PBO doesn't really do much besides increase power limits to squeeze maybe another 5% or so performance but that will come at the cost of slightly higher temperatures in certain workloads

yeah, just have to watch with curve optimizer not to go too far with the undervolting as it could end up with a BSOD. I had that happen once when I had a 5600X thinking I could simply set and forget a negative 30 on curve optimizer. Quickly found out it wasn't stable lol and that was the last time I had a BSOD, was like late 2020 or early 2021 that happened but a preventable one at that 😄

luckily you only have 6 cores to deal with if you were to put the time in to manually find the sweet spot for each core. +200MHz on the core is another thing not to just set and forget as it could introduce clock stretching, along with the other usual signs of instability

i used the deathadder before hand which used razer synaspe, which all things considering worked fine and never brought issues to the computer (except low frame rates whenever i played Black Ops 1, was fixed by just turning it off)

i came to realize i needed icue for my new mouse, which after Synapse 4 i think Icue is better to navigate, but no, apparently icue has had issues with vanguard since 2020

I do have another question that I can't seem to find information on. I have a Montech XR case. (it's got 3 fans, 2 at the side and 1 at the back) I was thinking of adding 2 to the top of my case but unsure which way they should face.

I equally don't wanna make my PC more hot because the fans are in wrong 😅

I have the fans spare and the screws to fit them in so might as well put them to use

Sometimes using fewer fans can be better too but in a case that uses side fans idk how well the air will travel to the rear fans to be exhausted. Always thought of the side panel in cases that use it to be a great spot to maybe put an AIO cooler that would exhaust air out if there is a mesh air thingy on the other side allowing it to escape

I still have 3 very expensive fans sitting in their box from over 2 years ago that I was going to use in a new case but after trying to build my brother’s PC in the same case I didn’t like the building experience so put a halt to that idea. The fans? Noctua 140mm Chromax (forgot the exact model) Cost me like £30 each at the time so £90 or so in fans just sitting there 😅

I probably think too much about it but next time I do rebuild my PC with a new case not all the available slots a fan can be installed will have a fan. 3 fans should ideally be enough. Largest supported at the front and at the back, unless the case has some weird alternative configuration like side or bottom fans then idk how I'd put those to use but having cool air come up from the bottom to exhaust out the top of a case sounds the most natural design but I think that would require the GPU to be vertically mounted as otherwise it could obstruct a lot of the airflow

32GB should still be the go to for gaming + multtasking but you'll probably want even more if you plan on doing stuff like content creation and sadly these days that RAM isn't coming cheap. 32GB kits are already expensive enough but going past that be prepared to spend a lot more. I'd say to hold off but it may not be that simple for some so RIP to your wallets if you have to go out and buy a 32GB+ kit right now but I guess buying it now and not looking at the receipt is one way to go about it 😄

I think NIS (Nvidia Image Scaling) would be like AMD's FidelityFX CAS (Contrast Adaptive Sharpening) that seems to have pretty much disappeared these days but its weird that NIS also has an upscaling element to it where CAS was only sharpening and maybe added to earlier versions of FSR in certain games iirc

BO7 is in my bad book as it caused my PC to restart on me 3 times. Very random I should add but it worried me enough to say "nope, uninstalling". Never looked into why it may be doing that but I can play every other game I have installed just fine without that happening so its BO7's problem. Probably for the best I stay away from competitive FPS games anyways so in a weird round about way those random system restarts are doing me a favour lol

as I said, I never looked into it but the fact it was only BO7 causing the issue it could have been anything and honestly I wasn't about to go and read too much into it. I would have been far more concerned if the random restarts happened on other games I play after a lengthy time but so far since I bought my 5080 back in August there has been no other instances of such. Only BO7 in that time and I can often play games for many hours at a time so if it was going to happen, it was easily reproducible

it might be not your Problem for your PC but for my old PC - my Charger HUB caused my PC to restart today like 2 times and i was panicking , i dont want my old PC to die yet . Plus you could always use a older PC still for other things . Just saying might not be always the Games fault too

Been researching about my GPU - it's not going over 150W. Even in a game like Hogwarts. And it says if you have a daisy chained GPU, you're not gonna go over 150W. My GPU is plugged into my PSU via a cable that leads to an 8pin and another 8pin. Is that daisy chained?

if you are using upscaling there is a good chance power draw may lower but when I had an AMD GPU I never saw that happen as my 7900 XTX at the time was reporting its full power in usage (~346W) even with upscaling active. What GPU is this you are using, 6750 XT or 7800 XT?

example of this (but on Nvidia) I have Diablo 4 running at maxed settings without ray tracing enabled and set DLSS to Performance with Nvidia Reflex enabled, no Frame Generation active and my 5080 is only drawing around 260W when it is a GPU rated for up to 360W

I'm also frame capped thanks to the NVCP applied vsync + in game Nvidia Reflex hence the 225 FPS limit. Should probably go and enable ray tracing 😅

interesting and good to know but I'm still very much against using wireless peripherals. Controller, keyboard and mouse and headphones are all wired and will remain that way for as long as there are USB ports and headphone jacks on motherboards and other equipment

used to always believe there was issues with latency on wireless but I think that has been minimized these days. Still not sure I'd go wireless though and with all the changes to codecs for wireless headphones regularly I buy something today and that could be deemed obsolete in merely a year while wired headphones stand the test of time. Sennheiser HD 600 I can use as an example. 20+ years old headphones, still very popular just plug them into some good equipment and off you go. No need to worry about what wireless codecs are supported or charging them after a while of use

I may also be a bit hesitant to change and going from all wired peripherals to wireless would certainly be one such major change that I don't think I could wrap my head around quickly 😅

tbf might as well make use of the features that a GPU supports. Once DLSS 4.5, dynamic multi frame generation and multi frame generation (6x) all come out of beta support on the Nvidia App I'll be trying them all. Dynamic MFG sounds the most interesting though as you can set a target FPS for a game and then while playing that game it will be worked out how much frame generation is actually needed rather than punting it to say 4x when maybe 2x or 3x would be better instead (for that target FPS)

was running really well. Walked around parts of the map and was driving in Night City too. The driving in night city part was more performance intensive as FPS dropped to around 160-180 FPS, which would be around 40-45 FPS actual as the 160-180 FPS figure is with 4x Frame Generation in use. One major thing I did notice while driving around Night City though is no more (or very little) ghosting trail behind cars!

there may be a reason for that idk but I do remember Intel CPUs used to, maybe still do only clock one or two cores faster than the rest through some of their frequency boosting features (I keep forgetting their names, shows how out of the loop I am with Intel tbh) but yeah. I'd be cautious about altering those settings as it could be you are running your CPU outside of Intel spec

have to just wait and see but the additional latency going from 2x Frame Generation to up to 4x when Nvidia introduced that seemed fairly low with the help of Nvidia Reflex keeping that in check most likely so I'm guessing it will be much the same again. Slightly higher latency (with 5x or 6x Frame Generation in use) and to go with it some updates to Nvidia Reflex to better optimize it for these new modes, along with dynamic multi frame generation when they both become available

Steam Machine may even see something of a triple price hit seeing as GPUs use VRAM and that too is affected, though to a lesser extent (currenrly at least) than DRAM but some SSDs have DRAM onboard too and that could even impact the cost and/or choice of SSD used in the Steam Machine

However, if this is baked into the monitor itself it would become a lot more difficult to detect or create some kind of fix to prevent I would imagine. I for one don't support cheating either

9700 Pro is for all purposes a 9070 XT with 32 GB ECC VRAM

the ECC is probably why it loses about 2 to 3% performance over 9070 XT

also the Pro's full functionality can not even be used in Windows. You need Linux with ROCm.

how come? I've rarely experienced issues when I was on AMD and that was with 5700 XT, 6800 XT and 7900 XTX and from what I've heard with many 9000 series users is that the drivers seem to be pretty good. Only issue some may run into is PCIe 5.0 related and the fix for that is to go into the BIOS and change PCIe Link Speed (naming may vary a bit between board manufacturers) from Auto/Gen 5 to Gen 4. This fix has even helped Nvidia RTX 50 series users out too in some occasions though it may come with a small performance penalty on lower end GPUs, mainly the ones that only use x8 and not x16 on the PCIe side

it was delayed slightly as Nvidia previously mentioned it was to release yesterday but released earlier today instead

as for what I learned. On the Nvidia app after it is updated if you set DLSS Overrides to Recommended and go in game then select Ultra Performance the override will activate and use Preset L. While using Performance mode will use Preset M. On top of that Balanced, Quality and DLAA all use Preset K (DLSS 4.0) automatically and there is no need to restart now for each of these overrides to apply. One limitation I have become aware of though is Ray Reconstruction doesn't work with DLSS 4.5 as it uses its own upscaler so will show as Inactive where there would have been a Preset mentioned on the Super Resolution (SR) metric

Preset L uses ultra performance mode for DLSS while Preset M uses performance mode so they won't be the same as they upscale from different resolutions. 720p on Preset L and 1080p on Preset M (from 4K).
To use DLSS 4.5 you'll need to make sure the Nvidia app is up to date (latest version is 11.0.6.379) and then go into the Graphics tab and either set it globally or per game by finding the DLSS Override - Model Presets under Driver settings and selecting Recommended and thats it on the Nvidia app side

I think upscaling should only need 3 modes. Performance (25%), Balanced (50%) and Quality (75%) with the likes of DLAA (100%) being a native option. AFAIK Performance is usually 33%, Balanced would be unchanged and Quality is usually 67%

What other PCIe related devices do you have connected to the motherboard? GPU will use between x8-16 and is also Gen 3 spec

to clear things up a bit more. Having a 5600X that can support PCIe and M.2 Gen 4 doesn't mean it just automatically grants it. You'll need a supported motherboard and iirc PCIe and M.2 Gen 4 support started with X570/B550 boards

I don't bother with debloating Windows and haven't had any issues. System stability has been really strong

damn, those are pretty hefty requirements, especially on the CPU end for AMD. 3080 is kind of meh nowadays as it will be held back by its 10GB on some games at certain resolutions and settings where as the 6800 XT matches the hardware on consoles, albeit perhaps a bit more powerful while that 16GB should let it power through games up to 4K and ultra settings (though if ray tracing is baked in it may be best to lower some settings)

32GB RAM on the other hand is becoming normal for recent releases. Only time to start worrying is if 32GB becomes requirement for minimum spec but I think we're still a way off from that happening and the state of PC hardware prices that may delay such requirements for a while longer still

I think the whole min/recommended thing needs to change for PC specs listed for games. Should just be a minimum seeing as anything equal to or better than that should run whatever game and basing that minimu around specs similar to todays consoles (Zen 2 CPU + RDNA 2 GPU) would be a good start

yeah, it wasn't a large increase at all. Also, to go into a bit more detail on the optical flow accelerator. Seems RTX 50 series doesn't use it yet RTX 20-40 series do so RTX 20-40 series should be at least capable of 2x frame gen while multi frame gen may be tensor core accelerated

definitely has a sense of Nvidia sabotaging their own GPUs to try and get people to upgrade but at the same time DLSS 4.5 can be used as an example where if hardware lacks certain instructions (in DLSS 4.5's case FP8 on RTX 20 and 30 series) then the only solution is fallback which isn't as efficient and will mean a heavier loss in performance and if fallback isn't possible then features won't be supported full stop

I would have recommended the 5070 Ti before to people but seeing as it now costs $1000+ over in the US that is getting difficult to do so. Only things going for it.
A). remains better value than a 5080 (with about 10-15% performance difference)
B). idk how US pricing for AMD's 9070 XT is but if you happen to use apps that require CUDA you are sadly still better off with an Nvidia GPU but if the 9070 XT comes in cheaper and you don't need CUDA then it is pretty much a no brainer to pick AMD. Though I would maybe steer clear of the 9070 XT models with the 12v-2x6 connector. Luckily AMD still give people the choice of 2-3x 8 pin GPUs

ok, yeah the 9070 XT is a no brainer. 5070 has 12GB VRAM so less than both the 5070 Ti and 9070 XT but it does have faster VRAM, GDDR7 vs GDDR6 (vs 9070 XT). Could come down to any required use of CUDA as Nvidia's software stack is better overall but AMD's ROCm is improving so who knows where that could go

I tested the new driver (26.1.1) with Black Ops 7. I was getting low 1st 85fps CPU bottleneck. I remembered seeing it way higher -- so I tried an older driver that most people recommend for the 7000 series and the low 1st was 185fps. How can a driver be so bad?

Game is much smoother too. Don't think I'll be trying any new driver now 😄

thing is even on the stable version of the latest version of Windows 11 there has been some pretty nasty issues as of late. Stuff that I would have hoped if it appeared in beta, canary or dev channels would have been patched before it ever reached stable. Those versions are there for a reason and there is even a preview build too so I count 4 different builds before features reach stable version in which mess ups etc can be detected - though I may be a bit harsh as some of this has come from the more frequent monthly "patch Tuesday" updates and idk if those get passed through those other build versions in quite the same way a feature update does

Why is there no option on Xbox App to repair a game that is updating or downloading? I have been unable to update one of the games I've been playing as part of my HDD was corrupted. The problem is I would be able to update the game if I could just repair the game files but because I have to wait until it's installed to repair the files I'm stuck.

Thing is though I already resolved the issue with all other games. Xbox App is the only thing which won't allow me to just repair the game or redownload it. I think at this point my best bet is to completely uninstall all the games on Xbox App and completely redownload them which I was avoiding since a lot of them don't (to my knowledge) save progress online an I may have to completly restart the game.
