I believe the series X controller uses USB-C for the controller's end. so if you don't have an elite series 2 or get one of the newer play-and-charge kits, then I'd make sure you have a USB-C to A cable, or bluetooth connectivity (or the wireless adapter for Windows)

tbh it doesn't surprise me if these GPUs try to pull so much power. Especially the 3x 8 pin 3080 and 3090 GPUs. Between the power from PCIE (75W?) and each 8 pin being able to do 150W at spec (can go higher I'm aware) for a total of up to 525W these are some power hungry GPUs

some of the stuff I've heard about Zen 3 on another server sounds really positive. Could be that AMD are set to upgrade from 4 cores per CCX to 8 cores per CCX, which will also equal one CCD but that basically would mean 8 cores could perhaps be split 4/8 over two CCD on say the 5700X and the more premium 5800X could be the one CCD, no IF latency premium 8 core CPU that will bring the fight seriously to Intel at last. None of that latency stuff that plagued their 8 core CPUs of old but I do hear these 8 core CCX may end up being more expensive
Even something as crazy as the 3950X on Zen 3 could benefit big time. I believe that was run as 4/8 x 4 CCX. If Zen 3 talk is true that will be halved to 8/16 x 2 CCX which should improve the latency again

I don't get why Nvidia are comparing the 3070 to a 2080 Ti. Sure, they mentioned during the Ampere reveal that is is equal to one in performance but wouldn't it have made for far better reading (and marketing) comparing it to its predecessor(s)? 1070 and 2070. I gave up with FH4 after seeing a list of programs that were recommended to be shut to avoid crashing. Was quite an extensive list. Not to mention the blocking of programs like MSI Afterburner and RTSS. Even Freesync doesn't appear to work with FH4 properly
one positive to come from owning an AMD card though. I can use Radeon Software's metrics so while I miss RTSS I was still able to monitor everything
plus I'm getting to like AMD. If that 3080 TUF I ordered doesn't hurry I may yet stick with AMD. I'm giving that GPU up until the 28th to arrive before I likely have thoughts of changing my mind from what AMD announce

If you can't wait then compare the pricing of the 3700X to the 3800X. They are much the same CPU. Also, a little note on AMD Freesync and Nvidia G-Sync. I'll start with AMD Freesync. It is software based and requires an AMD Radeon GPU to enable it but will allow for tear free gaming though do watch out. Freesync and G-SYNC compatible both come with drawbacks where at a certain lower refresh rate figure it will disable itself and introduce screen tearing. Luckily AMD do have Freesync Premium to combat that. That tier has support for LFC (low framerate compensation) which allows Freesync to remain active where it would have previously disabled itself after dropping below its lower Freesync range.
G-Sync on the other hand. The G-Sync "Compatible" tier works similar to AMD Freesync Premium so I don't really need to go over that again, just it supports Nvidia GPUs but G-Sync certified I believe is the next tier up and that is hardware based. These monitors will have a module installed in them that allows monitors to go even lower than their Freesync counterparts. 1-144Hz for example. All while remaining screen tear free

I remember asking about this elsewhere a while back (around 2017) and I was told then "save money, jsut buy an SSD and wait for NVMe to truly become relevant" or something along those lines. SSD is already quite an improvement and it appears their cost is falling
2TB SSDs can be found for around $200+ same likely can't be said for 2TB NVMe, especially the really fast ones. Probably up to $400 for one of them. Really got to weigh it all up. Same size storage just faster. Perhaps taking 30 seconds load times to less than 10 seconds. Is it really worth double the cost just to save 20 seconds or so? I'd say no and happily go with the SSD. Though some will say differently

If it goes to 2000mhz at 50°c and eats 300W, and you undervolt it tremendously, it’s still gonna hit 2000mhz at 50°c and eat 300w
If you lower the voltage target then you’ll notice lower temp.
And lower performance.

why do people seem to make such a fuss about undervolting though? Seems some GPUs have room to be even more efficient than they are out of the box and at least to my understanding that is where undervolting comes in. I've tried it even remaining stock clock speeds and just lowering voltage. Got my 5700 XT from 2070MHz at 1200mV to 2070MHz at 1100mV. That should have made it a little more efficient than it was if left stock with no loss in performance since I didn't lower the frequency

I don’t know exactly what kind of undervolting you’re doing, but just be aware that if your gpu boosts and the power isn’t there, it will crash.

I followed a guide that mentioned to drop voltage by 50mV until benchmarking program crashes. From there I increase that crashed voltage by 10mV until stable again and for a little extra caution I add another 10mV after I'm confident I have a stable voltage

its not worth buying prebuilt. Save yourself the money and potential disappointment of getting cheap parts and build it yourself. Its a lot more rewarding and the money you save on stuff like labour costs or any other fees prebuild PCs can carry either means money that can go back into the system you build, getting what you want or spare money to use or save up later

Obviously I love my brother and next time I will get him a custom build sorted but I think he learned to wait a little more. 7500, some really cheap H110 motherboard and an EVGA 1070 (SC I think it was). The GPU at the time was probably the highlight of the prebuild but I know I could have done a lot better

won't know until the 29th. Though lets be honest, even Nvidia pushing back the launch day just for some more demand to be met isn't going to stop the bots. If anything it has given more people the chance to have the money and these being the cheapest cards of the RTX 30 series I expect there to be an even bigger demand issue than perhaps the 3080 and 3090 combined

It means that AMD is actually competitive to Intel again and, according to their own test results, beat their 10th series processors in gaming applications. So instead of only being better in most non-gaming applications, AMDs new Zen 3 architecture is touted to be better in gaming too, making Intel a bad purchase.
Although that's what AMD is saying. Still have to wait for independent test results and benchmarks
