Honestly if the computer keeps working you are probably fine. The only reason I asked (and I must've misremembered) is that everything in the case contributes to some extent to the heat of everything else. Hot air from one part makes it harder to air-cool other parts.

Are you using the stock cooler on CPU?

There's a few tips to improve things. You can try to improve airflow through the case. You're looking to create a continuous flow from front to back with fans that pull at the front, and push at the back / top.

And then cable management influences airflow a little.

Replacing a stock CPU cooller will knock off a few degrees there.

And last but not least, clean your fans. The way to do that is with compressed air, but you should stop the fan blades from rotating while you do that, and only blow gently.

Excess free rotation is bad for the fans.

A thick blanket of dust serves as a great insulator, so if you can clean off as much of that as possible, you will see a small improvement.

stock coolers that come with CPUs are usually really bad. I'd highly recommend getting another cooler. Personally I went for the Arctic freezer 34 esports duo and on my 5600X under a gaming load it sits below or around 70c.
New case may also help as the H510 iirc doesn't seem to be that good for airflow. Idk, maybe I'm wrong but isn't it the one with one top fan? top usually being exhaust

I honestly can't remember which fans are exhaust but I'm like 90% sure the back and Top fans are exhaust while the front ones are intake

nice, so your experience will be similar though temps do seem a bit on the high side, even with a stock cooler. Ask your dad if you can to check and see if PBO has been enabled and if so disable it. See if that helps temperatures

PBO is precision boost overdrive. An AMD overclocking setting. It can allow your CPU to boost further though at the cost of temperature. Stock is good on AMD CPUs. So I don't think you'll have to worry about PBO being enabled

check power plans, again you might not have touched this either but make sure it is set to balanced or with Ryzen 3000 CPUs I believe there is also Ryzen balanced if you have installed the chipset drivers

at 82c the CPU may be hitting the soft limits AMD set and if so you might find it throttling. I'd definitely give the fans in your case a check to make sure they are the right way and stuff and if that doesn't improve things look at a new CPU cooler. Should that not improve thing either look at a new case

it's not bad since they are known to run at that temperature ok but isn't good either. Peak performance you want to stay clear of any temperature limits (soft or hard) to avoid stuff like throttling and other issues it may bring (crashing, perhaps)

I know this is a basic thing, but how sure are you that you applied the thermal compound well? Too much is bad, you only need the tiniest amount. If the compound isn't applied right, that impairs the cooling a lot.

I have a couple of questions. My PSU has just died, is it likely to have taken the motherboard / everything with it? It would be cool if I could just replace the PSU, but who knows?

I'll preface this with I'm speaking from my personal experience, and this is NOT speaking for Microsoft, but given the privacy controls I as a dev have to go through to add ANY telemetry to the product, we are absolutely not doing anything like that. It's more along the lines of "Oh, you had a blue screen? What was the stop code and faulting module + version? That way we can determine if it's a Microsoft binary or 3rd party, and if Microsoft binary, hopefully go fix it.

Or "Hey, what windows updates do you have installed, so when we release a patch, we know what the uptick rate is and can judge the impact of any bugs that might be found in that, if it has to be pulled down or just fixed in another update, etc."

There is absolutely no amount of "let's track everything you type and spy on your DMs or random stuff in random programs"

I actually did it myself the first time, but that was uhh, a younger version of me and it was hard enough then. I'm not sure if you're aware, but the recent versions of the Hyper 212 (Evo v2, Black Edition) have a greatly improved mount. The old one was pretty terrible IMO. the little pin you have to position in the centre and just hope, just prey that it stays there until you get the four screws aligned.

it's because it's not technically true OLED, it's a different tech than what LG is doing with their OLEDs. the difference is probably an exercise in pedantry, but that explains why it is considerably less expensive than LGs OLEDs, and in practice the difference doesn't seem to matter because that monitor appears outstanding

the PG32UQX was the 4k 144hz with 1152 miniLED zones i believe, and like any tech, when it's brand new and cutting edge, it's prohibitively expensive and then it goes down in price, given where that panel was positioned when it was released and all the tech it packed i think the pricing was right, but like when we're not having a GPU shortage and two years later the super high end GPUs are outperformed by the lower tier GPUs and as a consequence very affordablwe

miniLED is considerably more expensive to manufacture than OLED and in this case the QDOLEDs

your C1 is true OLEDs and is definitely not a silly purchase, it's like anything in tech, at what point do you actually pull the trigger? cuz any time you pull the trigger on what you want, there will be something newer and better coming out after you got yours...so do you just wait forever knowing that there's always new tech coming around the corner? or do you just buy what you want and enjoy it (obviously this logic doesn't apply if there's a new gen of CPUs or GPUs coming out in a couple months, in that case, I would wait)

like i remember when i was doing my skylake build in 2015 or whatever and consumer NVMe drives were just popping up, I think I spent $400 on a 256GB 950 pro and now i have three 1TB 970 evo+s that cost less than that one drive

also fear not because if alienware is releasing these monitors, then the panel itself will be available to others to put in their own panels...i.e., you'll see asus/acer offering a monitor with the QDOLED panels soon, and they'll surely offer a non-curved/16:9 panel with the QDOLEDs

i've spent close to $3k USD on panels in the last three or four years, which is entirely my own fault, but i still wasn't sold on OLEDs with static images. I'm still reluctant to embrace, perhaps irrationally reluctant, but these are bringing me around

well after a bit more googling, whatever article that I read first which implied to me that the QDOLEDs weren't actual OLEDs conflicts with everything I have been reading in the last few minutes, regardless of how QDOLED and OLED actually differ, those are very compelling monitors, and for most people who game on their PCs at a desk, i think it would be far more comfortable to game with a large monitor than a small TV on your desk

that first article made it seem like samsung was just calling them OLEDs in marketing material, and not actual OLEDs, but that does not appear to be accurate

i'll likely be selling my xb32 and getting one of those QDOLEDs but i can't stand curved monitors and I would rather patronize Asus or Acer, so I'll be waiting

I've still to get my LG OLED paired up to my PC. As hesitant as I have been, I was informed not to be so worried about doing it. As long as screen brightness isn't 100% all of the time (which outside of HDR content, it won't be) I should be fine for some time on the whole ghosting part. If anything adjusting to the 48" screen and 4K gaming may be my biggest issue

Especially with the rumoured 144Hz, yes it’s marginal increase over 120 but it’s a step forward to even higher refresh rates from displays / monitors and will continue to drive down input lag, which still can’t match the best monitors

Someone did a test and it took 3600 hours of a static image for burn in to happen.

Freesync and gsync can also help with screen tearing and you don't need to enable vsync while having either of those active. Compared to vsync both are adaptive so screen tearing will be eliminated in almost its entirety. Few exceptions being where framerate exceeds a monitor's refresh rate and at least with AMD's Freesync there is a feature with more recent Freesync supported monitors called LFC (low framerate compensation) that will extend a monitor's minimum range and keep latency low while also keeping screen tearing away. Not sure if the same applies to gsync compatible monitors but those with gsync hardware modules in their monitors support right down to 1Hz so again, screen tearing is effectively eliminated
