#Gamertag availability question

I used to have a gamertag back in the 360 era (then I changed it) which I now remembered because I found a very old clip.
Now I'd love to get that gamertag back for the memories but if I try to put it, xbox goes "This gamertag isn't allowed. Try a different one" and I'm confused with this because its not longer than 12 characters and it really has nothing wrong in it, my question is would it even be worth it to try and contact support? Have you done this or heard of something like this before?

yes, but if the gamertag isnt allowing you to select it then it isnt available thats all support can say they can not make it avaible or tell you why,

if you have that account still then you can log into that account or recover it. But if you changed GT then no doesnt matter. When a GT is changed it may or may not come available and thats it.
