game seems to become a lot less forgiving fast. Even died a couple of times in the latest time I got to play which in games like Diablo isn't good for item durability (loss of 10% item durability on death! Which I find rather steep tbh)

hah, I know the squishy build feels. Took me idk how many attempts to kill one of the bosses some levels back but eventually got it, sure was annoying. I can't even remember the name of the boss but you will encounter them a fair few times and they summon some minions a projectiles that chase you dealing some pretty hefty damage. Those bosses frustrate me the most 😄

I'm far from an expert myself 😅 all of the stuff I know I learnt myself since getting into it back in 2016. Feel I have come a long way in that time with still plenty more to learn but most of it is fun! 
Diablo 4 makes me wish Diablo 3 had controller support but afaik it is only keyboard and mouse with the console version being the only one with any controller support 😦 Played the console version on the 360 a lot and really enjoyed it but found it difficult to get into the PC version because of keyboard and mouse

reached the beta level cap of 25 earlier and even managed to solo content that was 2-3 levels above my character. Barbarian build I am running really seems to be something. Got enemies damaging themselves, thorns hitting them and damage boosts. Even playing ranged against this build isn't safe. Really been enjoying it

barb is up in the enemies face all of the time though what I managed to create makes me a threat to even the ranged enemies as the thorns and damage back to enemies attacking me makes it almost impossible to kill me before they die. Only npcs that can challenge me are bosses and their absurd health bars but even they find out what it is like to be hit with their own attacks and thorns 😄
was trying to remember what I soloed earlier, it was the level 25+ stronghold. Final boss was definitely something but it's ultimate attack vs my combo can almost kill it in one go. That bosses health bar flew but also my health bar can too if I don't time skill activation just right
kind of wonder how much worse it is to fight a world boss and how effective my combo would be against it

that might have been the one I struggled with before. Summons minions, shoots projectiles that go on to chase you (and deal some pretty nasty damage) and also has an ability that can knock your character back and slow them down?

just completed a second stronghold solo. This one was ice clan and level 27+. Between the ice being able to freeze you solid for a few seconds and one enemy unit that can stun you they can be challenging but the build my barbarian runs once again showed them who is boss! 😄

That would be a nice thing to have on D3 for sure. I've been going back and playing D2R after getting to LV25 in the D4 beta. Playing on a controller is a lot of fun.

Really hope the game will support an offline mode so we can play without all the faff of the servers being overloaded etc. Really has become pretty annoying over the years for games like these to require a constant online connection when some prefer to play solo/local and that online presence is pretty much irrelevant yet in the event there are issues with the servers those players suffer 😦

I’d played on tier 1. Now I’m playing on tier 2 and I hit lvl13 before I even did any of the main quests (beyond getting to the city) lol

So it looks like you do need to do all of act 1, 2, and 3 main line quests to get the mount. I had skipped one of the quest lines in act 1 and 2, jumped to 3 and finished those, but now have nothing to advance at the moment. So I'm going back and doing the remaining act 1 and 2 quests

Sorcerers are usually OP but idk I can’t defeat ||vehnard|| or ||spirit caller of frost|| and I’ve respected 4 times. With Druid I died maybe once on the first when I didn’t know what was going on… but as a sorc I did 7 deaths on the first and 4 on the 2nd before giving up on each for now
I have zero trouble in the world and random dungeons but these bosses are totally wrecking me… I’ve respected to boring fire to see if that helps

Oh god so “blizzard” is a terrible choice for enchantment slot. It does a blizzard every 15 seconds even if you aren’t in combat. And it makes the booming sound effect each time. I’m not going to be able to deal with this!

For spirit to regen, you have to actually "hit" something. The random breakables in the world count as well, but kinda annoying it's not even just a passive regen out of combat

I guess as you level and unlock all the initial skills its then a case of just completing the skills? (1/5 becomes 5/5, where possible) as that would only further enhance stuff. I copied one of the Barbarian buiilds and at level 18 been able to fill skill slots fully, now just the small(ish) matter of levelling and further enhancing that build as I go. Already makes pretty light work of tier 2 so can't wait to see what level 50+ and tier 3 with all skills unlocked is capable of

You have a limited number of skill points to apply.
Some of the end-game builds won't have enough to put 5/5 in everything.

I like the idea of there being mystery chests in the Helltides, but the randomised nature is so ridiculously dumb.
I just spent 25 minutes running around trying to find one and nothing. Ended up spending on a nearby chest of protection which was a helm one for 75 and lost 150+ cinders as I didn't have time to get to another chest.

I've had two from maybe four Helltides.
They should always be available, maybe in just one position for the whole Helltide. Bump up the cost if they want to make it more difficult, but the randomised locations is super frustrating.

Just spent a bunch of time in a nightmare dungeon. Got in the final section and had to find/remove 5 blood boils. I got 4 and then the last one wouldn't spawn anywhere. Went round the entire map multiple times and nothing. 😒

They only stick around for a certain time, so you may have attacked as it was due to disappear.
They will also escape if you don't kill them quickly enough when they run away.

The upgrade system at this point is quite frustrating, too. Upgrades are so few and far between, but if and when I get one, I haven't found another that has the aspect I need to extract from it, so I can't use the upgrade without the vital imprint for my build.

I'm still getting used to left click is move, the amount of times I've fast travelled only to then click on the screen and accidentally enter my own portal again is insane lol

I found it easier to change the settings so that my abilities were separated from movement, so I could left click to move and then use a key for the power. That saved the need to hold shift to use my ability on left click.

As much as I like controller, certain abilities are better with KB&M because the auto targetting with controller is awful sometimes.

Yeah I keep attacking enemies instead of running past them too so I will look into the left click thing thanks. Or use a controller, I assume there is no auto attack so I can just run past them with ease? and not fall into my own portals lol

seems really strong what I've played of it so far since reaching level 50 (changed from a HotA - hammer of the ancients levelling build) and it has got me out of a lot of tough situations. Obviously got to work on a bunch of stuff to really make it work but I like what I have seen so far in its most basic form with no upgrades, aspects etc added to my gear
not planning to add those things until I'm level 70+ and in world tier 4. By which point I'll probably need them

aspect retrieval cost depends on the rarity and overall strength of the aspect
my highest rarity ones with best rolls cost 430k
The bigger issue I've had is not wanting to use a good roll on gear I know I'm going to replace, since once you imprint an aspect from your inventory, you can't reclaim it.
But if I find a 2nd, I'll use the lesser of the 2 on my current gear 🙂

okay yea for that 2nd part I was wondering about that... I have pulled like a half-dozen aspects out but haven't used any. It looked like it would be a single use type thing since they go in to the inventory instead fo that 'aspects menu thing that I forget the name of in your collections section' which seems weird

All the ones in the aspects menu portion of the collection are the same ones you can get in inventory, but the collection ones are always the worst possible rolls and will require more mats to imprint
the inventory ones are single use, will be cheaper to imprint, and will have whatever the roll of stats is 🙂

I'm struggling to do dungeons on WT2 now, but WT1 was too easy 😅 but gear drops aren't any better yet

I had to switch to WT1 for the very first two 'boss fights' probably from a combination of being under-geared at the time and having a bad build with whatever the balance was back then. Other than that, it has been all WT2 for me. On a few 'bosses' I have to really think about what's going on, but usually only die either none or a couple times if I'm being dense.
I did end up abandoning the build I was trying to create and just went with a 'basically all ice' sorcerer and that lets me just kablooey things all over the place
if I ever get in to that '50% cold ignore, 50% stun ignore' situation Laura was in then yea I'll be in trouble lol.
My active stuff is: Frost bolt, Ice Shard, Ice Armor, Deep Freeze, and then the5th is uaully Lightning Spear but I was playing with the Hydra a little just because I always used to love him in D3.
My two enchantment passives are: fireball, shatter

Early leveling, I bounced back and forth (yeah, it's not the easiest to compare), I'd basically equip wand + focus and then look at the staff to see if it was better

With wand and focus, you get twice as many stats to work with than a staff. the max of each one isn't as high as a staff, but it still gives you more flexibility
and lets you take 2 legendary aspects instead of one
(staff doubles the effectiveness of whatever legendary aspect you put on it)
to "make up" for it

make sure to try and unlock all the extra skill points through renown as that will give up to 6 additional skill points and I believe another 3 potions capacity, both of which are a great help post completion of the campaign and even follow you if you decide to make more characters (though you do have to level them and can choose to skip the campaign)

yeah but those are pretty steep. I think getting the first 3 renowns in each area without losing the plot is a good start 😄 by the time you get to doing the last 2 that require WT3 most likely won't have strongholds to do making them a bit grindy to reach
at least for me I'm level 55 and got all area renowns to the 3rd part fully unlocked but no more strongholds to do 😦
also, Albzi if you run a Barbarian I follow this build guide. https://www.icy-veins.com/d4/guides/whirlwind-barbarian-build/ Don't have a lot of the stuff and haven't upgraded gear or added gems to gear but honestly works pretty well as is. Put it this way, I rarely die before I can out damage just about any mob + elite already so fully optimized this build probably even makes light work of WT4 (when followed properly)

That’s what I was doing up until I really read the guide in depth, though it got to a point where I was rarely seeing any green + on drops and was either selling the gear or scrapping for new looks. There is definitely a lot to take in too
Only time the green “+” should be prioritized it seems would be with the main weapon (for this build in particular, 2H Swords) DPS then the stats it recommends from there (or as many as possible)

I've done a few Helltides now and a lot of the loot has been poor (at least when all I did was prioritize damage and armor stats) had maybe a handful of good drops. Seems a recent update nerfed loot stats or something but changing to focus on more specific stats is improving the build a lot

Yeah, you're at the point where you won't be seeing much upgrade wise and it starts coming down to finding gear with the right affixes that you're looking for. Getting to WT4 will help because you start seeing Ancestral. Helltides is also for enhancing materials only found during them, and not a too bad way to earn xp if you follow a group around
You can also target upgrade slots, or go for the mystery chests

I tried a new build last night. It's alright, but I'm not quite at a point I can push nightmare dungeons far beyond my level. I had to put in a bunch of unlevelled glyphs so need to do loads of dungeons to get them levelled up.

Forgot to mention yesterday. Save any remaining strongholds for WT4. If you get access to wt4 early, strongholds scale off of your level +2, not the minimum world level of 73 that wt4 is. We found that out

btw when doing the capstone thingy for WT4 early is it a bad idea to do or does the gear scale below 70 at WT4? So tempted just to ask someone to rush me through to WT4, as long as it doesn't then go lock me in with 70+ enemies and loot I can't use for another 13 levels lol

You'd run into gear that you can't use quite yet, I think ancestral is all 70+ on requirement to use? But the sacreds will generally have higher rolls on them

Yeah, the xp difference is nice lol. Mid 60ish the open world/non nightmare dungeon enemies stop being so difficult and by 70 it's fairly trivial in wt4 tbh
Plus, you can always bounce between wt4 and 3 as find what you can do in wt4

Also the Sacred nightmare dungeons up to tier 20 can only be done in WT3. Ancestral of tier 21+ are only accessible in WT4

and since i use an iphone or ipad when I'm on my console, there is a 3rd party app that just wraps that site. Works a bit better than just using the straight safari tab

I gave it a go fighting some of the enemies while Eris was making light work of them. I kind of have to stack some shouts and stuff to let the Barb whirlwind shine but when it does even level 70 enemies have to watch out (elites and bosses just soak it up like a sponge lol) but thanks again, Eris! So glad to get that out the way. Hopefully won't be too long before i can help some in return myself 🙂

silly me, I was away getting points for the tree of whisper rewards and wondered why the enemies were tougher... was fighting them on WT4 😄 Though all things considered regular enemies I done alright with but those damage reduction ones and anything named (bosses, elites etc) I was toast or it was a case of "does it die first or do I run out of potions and die?" but I did eventually get enough for some rewards and they were rubbish lol
