwards AND a ton of air control so you literally just follow them mid-air and your gamma lands around when they run out of i-frames

So predict when they'll lose I-frames and pop out a move at the correct timing so they get hit the moment they lose it, got it

people have said that if you aim right that it works, but I have NOT been able to make that happen. what I do is

• make my aim as best I can (you aim slightly right of your target)
• try to start it at a distance (if you only start damaging them on your 2nd to 4th hit it has a much better success rate)
• jitter between A/D to move side to side and stall kiri's movement enough to maintain the juggle
  it's still possible to mess up with this stuff, but it makes it work WAY better

I avoided sisterly for like three months because kiri's melee suuuuucks
but imo it's still worth it and I taught myself by starting somewhere important:
treat sisterly like it's gp sucker. do NOT expect to get it mid-fight, just get it as a reward for downing players. likewise grab a sisterly proc if a teammate downs someone, or if you just see a downed player anywhere. even under these conditions sisterly is really good
doing THIS will get you used to using kiri's melee, and help you start understanding how and when it hits (cause if you're anything like me you never used his melee before sisterly)
as you start getting used to it, you'll figure out how to punish people with it (like punching AFO sitting still for his attacks, or hitting a player you found healing)
and eventually with this you'll get good enough with his melee that you can start using it as a punisher mid-battle, or even predicting them to land it as they walk in front of you, tbh I'm already doing SICK stuff with his melee
it's not easy, and it's not good on its own - but just like assault kiri himself you can MAKE IT good

(plus I actually don't feel like a bad person for using sisterly on kiri because dude if I land a melee it's because I EARNED IT, THIS IS NOT EASY!)

like. it's actually potentially the highest damaging move he has available! if you can alpha someone against a wall or into a corner, it is GNARLY oh my god it's so mean
but other times, you hit them once and then you go flying past them to waste your entire charge
so while alpha is a REALLY good mobility tool (super armour WHILE moving so fast is underrated, it is a phenomenal get away tool, or to close the distance and get in close) the actual damage output is really circumstantial, and imo should be used more to stall out beta/gamma reload times than with intention to get every hit off

I'll admit I haven't been playing much so I don't have a great pool of evidence, most of the time it doesn't come up since if you die in a corner or smthn you just get killed on the spot
BUT earlier I took enough knockback to get pushed outside of battle and it helped me get up right before someone showed up to try adn confirm the kill, and the headstart let me actually run away and heal up - whereas I would've been a free kill were I still on the ground

tbh I'm well aware that crushing PU charge is probably the more consistent special to use, but I'm openly choosing speedy self-revive for the EMOTIONAL VALUE
for every time I've seen my down timer reach single digits only to get killed before I could actually get back up
every time my teammates are trying to keep opponents busy enough that I can get back up

HONESTLY assault kiri is very prone to being subject to his environment. there are just certain matchups where you can do your best and too bad, you're completely curbstomped
but imo it just means that you've got the melee bowser effect, where if you win it's because you're a god and if you lose it's because you're playing a bad character. great copium!

and I've got that like, doubled cause with my heart condition if you catch me during a flare up I'm like the worst assault kiri you've ever seen because my body decided it'd be hilarious if it stopped sending oxygen to my brain, but when I'm good I'm cracked

but I really do love sharing anytime I improve my assault kiri knowledge cause there ISN'T a lot of information about him!

god knows when I started playing I was like "hey can anyone help me with assault kiri?" and I basically didn't get any direct information so I was left to my own devices to figure it out myself

tbh he is so powerful once you get good with him, cause his moves are hard to land but once you do THEY HIT SO HARD

in general what I know of his hitboxes

• alpha on controller is actually nuts, once you make contact you'll land every single hit. but it can be hard to land the first few hits so try to start it a few steps away from your opponent so you can lead into them - tho if you can catch them near a wall it's even EASIER to land it
• his beta's hitbox is WAY bigger than you think it should be at higher levels, as long as you get near your opponents it'll probably get them
• then his gamma is INSANE, esp at max level as long as you're in the same zip code as someone you'll hit them

In a double banner his drop rate is likely to be cut in half from 1% to 0.5%, basically a character becomes astronomically difficult to obtain as time goes on and that’s horrid design plus a terrible gasha that does nothing but hurt this game
