Using the old 1713 model Xbox PC Wireless adapter for context. It happens with both of my controllers for some reason.
I was playing Amnesia: The Bunker on Steam and my controller just decided to shut off. I can power it back on, it will register, and then just immediately power back off. The Nexus button slowly dims out too, so I know it's not a battery issue.

Pulled up the keyboard and mouse and it won't even let me pull up the start menu. Thinking it's the game.

Just gonna do that for now lol, playing a custom workshop story with no save functionality so don't wanna restart my PC
