A ton of packet loss on Xbox series X

Ok so, I am lagging a lot when I play multiplayer games, my ping spikes very randomly
In the xbox settings I can see the upnp being unsuccesful and the nat type being moderate which I think is also an issue?

I tried fixing those but cant figure it out.
I tried the following:

1. Changing DNS, I now use cloudfare DNS, which did reduce the lag by a bit but not by enough at all
2. I tried opening the settings of the router to see if the upnp option is disabled but it already is enabled

I rarely get error codes, I am able to log in, open games, and play, the issue lies behind the ping spiking
In fortnite for instance it sometimes randomly spikes up into the 100s, in rocket league it can also spike to 100+

Apparently alternate port selection could help (I think?) but idk how it works and there are plenty of possible ports so idk what to pick

I'd heavily appreciate a response as soon as possible, this has been an issue for me and my sister for years!

are you using a wired or wireless connection and is the lag only in fornite or all games?

Wireless, all multiplayer games are like this
I play fortnite, rocket league and Brawlhalla, all of them lag
Singleplayer games arent affected though

likely your wireless is just not good enough and dropping the NAT been moderate is not great but is only half of the picture. To improve your ping you need to use a wired connection and that should greatly improve things

Well, I do play other games on my phone, such as Supercell games, which are also multiplayer, but my ping doesn't spike there

For instance Brawl Stars or Clash Royale

So the only way to fix my issue on the xbox is to get a wired connection, e.g. an ethernet connection?

that is not the only way there is many ways to many to list you already tried a few things that you posted so clearly isn't the only way.

That is the most major thing you can do to reduce lag and improve connection. The issue with WIFI is that not always but can be fairly unstable, by using an ethernet connection your connecting right to the router

Hmm alright
I'd prefer tackling the UPnP issue without ethernet (if possible), since I do believe the main issue lies there.
It's kinda hard to explain but let's just say, I can't really set up an ethernet in my appartment 😭

why do you think its a UPNP issue? you said you logged into your router and its enabled correct?

Well yes but my Xbox still shows UPnP not succesful

What I meant is I rarely get message errors as in like a code or pop-up or such
If I manually go to network settings, yes I will see 2 errors
One being the moderate NAT, and the other being the unsuccesful UPnP

Not fully really, Idk how I didnt find this 😭
This seems very useful, I will try it first thing tommorow or tonight (I cant use my xbox or configure my router right now) and give you an update

no worries also since were here do you just have a all in one router and modem in one unit a (gateway) or do you have a modem and router?

if your unsure do you have one router unit or 2

One unit, shared by the family (which is partially why setting up an ethernet could be difficult)

if that link does not help then you will need to port forward, the best way to do that is in the router you set a static IP address for your xbox and then you forward xbox live ports to that IP.
