I'm not sure how much difference you'll get from a gaming mouse on Xbox compared to PC as I don't know how it handles various settings and DPI changes, to be honest.

@gaunt agate It is a lot of practice, but I think a common mistake is setting your sensitivity too high, usually the average mouse is at 1600 dpi (dpi is similar to sensitivity) and the sensitivity in games are usually set too high as is. I'd recommend trying to get used to 800 DPI if your mouse allows you to adjust those settings. I believe the average CSGO pro is around 400-600 DPI for comparison.

If your mouse doesn't have those setting, I would recommend lowering the sensitivity in the game to the lowest you can stand.

an i5 and 1070 isn't too bad. Still a really solid gaming PC that should get 60+ fps in most titles. Though that 9700K and Titan X setup is much nicer. Crank up those graphics setting to max and still enjoy >60 fps in every title. With the exception of poorly optimized games

personally, in my usage going from a 3.5inch HDD to a 2.5inch SSD provides far better loading time benefits across the board (OS and games). Between 2.5inch SSD and nvme though load time improvements become so minute I can't justify paying even more for a 1 second or so improvement in load times. On that video I linked HDD to SSD load times were far more significant (as much as a full minute!)

oh, well I'm sorry 🙁 I can't recommend any gaming headsets. Last gaming headset I had was the Logitech G Pro before switching to Senheiser HD 600 and ditching the gaming headset

not too sure on either of them tbh but g430 might be a good choice. g432 might just be a g430 with added virtual 7.1 surround sound, which I find to be a lot of marketing mumbo jumbo. Stereo sound is fine

If you're used to the XB1 controller the Dual Shock may be uncomfortable due to the different placement of analogue sticks.

The Switch Pro Controller has the same stick placement as XB1, but A/B and X/Y placements are reversed which can be confusing for Xbox players. Also, the Switch controller doesn't have analogue triggers, which can be a problem in racing games etc

Nope, they didn't include analogue triggers on the Pro Controller because the handheld mode doesn't have them either. Shame because the non-analogue triggers feel awful.

@woeful wagon I'd recommend stretching your budget to accommodate an 8 core CPU. The 3700X is great. Your CPU is now over 5 years old (launched Q2 2014) also go a little faster with your ram, again if you can. Ryzen 3000 loves 3600MHz ram it seems

you said you get between 80-100 fps on forza horizon 4 which is a bit lower than what it shows on the site by around 10%. I'd say take those results with a grain of salt. No idea what the testing conditions were. All sorts of factors could be at play

Plus I have certain expectations that I hope games that I play meet or they don't last long on my PC. fps minimum 60 and fps target 144. I can take exception to the occasional drop below 60 fps but regular drops nope. So far only one game has fallen victim to not meeting my expectations

There are no 'Xbox games on PC'. There are PC games which also happen to be on Xbox.

Some games are Play Anywhere, which means you buy on either PC or Xbox and you then own it on both. Some games are cross-play, allowing you to play with both PC and Xbox players together. You don't need an Xbox for either of those if you intend to play on PC.

Just don't buy an Xbox game. You need to buy PC games, either from the Windows 10 store, Steam, Origin, UPlay, Epic Store etc

You'll want to make sure gsync is enabled too. That is easy. Right click on the desktop and look for the nvidia control panel and under Display go to "Set up G-SYNC" make sure Enable G-SYNC, G-Sync Compatible is ticked and Enable for fullscreen mode is selected

Don't expect to get say 200 fps on something like a GT 1030 for example so you really want to go for something decent. Most of the fps limits though (as long as you have a decent GPU) would come in the form of the game's graphics settings but again, the more powerful the better the fps will be. Unless you are like me and want to game with just about every setting cranked up to max but that's a whole different level of fps limiting

ahh, good old social media. Way too much sensitive content imo. Makes "professional Tweeters" etc have to think twice about what they want to write as it may offend someone. Sure, I don't agree with what I have read but it can happen to anyone I'm sure. Just these people (in work) seem to get targeted and lose their jobs over one tweet seems a bit daft. Doesn't cloud my opinion of CDPR as a game dev/publisher in any way though and what they done with Witcher 3 and their stance on DRM-free is amazing

@sudden birch sorry to ping you so late. What sort of budget will your friend's son be working off? Ideally for a good gaming PC you will want to spend around £1000. Can be cheaper though, if you find deals but £1000 will guarantee a solid entry to PC gaming and honestly, reading this right about now you may be thinking "that's pretty expensive" - It is, no doubt but totally worth it in the long term

Also, I'm by no means a professional PC builder. I built my own gaming PC back in late June 2016 and while I'm relatively new to PC gaming I have come to know a lot in a little over 3 years. Still a lot to learn but very passionate about it all 🙂

no, I meant without a solid player base the game will fail. A player base that is required to have a really high spec PC to run the game optimally will be limited unless they optimise that game to the point specs are lowered so more can join in. Only fair all can play not those with big wallets

To describe it better I simply max out both power and temperature limits (in this case, 120% and 90c) and unlink them. Unlinking power and temperature limits appears to give more stable clock speeds with Pascal GPUs and their GPU Boost 3.0

I've tried overclocking my 1080 Ti a few times (not that it needs it) and most times I find it crashes 😦 Either some of the games I play don't take well to an overlocked GPU or I got a poor binned 1080 Ti FE card

always look for artifacting when running the test benchmarks, first memory clock, dial it up until you see artifacting (50-100 per increment), then dial it back an increment and work up in smaller integers until you see artifacting again, and repeat until you hit threshold then I personally drop it another 5-20 from that threshold.

same with core/GPU clock, just with increments of 5-10 instead of 50-100

#

then once you found the limits of both, do testing to see stability and tearing test to find the actual OC-placement between the threshold of both

I done that but only with GPU clock and thought what I had running was stable. Though I didn't have what I'm running now (the more stable clock speeds) any overclock would also show on the stable speed but likely also means a hotter GPU

hmm lucky. I've noticed mine drop ever so slightly from 70c. Even when capping games to 60 fps - something that I have had to accept lately if I don't want my CPU to be hitting 100% usage all the time, especially since every game I play I run on maxed settings and expect at least 60 fps and target fps being up to 180. Playing on a 1080p, 180Hz (OC) monitor

ok, so I ran the same overclock that I used to think was stable (+150MHz GPU clock and +500MHz memory) with some of the new stuff i added since and wow, for once it didn't crash. Even better, I was seeing 2GHz (2000MHz) being reported on my 1080 Ti (2025MHz was highest it went)

hmm yeah and having just looked at the TU102 GPUs (2080 Ti, Titan RTX, Quadro 6000 and Quadro 8000) the Titan RTX is already a full Turing GPU. Out of those GPUs mentioned only the 2080 Ti is the odd one out with some stuff disabled
