A question which might be dumb.... why do some RTX 3080's only have 10GB GDDR6 yet some RTX 3060's can come with 12GB GDDR6?

3080 has both 10GB and 12GB GDDR6X options which is faster than GDDR6. Both also feature memory buses that are wider than the 3060's 192 bit bus (3080 10GB is 320 bit and 12GB is 384 bit) think of the memory bus like a motorway. The more lanes it has the more traffic (or in this case, data) can pass

try going into the nvidia control panel and selecting that 144hz display. I have no idea about multi monitor setups but it may be that you have to set a primary display and maybe the control panel set it to the other display

btw is this after clean installing windows? if not there is a program I can suggest that will help clear drivers and should allow you to install the driver you need with no issues

just catching up with chat but I used to do this and other "gamer tweaks" but in the end it was likely causing more issues than good. My windows 11 experience is pretty much stock besides the addition of chipset and GPU drivers

They are as important as the GPU driver. CPU will run optimally that way. I'm a bit of a sucker for keeping everything up to date, even if the list of known issues is bad lol

another thing, HAGS (hardware accelerated GPU scheduling) is an odd feature. You won't have noticed it before since AMD have never had the feature enabled (idk why) even on their latest RX 6000 series GPUs. There was one GPU driver they released last May that provided support for it but hasn't been added to future drivers since. As for what it does I'm not entirely sure but it sounds like it takes away some of the software level scheduling and puts it on the GPU so those sorts of tasks should be completed a lot faster

yeah, it has been around for Nvidia GPUs since the early days of the RTX 20 series I believe and was supported on GTX 10 series GPUs too. I remember enabling it on my 1080 Ti but as for the feature itself not a lot has really been talked about on it and as I said in my last message about it, I don't get why AMD GPUs (or their drivers) don't seem to support this feature properly

that would be one of a few reasons for it not to be available. The other being AMD hardware already does this at a higher level and so would render that option useless but idk about that. I may know a bit on this stuff but I'm far from some PC wizard hehe 😅

oh btw @sleek agate since you have an RTX 3060 I think you'll be able to make use of another cool feature where you may receive a further boost in performance. Resizable bar. It's an option found in the motherboard's BIOS and I'm not completely sure if any additional steps are required on Nvidia GPUs

ok, on my Asus B550 Strix-E I have a toggle for it on the top right, next to Search (F9) and AURA (F4) named Resize Bar. If your motherboard doesn't have that press F9 and type Above 4G Decoding and enable it. After that there may be another option that shows up Resize BAR support that shows as auto on my motherboard.

hmm might be your motherboard doesn't support the feature or that you need to update the bios for it to show - though I wouldn't update it to a beta version, wait for the latest bios to not show as beta or if bios version is really old update to the last non beta bios. Latest non beta version bios update for your motherboard appears to be version 5606

something I forgot that you may want to check before updating the BIOS if you haven't already is that it won't lose support for your current CPU. Idk why but I seem to remember something about some motherboards having to ditch support for older AMD CPUs to make way for newer ones but surely such a change would be documented in the changelist by Asus.
At the same time though you seem on a pretty recent version if you are running windows 11 as that required fTPM to be enabled, version 5606 for your motherboard just sets that automatically so no one has to manually do it so think of that as an optional update if anything

Hey, anybody here know how to help with AMD Radeon

I'm having issues with my integrated A10-7800 Radeon R7

coz my TV cuts off the edge of the screen I had to install adrenalin so I could use HDMI scaling but whenever I go full screen or borderless it inverts the colours

Also my audio is being dumb, I have my PC connected up to my TV with HDMI and the pc isn't detecting any audio peripherals but it was working fine earlier

stock settings are usually best if you want stability. Some games may not play well with overclocks and as most should know, overclocking hardware causes temperatures to rise for what in most cases will be minor gains

DirectStorage being one but also I hear an update or refresh of fullscreen optimizations is coming (is in dev channel I believe) and is said to further improve performance on games that use windowed or borderless

uh oh. Yeah 110c I believe is CPU shutdown temperature. with a lower limit of around 90-95c that will start to see the CPU throttle to try and prevent itself from getting hotter. That would likely indicate cooling wasn't adequate since it was able to reach that sort of temperature

well the exact air cooler I have is the Arctic Freezer 34 esports duo and I can recommend it for sure having seen how it keeps my 5600X cool. Even when I tried running it with PBO it kept temperatures below even the lower limit (95c) but much like overclocking I wouldn't recommend enabling PBO. Run whatever Ryzen 5000 CPU you upgrade to stock. They don't really need any tweaking

same cooler but completely stock running CPU temperature hardly goes above 70c

I think call of duty will try to use close to all VRAM available on a GPU. There is a setting within graphics that will allow you to allocate up to 90% VRAM or something like that. Can be toggled to other amounts too iirc

I used to complain a lot like that when I played call of duty. There was one move I caught some doing was like they were strafing and my shots were not hitting. Pretty much like something out of the matrix... Also, yeah. I hated campers too. Go on a killstreak only for some rotten camper to take it all away. You watch the killcam and they were hiding some place real silly you should have spotted. console raytracing is still helped along with optimization and lower graphics settings and/or resolution. If ray tracing was better optimized I'd be able to play games with it enabled and not have it completely murder performance on a GPU that is close to 2x more powerful than a Series X. By all means I sure hope ray tracing can be better optimized but the hit is just too heavy and not worth it at this time. I still game at maxed settings (minus ray tracing) and get great performance - what I expect (and more) in most titles

Over 50% performance hit for some added realism. If a 6900 XT can barely manage 35 FPS at 1440p there is no chance either console is running ray tracing without compromises past 1080p and even then I wouldn't be surprised if dynamic resolution is put to use

the fairer comparison would obviously be 5700 XT vs 6700 XT though and the faster clock speeds and 50% extra vram definitely help the 6700 XT beat the 5700 XT. Maybe not enough for someone to buy it if they owned a 5700 XT but 6700 XT is the baseline for GPUs I recommend to others from AMD. The rest below that definitely lack. Just glad pricing is finally improving so 6700 XT are becoming more available and closer to the price people should have been paying for them at launch

I tried using PBO and unlocking the power limit on my system. Before CPU would cap out at around 76W and GPU 280W. With those limits removed 106W on the CPU and 322W on the GPU. Funny thing is my CPU only seems to need to use PBO with games a little but it's like the CPU has been truly unlocked. No real gain to performance to be shown but the use of PBO and maxing out the power % slider should allow for more stable CPU and GPU clock speeds

something I don't quite understand though. In some games I don't see my GPU using its full power. Like it will say GPU usage 99% yet power draw 200-260W when it has up to 322W to draw from now. Games I've noticed it with Forza Horizon 5 and Far Cry 6, the latter being the worst of the two

I'm well aware of that. For the most part I've kept my 5600X and 6800 XT stock and thought I'd see what they can do with power limits increased is all. Might give undervolting a try next. tried it in FH5. Probably not the best game to test it since even completely stock i don't see it using the 280W my 6800 XT has. Usually sits around 240-260W. Kept the clock speed stock but reduced voltage (mV) from 1150 to 1050 and to my surprise it seemed fine. To the point voltage reported actually dropped below 200W at times. Tried 1000 mV and it crashed there so i guess I'll have to lower clock speed to get it to 1000 mV and lower

I still don't understand this. Where is the proof? As far as I can tell the performance is much greater on most of the RX 6000 series GPUs. 5700 XT vs 6700 XT alone is around a 20% difference and as I said earlier that could well increase some more in games that exceed 8GB VRAM. Where the 5700 XT will be limited, the 6700 XT and its 12GB won't be. The gap just increases after that.

Another thing though is that the 6X50 XT refreshes mostly just seem to be memory speed increases (18gbps vs 16gbps) and I think on the 6750 XT there is a clock speed increase too but none of that really seems impressive enough to consider an upgrade imo. Personally I'd rather wait for the RX 7000 series and opt for at least the 7800 XT. That is where huge performance increases will be found again with the 7700 XT reportedly faster than the 6900 XT

AFAIK in the 8 core AMD CPUs the 5700X is the better choice and reportedly uses less power than the 5800X (65W vs 105W) so shouldn't be as difficult to cool as the latter was often claimed to be and in some testing I've seen somehow the 5700X may actually perform slightly better than the 5800X, which is kind of odd

I might hold off upgrading my CPU until the performance gain from doing so is double. Not sure how good/bad an idea it is but considering I'm on a 5600X right now it shouldn't take too long to get there after AM5 CPUs release. Definitely won't be Zen 4. Doubts about Zen 5 but beyond that maybe. Would also be targeting a higher core count next CPU upgrade too. 8 cores minimum and Intel CPUs will also be considered when the time comes

They don't tend to be all that demanding, even after all their graphics settings are cranked to the max

My pc case fans and aio fans all stopped suddenly all the rgb lights stayed on except the aio block I turned off the pc and back on and then I lost my display does anyone know what happened?

I did, and it turned the screen turned off for like 8mins, but my keyboard and pc's rgb didnt turn off, and the fans were spinning, and then my power went out

This was dorectly after a gpu drover update btw

I find the more immersed in a game I am the more likely it is I will get motion sick. I know how to minimize it, but sometimes I have to take meds/take a few days off gaming
