just keep in mind a framerate cap might not be the best option for every game so don't go setting it globally. You can see framerate and frametime as a graph that will show how stable it all is through MSI Afterburner's OSD settings and RTSS. Ideally you want that graph to be flat I believe and if it is not try capping framerate until it is

and make sure vsync is disabled too. If you have a display that supports AMD's Freesync or Nvidia's G Sync you don't really need vsync. All that does is limit the FPS to the refresh rate of your monitor but in doing that adds some latency. What I mentioned above, the framerate cap with flat graph doesn't introduce latency and should instead make for a smoother gaming experience

laptops kinda get warm regardless do they not? the whole far less area for heat to move around and airflow to assist in expelling it and whatnot. Throw in a high performance GPU and I'd think it is very difficult to expel that hot air and cooling pads would only do so much while the system throttles potentially on both the CPU and GPU front reducing performance where it may be needed most

iirc the LG C1's HDMI 2.1 ports aren't using the full 48 gbps bandwidth they have available to them, rather 41 gbps. Users will find 4K 120Hz and 10 bit is possible but DSC is required to achieve it

there is a potential power spike with the 21.9.1 driver. MSI Afterburner is reporting as much as 395W(!!!) on a GPU (my 6800 XT Red Devil) that default with the OC bios should only be pulling 280W or around 322W if power limit is enabled and set to +15%

might not be an issue after all, seeing some claim AMD fixed the power draw reporting and this is what has come of it but idk. Decided to reinstall 21.9.1 driver if anything bad comes of it I'm fully blaming AMD for it. Their software and hardware should work nicely together. I get there is the occasional bug etc but power draw is something I personally would hope is being reported as accurately as software allows. 21.9.1 is the first driver I have seen where, with the exception of increasing power limit by +15%, power draw has been higher than the supposedly stock 280W my GPU and it's OC bios uses

I still don't think cores and threads matter much for gaming on PC. Most games still seem to run fine with 4 cores and having a CPU with 8+ you might as well find the best 4 cores for these games and have those cores run the game for optimal performance. no way I can rival that PC you have in cost but I am very happy with how my upgrade turned out and feel I got pretty lucky with my GPU, even if paying quite a bit for it.
Between the CPU upgrade (that included a CPU, cooler, motherboard, RAM and storage) I bought late last year and GPU I bought back in June I think I've spent close to £2000 which is the most I've spent on PC parts since getting into PC gaming, might even be more than I spent then too. My only regret is spending so much, in terms of performance I have absolutely no regrets 🙂

from what I understand both a 3090 and 6900 XT could work together but games would have to use DirectX 12 and/or Vulkan and dev would have had to implement some multiGPU feature into their game to support such a crazy setup, which afaik most don't bother so finding these games is rare and so multiGPU whether Nvidia SLI/NVLink, AMD Crossfire or mix of both is kind of dead for gaming. I would sure like to see the results of this should it work though too

one thing I've heard though is for AMD users undervolting is still the way to go. Like see what you can achieve without lowering clock speeds and remaining stable. in Radeon Software you would see this at the bottom of the performance tab. We might be on different driver 21.9.1/9.2 changed thing slightly but mostly everything should be intact. By the looks of it AMD are integrating Ryzen Master into Radeon Software so it is a 2 in 1 software

there are performance gains to be had in some games. Others not so much or no change but I'd say take the free performance

nice, a 90w drop in power is quite a bit and only losing 1% in performance is pretty good too. Have you tried going further to see how far you can go before having to drop clock speed and voltage to keep going?

currently I can't get any accurate reading on my 6800 XT due to AMD messing up or a bug being presented in recent AMD drivers that has caused the GPU power consumption reading to be inaccurate. Pretty sure it has been confirmed as a bug. Hopefully fixed soon

damn, that is one very power hungry card and the worst part is I don't see the gains you'd probably expect to see with all that power. seems like they did a ton of work to magpie over the last couple months, the results seem as good as or better than native fsr in a lot of these videos, and performance is only slightly worse, so its beneficial to probably most games now

the point isnt what framerate it runs at but they needed a game with a decent fsr implimentation built in

so they could compare magpie to amd fsr directly in like for like scenes, and at the end of august RE 8 was probably the best game they could have used to do that test, since its more varied visually than necromunda, and the implimentation isnt broken like avengers

it seems like magpie works best in conjuction with SMAA, which you can probably also inject with reshade or similar if the game doesnt use smaa natively

I've always known playing at ultra or maxed settings isn't worth it. Not least the additional performance hit that often times comes with it. Though it is really time consuming finding the right balance of settings where visual quality is not impacted but there are improvements to performance that is why I leave it at maxed, unless I find guides like what Hardware Unboxed used to do for games but that is taking up a lot of their time so I'm grateful whenever they upload those sorts of videos

crazy thing is with the hardware we both have and the resolution we are playing at (1440p) we can crank those settings up to max and not really worry about having low performance. Game would have be poorly done to worry about that and honestly, since buying this 6800 XT Red Devil it still stands that I have yet to find a single game I cannot run or framerate consistently below 60 FPS even at maxed settings (excluding ray tracing options)

all depends on what you like really. Couple of things I do recommend you get, if you haven't already. PC game pass - that gives access to hundreds of PC games and also includes EA Play and Ubisoft+ if you like Ubisoft's games - that incudes most, if not all their catalogue of games and premium editions. Combined those two subscriptions cost around £20 a month (the latter being more expensive)

Question about dualbooting

If you change your IP address in one OS, will that also change the IP address in the other OS?

It depends, if you manually set it in the OS, then no. If you set it on your router to always assign the same one to that machine, then yes, it will state the same

I have an Xbox Series X controller connected vis USB to my computer but it does not seem to register. It only works to charge.
