Hi. I'm playing on desktop PC with Windows 10 and I'm looking to replace my Xbox 360 Wired Controller which finally gave out after 11 years of great service.

The problem is I'm not quite sure if I know what to buy so I came here to validate if what I've found out so far seems legit.

  1. Xbox Series X/S Wireless Controller (gamepad itself)
  2. Xbox Play and Charge Kit USB (original from Microsoft, contains accumulator and USB-C cable so that I can charge while playing
  3. Here's the problem. My desktop PC doesn't support Bluetooth by itself. So my plan was to buy a Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter for PC (W10). Except it's out of stock literally everywhere I checked and the only place I've found it is used ones on auctions, and I don't want a used one. I've done some research and I've found out that basic Bluetooth 5.0 dongle should be enough. I found something called Baseus BA04 Adapter. Do you think it will work? Or would you suggest buying some other adapter here?

I will be glad for any tips and suggestions.

Hi guys, I have had an annoying problem with forza 5: when I get on to the game it gets to the loading screen and before I have a chance to press continue it crashes and on Sunday or Monday I don't remember it crashed 3 times then uninstalled its self I am running windows 11 and it was working perfectly fine on extreme graphics settings before with no issues other than teredo which I managed to fix can anyone tell me what is going on.

DualSense is currently cheaper than a DualShock 4 due to the chip shortages and PS5s not being widly available.

You need to use it through remote play on Windows but I have a very fast and stable wired network connection so I don't get any input lag.
Saved me 35€ and allows me to use the newer more comfortable controller! :D
I actually tested it with a slowmo cam and it has less delay via remote play than an actual PS4 wireless controller has

CPU: Went with the 5700X as it is better value than AMD's 5800X that I can no longer recommend unless it can be found cheaper than the 5700X. Still very much the same 8 core CPU, just with a slightly lower clock speed that may only lower performance in game by 1-2% in most instances.
CPU Cooler: Have this cooler myself and it is impressive. Not sure how well it will keep an 8 core CPU cool since I have a 6 core 5600X but while gaming my CPU hardly ever exceeds 70C.
Motherboard: This one is subjective. All depends on the features you are looking for but with Ryzen 5000 I'd recommend either a B550 or X570 motherboard. The pick I made also has wifi if that is needed.
Memory: Ryzen CPUs (with the exception of the 5800X 3D) love fast memory so I went with 3600MHz with a CL16 timing. That tends to be the optimal choice in terms of speed, timing and compatibility for Ryzen 5000 CPUs and 32GB to ensure memory (RAM) shouldn't be much of an issue while gaming and multitasking.
Storage: Here I went 2TB but you could drop to 1TB if you don't need 2TB and the WD Black SN850 is one of the fastest gen 4 NVMe SSDs out there.
Video Card: I don't usually pick a halo tier GPU but seeing how crazy Nvidia prices were reporting this comes out extremely good value and is a monster of a GPU!
Power Supply: One component to NEVER cheap out on. I checked on the GPU vendor's product page what they recommend and it said 950W so I just rounded it up to 1000W and selected SeaSonic. Should give a great warranty and it is a power supply that will last a few system upgrades.
Only component I couldn't select was a case as there is so much to choose from but with a system like this I'd look out for one with great airflow to help keep things running cool

How hard is it to run at 60fps at ultra at 21:9 1440p ?

well it would be a little more demanding than how I have my system set up right now (monitor being 16:9 1440p) most of the games I play at maxed settings (minus ray tracing) I tend to get close to, if not exceeding 100 FPS in most games. There are a few exceptions and the occasional instances in some games where I may drop below that but if I was to go ultrawide (21:9 1440p) I'd imagine my system can still maintain well above 60 fps in most games.
My system specs for some idea btw. Ryzen 5 5600X, 32GB DDR4 3600MHz ram, 6800 XT Red Devil and a 1TB Adata XPG 8200 Pro gen 3 NVMe SSD

another thing I will say is make sure the games you play support ultrawide 21:9. Not all do and will result in letterboxing which may put you off

as long as you aren't running something like the 12900KS for a CPU where it's PL2 state is said to pass 250W itself I don't think you really have anything to worry about. These minimum system power requirement is mostly there to cover vendors since PC gaming has thousands of possible configurations and iirc Nvidia did go into some detail on the system they based their requirements on, which did include the top Intel i9 around the time of the 3090's release

idk about the 5900X but my 5600X runs fine at stock though if anything while monitoring some of the parameters related to PBO (PPT, TDC and EDC) through Radeon Software's metrics OSD I find the stock limits may actually be holding back the 5600X a little in games. Though from what I've heard PBO doesn't really offer much, if anything in terms of performance gains

My Xbox Series S controller (the Forza 5 one) is a pain to connect to my PC with bluetooth, and when it does actually connect, it only stays connected until I hit a button on the controller and then disconnects immediately, I have tried updating it, but it didn't help.

Try deleting both of them again, unplug your bluetooth adapter, plug it back in and then try pairing them again.
That always helped me if any of my Bluetooth Controllers did not pair correctly. I’ve also had it happen with both Xbox and PS Controllers. It‘s just Windows messing up sometimes

If your bluetooth is internal and no adapter restart your device instead but delete the controllers before doing that

Preliminary rumors from trustworthy sources have said the RX 7600 XT could plausibly outperform the RX 6900 XT. So yes, the 7800 XT being 50% more powerful than the 6800 XT is definitely plausible.

mhm same. While IPC gains are said to be around 10% overall uplift is said to be around 35%. Which doesn't quite reach the performance uplift I'd be looking at to potentially upgrade (at least 50% better than a Ryzen 5 5600X while gaming at 1440p and eventually 4K)

Alder Lake has some issues from what I heard with games recognizing the e cores and some anti cheat systems being confused with it or something. Can't remember the specifics but it sounded pretty bad when I heard about it

Game is using what it has to to run (or try to) at the settings specified by the user (you) though I will say 90% CPU usage seems a bit high at 1440p ultra. That should be GPU bound territory where the GPU it brick walled at 99%, 100% of the time or close to and CPU usage down around 50-60% max, if that

I'd just leave it stock no PBO or game boost motherboard feature and while gaming you might want to disable hardware acceleration in Discord so it doesn't lower performance while gaming and it may help to lower that high CPU usage you are running into a little too

base clock is the minimum all cores will achieve. Think of it as a worst case scenario for a CPU you buy. When you see say 3.8GHz base and 4.2GHz boost all CPU cores try to target that 4.2GHz and most will but there may be some CPUs that struggle to reach that for a number of different reasons but will still operate just fine with the base clock speed

in terms of specs and the tier it is in, not likely that powerful unfortunately but it should have the added bonus of being able to use technologies like Nvidia DLSS and AMD's FSR in supported games to squeeze some extra performance out. Just don't be expecting to run ray tracing or that with it

Bought Deliver us the Moon and had hoped to give the ray tracing side of it a try but keeps crashing on my PC from a few searches I done it seems AMD GPU owners got no love but oddly this crashing isn't just limited to DirectX 12 with ray tracing. I can't even access DirectX 12 version without it crashing 😦

Downloaded Wolfenstein Youngblood to check out again and I'm a bit disappointed that the devs were able to remove Denuvo (yay!) but not allow AMD GPUs to use ray tracing features or even support FSR 1.0/2.0. Said Denuvo removal patch was back in March this year so it's not like the game's development has been dead for a while

I'm well aware of that but it would appear I have found two games that don't want to play nice with AMD hardware that supports ray tracing. Either by crashing and refusing to open when selecting DirectX 12 with ray tracing (Deliver us the Moon) or not including the option within graphics settings (Wolfenstein Youngblood)

Probably. AMD’s ray tracing tech is still a generation behind NVidia’s. The RX 6950 XT does ray tracing as well as an RTX 3070, if that puts it in perspective.

I remember when I owned a GTX 1080 Ti and shortly after Nvidia launched the RTX 20 series there were games I could play where I could somehow enable ray tracing with otherwise unsupported hardware. Metro Exodus being at least one such title I could do this in. Granted the framerate was terrible and it was probably some ploy to get GTX owners at the time to jump to RTX. At this point Nvidia are capable of anything but yeah, if a GPU with no RT cores or built in solution can somehow run a game with ray tracing enabled I don't see why AMD hardware has to miss out

Days Gone is actually pretty good imo. Plays really well on PC, as do pretty much all the other PS games that have come to PC. Arguably the better version of these games with the uncapped framerate, ultrawide support (1440p support too, Sony!) and proper VRR support. Should just label all the Playstation PC ports as "definitive edition" since they also include all the DLC on top of these improvements

How do I swap my xbox app profile? It automatically signs me into the wrong profile, there is no remove profile option, when I sign out and sign in it auto signs me in, when I uninstall and reinstall I have an option that says not you? switch account, I click it and it auto signs me into the wrong account again.

i play minecraft java on chrome os with the debain linux option and its all great (well not all) you see the latest version of the game or any above 1.10.2 just craches the minute I press play, I have an intel celeron and a hp chromebook 11 g6 ee, I've enabled a ton of flags (no i didnt just spam enable on a bunch) and that just help me fps wise if anyone knows another way I can improve performance it would help.

I need to rebuild my pc after a motherboard failure. Shame as I had/have a Ryzen 7 2700X, and getting a decent motherboard that supports it now is more than I wanna spend on an old platform.

wait, I'm confused. You said getting a decent motherboard that supports the 2700X is going to cost more than you want to spend on an old platform yet you want to go and buy into a whole new platform with a new CPU? 2700X is supported by A320, A520, B350-550 and X370-570 and it doesn't really cost a great deal to get a new motherboard that'll support the 2700X. Most can run 3950X and 5950X and they are 16 core CPUs. Very few exceptions that can't but I'd outright avoid those anyway and a company like Asrock I'd definitely avoid for motherboards. Hardware Unboxed have done a number of motherboard round up videos that I'd say are worth the watch (and you'll see why I suggest avoiding Asrock)

I've heard that some motherboards may have removed support for some CPUs but I didn't think the 2700X would be one of them and even then. If AMD can add support to A320, B350 and X370 motherboards for Zen 3 (Ryzen 5000) CPUs I don't see why 1st gen Ryzen can't be supported on the latest A520, B550 and X570 motherboards

ok, that is interesting. My Asus B550 Strix E doesn't officially support Zen or Zen+ CPUs. Thanks for making me aware of this and sorry I didn't believe it. I was under the impression that B550 could support something as old as say the 1800X. Besides PCIE 4.0 support being disabled on detection for Zen and Zen+ CPUs I don't get why it couldn't happen. B550 would have VRMs that are more than capable of handling the older CPUs since they are build for Zen 2 and Zen 3. If anything Zen 2 and Zen 3 CPUs running on B350 should be more problematic since B350 was designed for Zen CPUs at least (with support added after Zen+ released but they had B450)

Another thing is I want Windows 11 support. With 2700X support, you either get 2700X support or Windows 11 support, not both. This is despite the 2700X being on the Windows 11 compatibility list.
It’s just easier to move to a new platform.

I'm still seeing some conflicted reports on it though. Could be some motherboards do support older Ryzen CPUs but it would appear they have to have 32MB BIOS ROM with the boards that have 16MB being the ones that had to drop support

yeah, it is a grey area. More recent BIOS updates may have removed support for the older CPUs but the motherboards with the larger ROM may have maintained the support, just that it won't show officially. Awkward 😅

rooPog1 looks like Forza Horizon 5 is set to get support for TAA on PC. If there was one thing I wasn't too fond of with FH titles it was the anti aliasing options. Guess this is also going to open the door to technologies like FSR 2.0 and DLSS in the not too distant future too since iirc TAA is somewhat of a precursor/requirement to both technologies. Part of me then wonders if we are also going to see ray tracing go beyond just forzavista if DLSS and FSR 2.0 arrive

DF testing has fallen off hard during the pandemic to the point i dont trust them anymore. Multiple tikes theyve tested games on inferior pc hardware and using wrong settings because they aim for their own personal things rather than targets like fps, fidelity, resolution etc

if I had the time to do it I'd be targeting the best settings for maximum fidelity while maintaining native resolution and greater than 60 fps. Some settings in PC games are just unnecessary imo. Especially when some have shown there is very little or no graphical improvement yet the hit to framerate is huge that it takes a higher end GPU to mitigate that cost. Excluding ray tracing options one of the biggest hitters I've seen in recent games is volumetric fog

only thing that suggests to me is that you may be using Windows High performance power plan/mode if so change it to balanced and I believe there is an option within the Nvidia control panel related to power where selecting max performance might also have the GPU behave this way. Leave it on adaptive and it should be like balanced where the GPU will use the power where necessary otherwise it will fall down to lower speeds and allow for lower idle temperatures

you should try seeing what linking temperature limit and power limit while prioritizing temperature does and setting it to max. Should only activate while gaming giving you a little boost in performance while using a bit more power - though the GPU will try to target 90°c if it can boosting until those limits are hit

also, now you shouldn't have to worry about setting some custom fan curve. The one set out the box should be alright. GPU will get hot while under any gaming load but that is by design.
Default fan curve on my 6800 XT's OC BIOS I can still keep that GPU below 75°c while it runs at some 2300MHz+ and consumes 280W (up to 322W if I set power limit to max, +15%)

finally got around to checking out Fallen Order again and even found something that unlocks the framerate past what the in game option allows though it still seems limited to 200 FPS. Better than the default 144 FPS that my GPU was hitting even at 1440p and all epic settings. Noticed 170 FPS in some spots so my efforts to find something to unlock the FPS on this game was worth it rooHappy1

it required a command console unlocker and to type a command that set the framerate to 0 (unlocked) but the game still seems to have an upper limit of 200 FPS on it. Was just when it was being talked about some time ago I thought I'd give it a quick search to see if there was a way to uncap the framerate. Just happy there was but it took a bit of searching for the right thing and a bit of testing to get it right but now any other unreal engine game with a similar refresh rate limit (144 in Fallen Order's case) I can now effectively uncap. Though I am aware with some games there may be issues doing that

ultra-extreme may be a bit on the high side for the 3060. Sounds like it is struggling to keep up but also has me wonder what storage you got with that laptop. If it is a HDD that may be what is causing things to look ugly. Slower read and write speeds means more pop in and textures taking longer to load. I'd also suggest turning off the MSAA setting if it is set to anything other than off already and trying the new TAA option. Keep the sharpness at the default of 5 but yeah, you might have to lower some settings to help performance and your storage

SSD should be able to load textures etc fast enough to where pop in isn't much of an issue or to the point it is non existent. As for TAA in terms of the in game anti aliasing options available:
FXAA is the lowest quality and overall a pretty dated form of AA and may cause some blurriness around the edges.
MSAA can be pretty taxing on hardware, even with how optimized it may be in FH5 the cost it has from 2x will be greater than that of FXAA while providing a better image.
TAA should be an improvement on FXAA with the blurriness with a slightly bigger hit too but less than that of MSAA.

seems the TAA sharpness slider also makes use of AMD's FidelityFX CAS (contrast adaptive sharpening)

ok, found it. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1915655496 after I downloaded the universal unreal engine 4 console unlocker (what a mouthful!) I followed waht was mentioned in the guide and then using the tilde key (above tab key "~") and then typed t.MaxFPS 0 which effectively removes the framerate limit - though it is hard capped it would appear by the game engine to 200 FPS but it at least is an improvement over the in game 144 FPS limit

@sleek agate btw, if you do get Dying Light 2 you will probably find the game performs better while using DirectX 11 rather than DirectX 12/Ultimate (I don't see why they had to add a separate option for DX12 Ultimate) but that would then disable ray tracing though imo you aren't really missing much with ray tracing disabled. Dying Light 2 still looks pretty good and should play pretty well. If you want to use ray tracing though don't be surprised if you are having to then set DLSS to performance mode to get it back to a playable game (oh and sorry for the ping)

For DLSS, depending on the game, I recommend quality and ultra quality for target resolutions around 1080p. 1440p performance or quality, and anything higher (4K or 2160p) use performance mode, if you want RT effects at ultra settings and 60fps

Also I should caveat that last statement with dependence on your RTX card. Not sure how it skews on the lower end but 3070 and up handles 1440p DLSS performance/quality quite well

Is your PC an all-in-one where the monitor contains everything? If not, then you can typically plug the XBOX into a monitor, but not into the PC. The only way to plug it into the PC would be if you had something called a capture device. They are not cheap.
