Personally I’d just return it if you are within the window
why lol
well depending on the board yeah id probably agree
but why should he avoid intel?
13th and 14th gen have known flaws
are you on about the ones that were patched months ago with a bios update?
the only issue with it is if your cpu is already degraded, in which the update wont reverse that
I still have my doubts if it was actually fixed. A lot of the updates were rushed out and still not long for people to have been testing
If I’m spending that kind of money I’d want to have no risk
yeah, that window is not only closed but sealed shut
I’d probably get a 12900K to be safe if it’s a similar price to the 13700
the 12900k is a garbage purchase
Those have no known problems and on the same socket
ever since 0x129 and 0x12b have released there has been a significant reduction in failure reports and ones that receive OP follow ups are always just "previously degraded" or "not updated"
there is simply no reason to be saying "avoid intel"
if you list off specific intel products, such as the newer lga1851 socket (currently all cpus are vulnerable, so no specific SKU naming is necessary) which currently have issues then sure
Well those are reports we know about, now that the new line is out there won’t be much focus on these older CPUs anymore. 12900K is not that different and was never impacted by these issues so that’s what I’d recommend
im not sure if you did look at the source i posted, but a 12900k will cost you more than a 13600kf (currently sub 200) yet will yield worse results. going up to a 13700k and youre seeing even worse
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-7-9800x3d/18.html
and your recommendation is, simply put, foolish, and is only a recommendation based on your nonsensical reasonings.
theres no reason to be avoiding the better performing & cheaper CPUs because youre afraid youll degrade your cpu by clicking buy.
until there is a reputable source that can verify that the newest microcodes do NOT fix the degradation issues, it is as simple as updating your bios when installing your new cpu.
better yet - buy a board with flashback ☺️
its a shame ASRock forgot what flashback was when designing their 700 chipsets
a system builder I know said there is new issues that exist since the microcode patches released that was said to fix the issues Intel had. So it seems those on Intel 13th or 14th gen can't win either way and as a note, this guy has built over 200 Intel based systems in the past year
Not nonsensical at all, many outlets have not been recommending 13th and 14th gen.
respectfully this holds little value (at least to me, not sure what this group is like with information).
theres nothing that says hes reputable and this isnt a verifiable claim - its straying from whats commonly accepted with the newest microcode
same as above - its still to be proven that the newest microcodes do not work and a lot of sources will tell you it does (with the exception that you may need to nudge your e cores a little, if you care about that)
if youre buying old stock boards and not updating your bios, yeah. i wouldnt be surprised if your cpu degrades
if he is online I can ask him to give me the low down on how the Intel 13th and 14th gen microcode is and paste it in chat
what if I bite the bullet and get that with this
i thought you had an LGA1700 board already
whats your reasoning for this? what gpu do you have?
7800XT
i imagine 1440p gaming then?
most likely 1080p for now
then youre doing the equivalent of putting money in a fire
until I get a new monitor
And my point was it’s best to avoid risk in my view if spending that sort of cash. I’m not saying if it has or hasn’t been fixed but there is no definitive answer to it. Hardware unboxed were still recommending people to avoid them even post the update when I was last watching their podcast a few weeks back
youre only seeing these large improvements with a 9800x3d at 1080p with a 4090
with weaker gpus, the difference is going to be smaller.
buying a $500 and a new $160 board doesn't make too much sense when you have the option of using your already-owned LGA1700 motherboard and just buying a $200 13600kf
that $600+ is going to be better spent on a new GPU, or a new monitor
this is where we have opposing views -- there is no risk
its tried and true, the newest microcodes (notably 0x12b) effectively prevent degradation
and besides, whats being said doesnt make sense
this guy OWNS the board already! i assume he has a cpu to go along with it, so he can just update the bios with his current cpu before using the new 13th/14th gen CPU
I messaged the guy I know, hopefully they will get back to me soon and I can paste in full what they say. Half expecting a lengthy rant on it tbh 😄 They've also built systems with the latest Intel CPUs and said the Core Ultra are horrible and that the microcode updates Intel implemented for them done very little in way of improving performance for those CPUs too. Honestly, Intel are just going through a really rough time of things lately
I don't have the CPU yet, just the one from my current 11 year old PC
ive already said that LGA1851 has issues, im not denying it
i mean, its cool that you have someone who you can contact and builds PCs but i mean to be totally honest, im not entirely interested in what he has to say.
i think his side of things would be interesting to read but i cannot verify any of his claims and i mean, hes clearly not the most reputable (not to say hes a dishonest guy, but more so hes not got a pre existing platform in which i can see his testing methodology and where the claims are coming from and compare them with other sources).
reputable is probably the wrong word.
i just do not understand the "hate" for intel here right now. if intels got a biggie for their 13th/14th gen, why doesnt AMD? 7800X3D cpus would quite literally just blow up on launch
whats the intel motherboard you own
iirc it has flashback anyway
AMD eventually fixed that now but yeah, AMD aren't immune to the issues either but since the BIOS update where AMD implemented the fixes for the 7800X3D CPUs there hasn't been any known issues of it since and though there was recently a moment of deja vu with the 9800X3D, that was later debunked as user error by Gamers Nexus.
One of AMD's biggest issues right now is arguably the boot time they have being so slow. Again, the guy I know has built many systems in the past year and beyond and he hates with a passion the time it takes the AMD system to boot after applying the EXPO profile in the BIOS. He's had what should be a typical AMD setup (7800X3D, X670E Gene and 32GB DDR5 6000 MT/s CL30) take over 5 minutes to boot. Meanwhile I'm over here with a 9800X3D (previously 7950X3D), B650E-F and 32GB DDR5 6000 MT/s CL32 and can boot up anywhere between 12-30 seconds lol
i see no reason not to just update the bios using flashback and then installing a new cpu
if I'm having a shop put the PC together for me, they should know how to do that right?
i dont want to slander your tech guy but im a bit skeptical on his knowledge. 5 minutes is completely abnormal and is either going through memory training every boot or just has issues - either way, isnt intended and should be troubleshooted
probably. might have to tell them to do it. if not, just do it yourself. if its microcenter it should be a standard procedure for them to update bios for you but... idk lol
that's what I couldn't understand either tbh but he does know a lot and I generally trust the information he gives. Doesn't mean I agree with him all the time ofc, we've had a few heated clashes but yeah
what do u guys think on mandatory ray tracing games?
to add on to this - expo/xmp sucks /j 😛😛
I'm also probably gonna have two 2TB SSDs
gen 4 or 5?
btw, sorry for kind of derailing things Coffee. I didn't mean for things to turn ugly with this 😦
Your Account
there's my list
most everything I already bought
just need the CPU, PSU and storage
i mean, AM5 actually has Gear 1 so youre probably going to have a somewhat lengthy memory training process if youre on older bios revisions and are enabling XMP/EXPO. if this is what hes on about then thats just a skill issue tbh
if its persistent long (1 minute+) boot times to windows then he needs to troubleshoot something
or would i be correct in assuming hes using 4 sticks because lolprebuiltsmoment
the pcie gen of an ssd doesnt indicate anything of how well it performs for a user
especially if the user is just gaming
there are several cases of pcie 3 ssds being better than pcie 5 ssds
oh
oh yeah, for sure. Want to know the funniest thing? My RAM doesn't support EXPO. Was an Intel XMP only kit and to use the profile it seems I have to select DOCP II as DOCP I will apply the profile but also ASUS enhanced timings etc (and I don't want that with their recent track record either)
if you ask me, having a conversation derail into users "challenging eachother" in a tech discussion is a good thing.
is this viewable for any of you
shows a log in screen
ew, ai timings? just ram OC, if youre willing to spend 2 hours of your time (or 20+ if youre trying to tighten a lot) i could help you with ram oc some time
how do I make it so someone else can view it
go to your parts list page and click on the copy button
dont grab the link from the browser
should be a link on the pc build you can copy and paste
Part List - Intel Core i7-13700K, Radeon RX 7800 XT, Corsair 4000D Airflow ATX Mid Tower
could you mark whats owned?
storage situation is a bit funny. why 2x2tb 980 pros? for $300 too lol
Skyrim mods be taking up a lot of space
last time I tried memory OC I messed up badly and thought I fried the CPU's IMC or the RAM with what I tried (this was way back when i was using a 5600X mind you) but ever since I've been somewhat afraid to touch memory OC since unfortunately
Have people stopped avoiding buying the intel 13th gen CPUs?
i more so meant why those ssds specifically
no reason, I am open to alternative suggestions
read above, there was a discussion on this. conflicting views (as expected) but tldr update your bios to either 0x129 or 0x12b before using a 13th/14th gen
Already updated my BIOS 3 months ago 🙂 I have a 13900k
awesome
Deek Squad alert
what SSD would you recommend
Samsung produces some pretty high quality SSDs, but for a price obviously. Some may say you can cheap out and get something like Crucial, where you may be more likely to encounter issues / dying M.2 SSDs, but I personally have no evidence to suggest one way or the other. I went with Samsung to "play it safe"
I suspect there isn't actually a wrong answer
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Fd3NnQ/klevv-cras-c910-4-tb-m2-2280-pcie-40-x4-nvme-solid-state-drive-k04tbm2sp0-c91
should be e27t + bics6 (which is irrelevant information to you tbh) afaik.
if you for some reason desire 2x2tb just grab the same thing but in the 2tb version
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Q7kH99/klevv-cras-c910-2-tb-m2-2280-pcie-40-x4-nvme-solid-state-drive-k02tbm2sp0-c91
I like to keep my BIOS version as up to date as possible. Often got asked the whole "why fix what isn't broken?" but its a habit I have had since getting into PC gaming. Only versions of BIOS I avoid is any that are marked as beta. Will gladly wait for that beta status to be dropped before I touch any BIOS update
Idk how much weight this holds, but I find it interesting that Fakespot rates the actual rating of this product 2/5 stars
of course there is ☺️
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/HgRwrH/samsung-990-evo-plus-4-tb-m2-2280-pcie-50-x2-nvme-solid-state-drive-mz-v9s4t0bw pcie 5x2 which in essence is 4x4
not much of a biggie by itself but its priced similar to better performing drives
samsnug also had the whole 990 pro killing itself issues - real shame considering its theoretically the best gen 4 drive available (unless youre a gamer)
i dont have image perms to show my funny NV2 screenshot
I usually update the bios periodically or if there is any known problems that I become aware of. I always do before upgrading an OS at least
im happy to go verify the c910s internals if thats what this is meaning
if you mean the ssd itself isnt real.. idk what to say
i (used to - passed it on to my cousin) own one and so do a lot of people
Ermm no, I'm certain the SSD is real - it'd be more of a question of quality
I'll just also point back to "idk how much weight this holds" - it could just mean garbage amazon reviews
my attention to detail with these BIOS updates is perhaps even a bit obsessive (idk a better wording for it tbh) but I have a resource that even allows me to see test versions (definitely don't recommend trying those) and upcoming AGESA versions. Only thing is I don't think there is an Intel equivalent. If there is I want to find it so I keep up with those BIOS versions too
i usually just suggest people "ignore" amazon (or product) user reviews
obviously good to note them if theyre saying seller is illegitimate or every single review says the same thing (idk, ssd dies in 1 week)
I will glance at them, but they aren't my final decision maker 😄
especially since amazon product reviews dont hold too much when the product page can just get swapped
common in those 7800x3d scam listings
half the reviews will be about some childs soft toy
an SSD I'd recommend is the WD Black SN850X
i mean its a good ssd but why that one specifically
Yeah I’d also recommend that one, I have a few of those
is what I use and does what it needs to as far as I'm concerned and haven't heard anything around issues with it to the same level as Samsung, for example
Samsung are on my bad books generally
for a lot of users looking to just game and run windows even lower end QLC drives will do everything they need
I also have a 980 pro which has been fine mostly but was a bit wonky with performance out of the box but firmware update resolved that
Kinda goes back to my "no wrong answer" - with basic research, I think it's hard to make a mistake here.
Most people will end up buying something that is a safer bet for extra money, when they may not need it
(Samsung, WD)
yesn't
(And most people will buy something based on reputation of the brand / company 😄 )
if the buyer is just running windows and gaming then theoretically any m.2 nvme ssd will be just fine for them but theres caveats with just buying willynilly
some ssds use hardware thats prone to early death and some like to drop to sub hdd.
then obviously theres the whole issue of picking the best ssd for you. no point in buying a 1tb 990 pro for $100 if idk a $50 mp44l will be more than enough for you. hand in hand with picking a bad ssd at the same price or more expensive than better ssds
below is a gen 5.0 drive that is rated for up to 14000 MB/s losing to gen 3.0 drives
https://tpucdn.com/review/msi-spatium-m580-frozr-4-tb/images/watch-dogs-legion.png
😛😛
interested in seeing my whole PC build? lisquie
also ssds like NV2 exist where its just a complete gamble on hardware
theres several known configs for the nv2
sure, why not
TPU database shows both an IG5220 and RTS5772DL + Hynix 128L variant
the most recent being RTS5772DL
perfectly fine for a gamer
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/gcbsJn pricing isn't current but what I paid for the components at the time of purchase. Most of them, with exception of the case have been bought within the last 2 years or so
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Radeon RX 7900 XTX, Corsair Carbide Series 400C ATX Mid Tower
no point in buying a 1tb 990 pro for $100 if idk a $50 mp44l will be more than enough for you. hand in hand with picking a bad ssd at the same price or more expensive than better ssds
My point is those aren't wrong choices. They might not be the best choices, or even bad choices, but "wrong" isn't jiving with me
only time theres truely wrong choices for the standards user PC is PSUs
overclock your ram lol 😛😛
decent binned hynix ram
A-Die RAM
"If you haven't already, have you considered overclocking your RAM?"
☺️
(You clearly know things lisquie, but how you deliver your knowledge is equally important 🙂 )
is the one on my list ok?
did dabble a little into some tuning but afaik 6000 MT/s is Ryzen's sweet spot, according to AMD. Overclocking it, if you mean by increasing the frequency further runs the risk of stability issues or dropping the infinity fabric link from 1:1:AUTO to 2:1:AUTO and losing performance while also increasing latency
of course ☺️ i try my best to at the very least not be condescending or insulting.
overclocking your ram by changing the dram frequency and nothing else is never a good idea.
i dont believe i have image perms (not like itd help considering my windows/zen timings is japanese) but if youre overclocking properly you can get 6400 or even 6600 running 1:1
XMP will default to 1:2 above 6000 on am5 which is why its advised to stick with the "sweet spot" - most arent gonna OC and therefore any 6000 CL30-38 is gonna be identical
the rm850e? quite overpriced, especially for its poor fan. although its a pretty good psu and is often put relatively high up by reviewers like HWBusters and TPU. i wouldnt get one at that price though, could get better
oops, might have made a mistake with one of the images
no reason for trefi to be so low but its whatever
youd probably be better off with trying to get 6400 1:1
6600 on your 9800x3d might be possible but considering its x3d you might have to run death voltages
i assume you stability tested right?
to a point, yeah. I'm far too impatient to give it the full stability test run of 24 hours but when i was using the additional tuned changes I played a few games and noticed no issues regarding stability and I like to crank games up to maxed settings so I'm sure that memory is getting a workout - just like the rest of my PC 😄
death voltages is also something I don't fancy touching lol
found a better picture of the adjustments I made. Adjustments in orange was what my friend recommended I change
about 10 minutes I think it was? then dove right into gaming 😄
you would likely see better gains with 6200 or 6400 1:1
wtffff. cl26 with only 10 minute test? crazy man
you should probably run VT3 for a few hours at some point
ram OC id never recommend testing for less than 1 hour
some people do just jump back in but yikes
was tempted to try CL 26 but stopped at 28
oh yeah, thats an 8. lol
I'm back on the non tuned side (cl32) btw. Honestly not sure what to think about trying 6200 or 6400 though
if youre ever feeling up to it, you should run some benchmarks on your current old oc ram config, then reset back to default xmp and benchmark again
bonus points if you try enabling xmp and changing dram frequency to 6400, mclk to 3200 and VDD/Q to 1.4 + running a benchmark for this
its pretty quick to tell if 6400 is worthwhile
set to 6400 1:1 and change voltages, set tCL to 30 or 36 or whatever, then run VT3 for an hour. if it fails - either spend several hours to get it to pass or just dont bother
not sure if i mentioned already but i managed to get 6600 on my 7800x3d for a while back with some pretty tight timings
didnt run it for long though before just going to 6400 with lower voltages
heh, I'd rather not spend the several hours tbh. Just want to game tbh and at one point, back when AMD had issues with the 7800X3D I had my 7950X3D running with 5200 MT/s cl40 (effectively the max supported, non OC/JEDEC profile RAM) for a while. Also tried 5600 MT/s with the 9800X3D too (seeing as AMD specs showed that being Zen 5's top RAM speed before OC is taken into account)
sorry if I'm a bit on the awkward side with some of this btw 😅
7950x3d on jedec? why? 2 ccd = 2 IF links = double max bandwidth
if anything, you should have played around with ram on the 7950x3d
ooh, nice. I always thought the 7800X3D limit was around 6200 MT/s with 2133 on the FLCK being required and it being quite the lottery whether or not it even worked?
i mean obviously at the end of the day its your system and you do as you wish but id personally be doing the complete opposite ☺️
6600 you need a god bin otherwise it requires death voltages (i got god bin)
6400 isnt too hard but single ccd x3d is quite silly so its more so just a 50/50 rather than it being difficult (if youre not gonna manually make it work)
the jedec thing was only until I had heard it was safe to use the XMP/DOCP stuff again as I had bought the 7950X3D very early on and that time really scared me. I was close to returning it
6200 on modern bios revisions i would probably consider guaranteed tbh
assuming hynix
all 1:1, 1:2 isnt worthwhile at all on a 7800x3d
7800x3d isnt capable of getting high enough to be worthwhile without some silly stuff going on
question i never oc my cpu other than set my ram speed is that bad?
also, I dropped from two CCDs with the 7950X3D to the one on the 9800X3D so to avoid the scheduling shenanigans the dual CCD X3D CPUs introduced. While it worked there was often a small performance penalty (vs the single CCD X3D CPUs that don't require any of the scheduling shenanigans). I originally viewed the 7950X3D purchase as an impulsive buy (known to do that often, like upgrading too frequently)
Personally I wouldn't really recommend overclocking the CPU these days. AMD tend to squeeze most of the performance you will get out of the box. What you end up chasing after that is usually so minuscule and likely requires more effort than worth
for the most part yeah most of the time any worthwhile OC is going to come from the parts that take 10s of hours to OC (such as ram)
although its still nice to do a quick UV + OC on a gpu
one change I can think of off the top of my head that people go chasing is performance gains via curve optimizer. Ideally you want to spend the time tuning per core rather than all cores but go too far either way and you run into stability issues and the occasional dreaded BSOD (ask me how I know xD)
i wonder how you know
feel like its worth saying that XOC will never stop being cool though
im in buildzoids server + know a ton of XOCs and its so awesome
i personally could never do it im too busy playing games but i wish i wasnt
gave curve optimizer a try back when I had a 5600X and thought I could go negative 30 all cores and forget it. Nope. Appeared stable and then crashed in games, once even displaying a BSOD too. Did try to tune curve optimizer better but eventually gave up with and since haven't touched it. AMD's Ryzen CPUs are so efficient it is scary
id argue even pbo isnt worth it anymore, at least not on a 78/9800x3d
7800x3ds low power draw is completely ruined with it
trying curve optimizer with per core when I had the 7950X3D would have been so time consuming. So glad I didn't jump down that rabbit hole at any time while I owned that CPU 😄
what i love about the final sentence "amds ryzen cpus are so efficient it is scary" is that while for the most part its true (lets just assume 7800x3d) people will still get terrified because their cpu isnt below freezing on idle.
i see it a lot, people concerned over 40-60 idle and then 70-89 on load.
theyre designed this way and intentionally try to keep themselves at max operating temps! i see people trying to ask if they should upgrade their cooler because their 7600x is at 90-95°C while gaming.. no! ☺️
and the 7800x3ds behaviour with how it is completely sporadic with its boosts and temps. scares a lot of people running stock fan curves
its calling you 🌀🌀🌀🌀 😝
oh yeah, I've seen a lot of posts on that and honestly, people really need to not worry so much. AMD's boost algorithms are at work and shouldn't push beyond their means. Whether on a stock cooler, 3rd party air cooler, AIO cooler or custom loop I'm pretty sure that 7800X3D is reaching 89C if it wants to, same with those non X3D CPUs with 95C temperature limits. You simply afford it more headroom the better the cooling situation. Though while gaming none of the CPUs will use their full power or reach 89-95C. I rarely saw my 5600X, 7950X3D or 9800X3D pass 70C and that was with the same cooler
stock cooler mentioned 💜💜
https://youtu.be/lgiBcD7bBaw
7800x3d is very funny. it will stay at 89°C or below on even the worst coolers. i know a guy who spent a bit on a ton of crappy coolers and not once did it throttle
@smoky flame oh yeah, i never asked.

why
that was a purchase with little to no thought attached to it. Bought a 7900 XTX MBA back when it launched (December 13th 2022) and after receiving and installing it got around to playing some games and noticed some games were crashing but not a normal crash - it was tripping my old power supply so I decided a couple days later to buy a new power supply and that was what I picked out. Was very much rushed as otherwise I could have been without a properly functioning PC at the time over Christmas lol
fair enough
fortunately had zero issues since so it all worked out in the end. Though I'm well aware I would have saved a lot of money had I spent a bit longer looking around
yeah, i was going to follow up with that. its a pretty decent psu. afaik its never been relevant due to its price, but its still good
I gotta think about winding down for the night. Just noticed the time (1:15am). This chat was definitely a lot of fun, crazy how fast time flies by when having fun, whether that be in a game or a good chat 😦 though I still feel bad if I put you off the Intel CPU purchase if you are still about, Coffee
absolutely, time just goes by. i myself often lose a lot of nights to talking tech.
glad you thought it was good, i got concerned over my tone at certain points
haha, same! Just glad we didn't do this over on general chat or I'm sure we'd have been told off multiple times by now hehe
lel absolutely. i remember not too long ago sticking about in general chat. eventually however they ~~kindly relocated ~~ confined me to here, which is fine. all i really do is talk about hardware, not like i need the other channels.
no worries about the tone. Kind of difficult imo to understand one's tone over text. Sometimes I worry that I come across as being some know it all when i randomly spew specs talk etc in general chat and definitly don't want it to be perceived that way. I may know a lot but still learning really - and thoroughly enjoying learning more each day!
absolutely tone is so difficult on text. nice that youre enjoying learning more ☺️
anyway, im gonna head off myself seeing as youre going. 💜
yo does anyone know any games that are crossplay story type games that support steam and xbox
yo i need help, sea of thieves have been downloaded for alot of time when i came back to it it required a 5.9gb update when it was done i tried opening the game it started a 110gb update(the game's size is 113) does any1 know what to do to stop that? i have the game already downloaded in my country we have limited internet (400gb/m in my case) so that's really a problem
just a heads up, anyone on an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D and an 800 series motherboard (at this time idk if it is also affecting 600 series motherboards or CPUs too) might want to avoid updating to the latest BIOS version that includes AGESA 1.2.0.3a Patch A as for some unknown reason it appears to be killing the CPUs or bricking the motherboards that have this update installed on them.
Going to post a couple of links related to this

So last night I decided to update to 1001 bios version. Everything went great updated completed, restarts does some other update for couple seconds then blank screen and my fans continue to ramp up and down with a Q-code of 00. I let it sit there for couple hours and nothing. Since then I have done ...
I ended up going with the i7-13700K and that SSD lisquie recommended
No. Its not on the service

It would be cool if there It would be cool if there was an Windows 10 that was like Windows 7.... here's how it should be made
Things that are from Windows 7 that are added:
- Purble Place

- Aero & transparent things
- Windows 7 wallpaper
Things that that are from Windows 10 that will be removed
- The IE from Windows 10
- Microsoft Edge
Thongs oops i meant Things that are not from Windows but will be added

you could achieve this with a linux distro
uhh i need some help my xbox gamebar on pc windows 11 is greyed out and no captures options in settings
Rise of the Ronin coming to Steam March 11th
Is that ps5 game something like ghost of tsushima?
think so, I dont know much about it tbh, just saw Koei Tecmo post it on youtube, the release trailer
think they had their earnings report today
is there anyway to play PC games on X|S w out paying/waiting for GeForce ? lmk pls
Doesn't it have a free tier or trial?
Yes
it does & i have it but the free tier makes you watch ADs to stay in queue & then puts you behind 50+ players waiting on the same rig
and you only get a full hour of playtime daily so 20 mins of my 1 hour is spent waiting on my rig
Well, yeah. If you're not going to pay with money you'll pay with your time, effort or data.
i know thats why i wanted to know if theres an alternative to geforce on X|S
Not for free, no
what about that you pay
any alternatives to geforce that require payment
like steam, is steam usable on X|S
no
U could always try ultimate for cloud gaming
Amazon Luna
Forgot about that ubisoft had something similar right?
lol whats this n how
Ultimate is console streaming though, not PC
meaning i cant run PC games on it ?
No, it’s console games
Ubisoft uses Luna
Oh
use geforce now
They're asking for alternatives to GeForce Now.
Well of course geforce now free tier is gonna be bad and there is no better cloud streaming option for pc unfortunately
Watch the latest Hogwarts Legacy video for the reveal that the latest update brings PC Modding to the action RPG. The video shows what you can expect from this update, where PC Modding will now be officially supported with the release of the Hogwarts Legacy Creator Kit and in-game Mod Manager.

I thought pc modding was a thing in the game?
Oh
I might yet try to get my hands on a 5090 FE. Though it won't be at launch
i thought u r trying to stay away from upgrading for a bit
was but the temptation is getting me thinking about it haha
bc windows 10 still works
hi
Yep, no reason to upgrade anytime soon.
love it when devs do this
of course it does, but its EoL soon. a new windows 10 now wouldn't make any sense when its going to be unsupported for most users by october
that means no security updates or anything
I cannot get my xbox controller to work with my windows 11 machine. It worked for a while then stopped. So I got one of those xbox wireless usb sticks and it worked until today. I think the stick might be fried. How can I get my controller to work with windows 11 like it was before?
have you got another controller to try
Hi i am thinking of downloading Indiana Jones for my new gaming laptop its RTX 4050 and since i am very new to PC/laptop gaming i am wondering if i should download the Higher Resolution Textures which is an extra 40 GB, should i?
If you want it to look better, sure.

https://www.techpowerup.com/review/nvidia-geforce-rtx-5080-founders-edition/ 5080 FE reviews are live
might still consider the 5080 instead. 5090 is far too much and the power requirements would likely mean getting another power supply, which I'd rather not do lol. Decisions, decisions...
5080 and 5080 saying this buy me subzero u need me
nah, passing on both on them. Not that impressed with the gains vs a 7900 XTX. First time I'll be skipping new GPUs from both AMD and Nvidia
this will just make me all the more eager to make a return to having an Nvidia GPU though as I really don't know what is going on at AMD. 9070 series has become a bit messy. Though one thing I don't expect is for it to match or beat a 7900 XTX, hence the skipping of AMD's upcoming GPUs
finally some news on Spider-Man 2! Was beginning to worry we were about to hear that it was being delayed
Damn, I think this is the first game I've seen which requires a 4090.
Thanks
np
really? was it either 4080 or 4080 ti?
Was what those cards?
im just asking were the other pc specs say 4080 or 4080 ti for max settings i just dont remember pc specs for every game lol
4080 is the highest I've seen before now.
Nice that they're adding things, but I just want separate trophy lists.
Optional sign in was what a lot of people were wanting so that’s good they are changing that
Assume they will be able to sell in more regions again now as well
Looks like it favours Nvidia but will be interesting to see the benchmarks
ofc it is especially with dlss4 releasing tomorrow along with their new 50 series
wonder why they didnt add in forbidden west or ghost of tsushima tbh but since they got majority of the ports that need psn thats fine
Not sure, probably will be added in a second wave maybe
does anyone want a code game pass 1 month? (if yes come and deprive)
Feel free to just post it here
Indiana Jones also listed the 4090
I suppose the 4090 is only being recommended for the "ultimate ray tracing" mode as it is (as of right now at least) the most powerful GPU available with ray tracing. Though in about 14-15 hours from this post Nvidia will have "launched" their 5080 and 5090 GPUs and the 5090 will be the most powerful GPU for ray tracing
Hey, does anyone have any advice on how I can talk to my friends through the Xbox Party chat on PC? Every time I invite/join a party it shows my friends disconnected and me connecting.
my laptop is intel core i5 1st generation. Can it connect with the xbox console?
for remote gaming?
yes
i dont see why not? the pc/laptop specs dont matter for remote gaming only ur internet connection
just as long u could install the xbox app on it
these ray tracing gpu recommendations dont make sense
are any benchmarks available for this game?
game just released about hour and a half ago
Hi just got a game through the Xbox website but it's not showing up in my xbox app, how do i fix this?
I'm sure there will be plenty of benchmarks for the game over the next few days
Did you buy a game that was available on PC?
hmm it was a free game thing im not sure
i would check what you brought. You likley brought a xbox console game or the console version
Did u try spiderman 2 yet. Im dling the game now. Went to lunch with fam
yeah, so far so good seems to run really good. Nixxes keep on doing such a good job with these PlayStation ports
I thought with Xbox's delivery system, if you buy or claim a free game on the Xbox website (PC), you also get it on your console, and vice versa
Not all products are available on both PC or console. Additionally, only Xbox Play Anywhere games are cross-buy.
The store page you claimed the game from should tell you if the product is for PC, console, or both
Okay tyvm for the reply and info. It does have the smart delivery icon but is that only for consoles?
No talking about those here.

I've basically done everything that comes up on all the windows support forums and nothing has worked. i get party invites on the app on my phone but not on my pc. I get messages but not invites. kinda funny how much this issue comes up and all the windows support says is hey did you uninstall it and reinstall it?

Marvel Rivals is still going hot
wouldnt be suprised if you say the characters are hot next.
Yes. Human Touch is suppose to be coming next. He’s literally fire.

Hey
@main ether
what
Hi
upscaled and with frame generation enabled? This is getting out of hand. Anyone remember when we didn't need either upscaling or frame generation to achieve 60+ FPS in games? Ever since Nvidia announced their RTX GPUs I feel things have gone downhill from there. I don't mind upscaling too much, its more the frame generation feature that allows up to 4x the fake frames to be rendered. That 200 FPS or whatever might look nice on some performance monitoring OSD but it certainly won't feel like 200 FPS
Based off what I have seen from the benchmark which is out it runs pretty good actually
might check it out but recommending players use both upscaling and frame generation just to reach 60 FPS at selected presets doesn't look great and monster hunter being the kind of game it is that demands players have quick responses, it all sort of counters that in some sense since frame generation will add so much latency. Of course there are ways to combat it but not enabling it from the start would be the most optimal from a responsiveness side
Utterly ridiculous minimum specs! It should say Ryzen 7 2700X with GTX 970, HDD for 720p@60FPS.
Pretty much all modern games require SSDs now
And they shouldn't because it creates ewaste and elitism.
tbh the CPU specs sound about what you'd expect today and the GPU requirements are a bit on the lower side compared to some games and their PC requirements. SSD being required is due to DirectStorage and without it games will take some time to load up. Good thing is it doesn't have to be the fastest SSDs as I believe even SATA SSD are supported by DirectStorage and the cost of those or the faster still M.2 SSDs isn't really that bad until you look at the latest in M.2 speeds, that being gen 5 so I certainly don't think there is any elitism at play. e-waste on the other hand? I'm sure those HDD can find uses elsewhere
Like for movies and tv shows going forward ssds will be a requirement
I know several people who are lagging in spiderman 2 cause they play it on a hdd not ssd lol
I'm not convinced that requiring 6GB+ of VRAM and an SSD minimum is a good thing for games. You can have DirectStorage while supporting harddrives like in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. SSDs should be reserved for Windows. SSDs for games needs to remain optional instead of being mandatory. I think minimum specs should list 8 core CPUs instead of 6GB GPUs going forward. Especially for higher frame rates.
all of that seems pretty normal now unfortunately and with how consoles have switched to SSDs I think is why devs list an SSD as being recommended since they know it will load fast, like on console but use a HDD and it won't be optimal. 6 core CPUs are still plenty for minimum spec
How is a 6 core CPU plenty? Do you think my cross gen bias is "too strong?"
I just mean it will be enough to get things working. Optimally I would go 8 cores but 6 cores should be a minimum today seeing as that is a configuration both AMD and Intel offer
And how are 6GB GPUs "not too crazy" to get someone in the door? Why not 2 or 4?
it just doesn't seem that crazy now. There are games that push 8GB+ on the minimum now that is a little crazy to me but is just a sign of the times as the VRAM on GPUs increases as will it do so on the requirements. Same goes for RAM. 16GB should be considered the minimum for most games now with the recommended being 32GB
oops

Honestly, I was surprised by the VRAM efficiency in Starfield. And when buying GPUs, I only care about VRAM and wattage. I'd rather just stick to 8GB for pushing the graphical limits of older games. I'd be willing to compromize more on the system RAM, though. And with storage, I only care about the capacity. Not the speed.
Ok what's better on pc, xbox game bar or xbox app?
There pc shtuff is pretty confusing..
Can anyone help me with my Xbox Kinetic V1 when I can't get the picture to appear on my PC?
its time to upgrade from your ancient near e waste its okay ❤️
a 10400 being a minimum from 720p upscale 1080p 30fps shouldnt be shocking imo
i mean sure the games cooked but its still an old cpu
because 2GB VRAM isnt something we have seen for over a decade and is completely foolish when we have much more powerful gpus
caring exclusively about the VRAM and wattage doesn't make any sense when theres RX 7600 XT 16GB and 4060 Ti 16GB that get absolutely gapped in performance by GPUs with less VRAM and similar power draw
just realised its the same person i replied to 3 times. i dont mean to go after you or anything lol
i mean you have to remember that what you want isnt what everyone wants or what matters. it makes sense that newer games are going to try to push the latest and best hardware because theyll see more improvements with that, and a lot of users dont want to play at 720p 30fps but rather 1440p or 4K
even competitive players are willing to spend $500 on just cpus and several hundred on gpus just for 1080p
anyway i dont see how ssds can lead to elitism. theyre incredibly cheap to buy and are easily the biggest upgrade one can make (moving fron a HDD to an SSD, that is)
they get even cheaper when your goal is just to game and not anything that requires an actually good ssd
theres many cases of gen 3 ssds being better than gen 5 ssds for gaming
Not really a fan of frame gen and upscaling being in the specs charts either. Upscaling should probably have a separate column.
that i can agree with
although its not like theres much to hate with NoVideos DLSS
looks better than native sometimes
id have to find the page but i believe it was gamers nexus that said that
I always felt features like upscaling and frame generation would always be optional but it seems more and more games are pushing boundaries to the point they need upscaling to be active in some way for reasonable performance but idk what use frame generation has other than to show off to friends or the world "oh look, 100 FPS isn't this amazing?" when in reality that is either 50 FPS without frame generation active at 2x or 25 FPS at 4x
I have 8GB GPUs (RTX 3050 OEM and 4070 Mobile) and they run Halo Infinite on ideal settings just fine.
thats not due to the VRAM but rather the fact halo infinite isnt a hard game to run
What I care about is making sure those with significantly weaker hardware than mine can play the latest titles.
im interested. how do you intend on making that happen?
at a certain point you have to face reality and accept certain hardware is simply outdated
Outdated hardware should not equal e-waste. I have an idea for a game engine that can do just that. Compressing VRAM needs to be a priority for devs. To scale from ancient hardware to future counterparts would be very helpful.
VRAM isnt the only thing you should be accounting for though
there are tons of GPUs that have a lot more VRAM than they can actually utilise in gaming loads because theyre simply too slow
Can you explain? I don't think your argument has any merit because it seems like some devs don't care about VRAM at all. Such as Ubisoft.
outdated hardware isnt necessarily e waste but you shouldnt really be expecting the newest titles to be catering towards 10+ year old hardware.
VRAM doesnt directly correlate to a GPUs performance and there are lots of situations a GPU has more VRAM than it can actually utilise, rendering its 16GB (or whatever it has) near useless
thnx:)
i mean sure a lot of new AAA titles are eating up VRAM but that doesnt totally mean theyre targetting that. may just be a consequence of poor optimisation, or players using Ultra preset textures.
Sounds like the Arc B580. I don't know what a GPU with an overkill VRAM count is doing costing $250.
B580 actually very often utilises its 12GB of VRAM
im on about other examples such as the 16GB RX 7600 XT or the 16GB 4060 Ti
the 4060 Ti having a lot of VRAM is very often irrelevant in games, but is actually useful for something like stable diffusion
the 7600 XT just has a lot of VRAM for bandwidth reasons, not to make games go brr
What I'm saying is that anything more than 2-8GB is overkill for 1080p or 720p. Especially for older and indie titles in most cases. I'm not seeing how the 16GB variant of the 4060 Ti cannot handle let's say Horizon: Forbidden West on the highest settings. It's got the VRAM for it. Maybe just not enough CUDA cores?
2GB being overkill for 1080p is ludicrous and we are actually starting to see games lean towards 12GB, even without playing at Ultra across the board.
i dont think its reasonable for me to comment on 720p gaming in 2025
the CUDA cores are not going to affect its gaming experience
Last 2GB card I had was over 10 years ago now
U cant expect ac shadows to run on a 2gb card
For my game development, I want to aim at what AAA titles we're requiring 5-10 years ago just with heftier CPU requirements.
the 4060 Ti is a relatively slow GPU, performing nearly identical to the 3070 or the 2080 Ti at 1080p
I remember 2GB was already having issues in 2014 games let alone anything newer
Shadow of Mordor and doom 2016 looks terrible at 1080p on 2GB
Do people even play games in 720p in 2025
That's not what I was saying. I wasn't talking about that title.
majority of people dont consider it a gaming resolution in 2025 and in a lot of professional reviews 720p is actually referred to as a synthetic benchmark despite it being a real game load, simply due to the fact that theyre only testing it to push the CPU and RAM without having to have a GPU in the way
I have played at 1080p on desktop. I just don't like sacrificing high framerate for better visual quality. I think of 60 or so FPS as feeling more realistic overall.
its cool that you dont like to give up the high frame rates for the sake of visual quality but that is not what is globally accepted and countless people would rather play at 1440p or 4K
especially if theyre spending a lot of money on a faster GPU, such as a 4080 or a 7800XT
i myself play at 1440p (only because the 4K OLED i wanted wasnt in stock) on my 4080 S
Why has anybody abandoned 720p en masse? I think it's as decent as 1080p. Especially for TVs on console.
i dont mean to be rude but i cannot tell if youre just trying to bait or if youre serious
I'm serious. No bait.
its 2025. good 720p monitors dont exist anymore and even the cheapest used GPUs are more than capable of running 1080p
If a GPU cant fully utilize all the VRAM it has, it just wont. Most AMD GPUs rely on the extra VRAM for bandwidth. https://imgur.com/2CrjAw4
did you forget 1440p
i would argue that 1440p is moving towards the new standard tbh
I said 1080p to 4k. 1440p is included
ah yes. read that as "or"
Last time I had a 720p display was around 2007 I think
I dont even own a 720p monitor in years probably 10 years
thats probably because theyre basically e waste at this point
None of mine even work anymore they just died of old age lol
although i still own (and use!) a 1080i50hz TV because why not
When I see an 8GB GPU as minimum, I usually assume that the game has not been optimized enough. As well as lack of VRAM efficiency.
you cant be looking at the GPU by its VRAM capacity
thats your fatal mistake here
you cannot break down a GPUs performance just by looking at its VRAM capacity
there are a lot of cards that have 8GB! you could be talking about a 3070, a 4060 Ti, a 6600, an A750..
Ive got an older TV here for some old consoles and equipment. Nice having component and VGA etc for the old stuff
Or if the game has forced rt
Forced raytracing needs to stop. That's a sign of a lack of VRAM efficiency.
I had a 3070 before and felt like I didn’t get the most out of it with 8GB for sure. Always either had to turn down textures or resolution and RT.
forced ray tracing doesnt even affect most people considering you can go all the way back to Maxwell and still run ray traced games
3070 and 10GB 3080 were definitely pranked by NoVideo with the VRAM capacities lol
theyre still great performers though
Yeah I got the 3080ti on a sale a couple years ago and sold off the 3070 this was before 40 series was out so was worth the 200 or so cost.
I'd say the same about the RX 580, Vega 56, Arc A310, GTX 650 Ti, 1070, 2060 Super, etc.
great performers at what?
not a single one of those GPUs is even included in modern benchmarks from TPU or GN or any of the sorts
Only reason i went with 6800xt over 3080 cause my 6800xt was like 500 cheaper than the 3080 let alone ti version in 2022
if an RX 580 still works just fine for you then thats cool, i have no problem with that. but trying to push them into 2025 by saying "newer cards and games are just bad optimisation" is silly talk. theyre all several years old. RX 580 being almost 9 years old
Totally agree. Most cards that age havent had driver updates in years
9 year old GPUs should not be left out to dry for 1080p@60FPS in modern titles. Let alone AA ones.
they arent. youre still capable of playing the newer titles. just dont expect much at all ultra settings
What was considered AAA a decade ago should be allowed to be considered AA today.
absolutely not
the newest GPUs today gaps absolutely any GPU that was released a decade ago
Try a level or so
any decade old GPU doesnt even come close to comparing to a 5090, for example
its very cool that you appreciate old hardware but seriously, theyre old and outdated
Same with cpus
dont even begin with CPUs. did you see the whole "issues" with the B580? its simple fix was to just.. not be using 6+ year old CPUs
That 2500K lasted forever I remember lol. CPUs were just stuck at 4C8T for like 6 years
I like pairing newer CPUs with older GPUs!
I dont understand that logic
hes playing at 720p
it makes a lot of sense
you could buy an RX 6600 for all that matters and still likely never face issues at 720p
I plays on 144p
I prefer 720p quality image even at 1080p if it means getting higher frame rates with lower settings like in Forspoken.
bro plays in a potato
you should probably just consider buying literally any GPU made in the last few years. doesnt even have to cost much. enjoy 1080p native at 60+ fps
Also for the record, my current laptop screen is 1200p. And I'm sticking with Ampere on desktop and Lovelace on laptop for the time being.
Iam gonna get 50 series laptop this or next year
5080 is my decision
nice
Cuz of college i gotta choose laptop otherwise i would have gone for desktop
Nice im guessing thats a 2k laptop
I do have a 1080p monitor on desktop. Just for a record. I was referring to not just monitors per se. But also, image quality.
Yep ig
Probably time to upgrade my RAM and GPU
upgrade ram how
a capacity upgrade wont improve performance unless youre actually maxing ram
buying faster ram doesnt really make much sense when youd likely just be better off overclocking your current ram
yeah, I know. Just my specs are better than my friends, besides the RAM, and her performance is better than mine. I don't know what's happening.
uhh
youre playing at a much higher resolution than her
shes playing at 1080p and has a significantly better CPU than you
its not rocket science as to why she gets the bigger numbers
what benchmark is this anyway
she also has frame gen enabled lol
i guarantee you the ram is absolutely not the problem here
in fact, there is no problem
think I'll give this benchmark a go on my system tonight
if youre gonna benchmark and youre not actively like a benchmark obsessed weirdo awesome person just grab 3dmark demo on steam
I don't know why I over looked that. Thank you. I'll just look into upgrading the CPU.
it's the game's benchmark test
oh sick
happens to the best of us
considering youre on ultra wide 1440p id probably just think about a 5600/5700x3d
wouldnt bother spending hundreds on a new motherboard and ram when itd be better spent on a gpu
yeah, I can't ball out for a new gpu right now. just want it bump up to hold me for 2 years for when I can do a full new pc.
yeah id either just go for a 5600 or just rock your 2700 till you upgrade
I like to crank graphics settings to max but will run the Monster Hunter Wilds benchmark at both 1080p and 4K maxed settings, no upscaling or frame generation active
Kind of wish shader compiling could be tasked in the background while you could still get into the game without having to wait on that stuff finishing. Though I know performance will be rather wacky until it completes
im gonna ignore the last part and just say "ewww"
huh?
4K test complete. Now to go and run it at 1080p. Be right back
1080p test complete. Same settings
Shader compilation step took like 15 minutes for me on the benchmark lol, think I’d step it down to 1440p on the 3080Ti as 4K was a bit too much even with DLSS.
Very heavy on the GPU side. Basically have to play it at 1080p medium if I don’t want any drops under 60fps. DLSS it bumps up to 1440p. That chart seems a bit misleading because technically you can do all that at 4K frame gen but not the best result
They also had frame gen on which inflates the numbers while yours doesn’t seem to have it enabled
im the same my 6800xt and fsr at 1080p. i will probably skip this in never played much of mh world or even brought/played rise at all
I’ll be getting this one on ps5 anyway as most people I know will be playing there and a bit less hassle but was interesting to test out anyway. RE engine games seem to be a mixed bag in PC RE4 was probably one of the better ones.
i played re games on pc with mods pretty simple to use them
It's far less popular than AOE2 and AOE4 so I guess it makes sense

Hah, no. Live service elements getting them more money isn't what would make it a success. That would definitely have resulted in fewer overall sales.
Biggest complaints I’ve heard about it have been around the dialogue and poor writing but I’ve yet to play it yet
Will probably wait for it to come on ea access
same
hey man this is a CEO saying it. if they say it that means its true! its totally not because theyre making bad products or anything
BioWare are probably on thin ice with EA now, they have had several games not meet the mark of what made the studio great in a row. Same with Dice so will be interesting to see what happens next
Haven't seen much love for Mirror's Edge from them lately. Maybe if they developed a sequel to Catalyst featuring gunplay instead of the always online dumpsterfire Battlefield 2042. And especially since it has no campaign. Bloody shame.
Still not played catalyst yet, I enjoyed the original Mirrors Edge
yo guys can someone help me with a problem i have while i try to install fh5 on my pc?
this was handled in another chat for people who want to try and poke it lol
GOG Codes:
Bioshock Infinite - 3TLR48F97F9C0235F0
The Talos Principle: Gold Edition - HPT49DB78DC145AE29
ty for the games hehehehe
Do you need controler for cloud gaming on pc?
For most games, yes. There's a selection that can be played with KB&M, but not all games.
Cloud gaming uses the console version of games
Yo can someone help me, when i try to install fh5 on another disk except C it wont let me and will change back to disk C ive already tried modifying the ownership of the other disks and tried installing from microsoft store but nothing seems to be working

! BRO LOOK STEAM DID
Looking a a WH game and wondering if any of them are good/worth it or if it's s fun game in general
What's everyone's CPU/GPU combo these days?
I'm on a Ryzen 7 5800x / eVGA RTX 3070 FTW3
10900K and 3080Ti
Ryzen 7 9800X3D and 7900 XTX
i9-13900K, RTX 4090
I keep going between wanting to try and get a 5090 and not, though one of my friends who builds PCs recently managed to get their hands on a 5090 and told me enough to potentially want to avoid it
nice!, I do plan on getting a 5070 ti this year at somepoint
Why to avoid it?
a lot are being bricked right now, even though its mainly the 5090D variant that meant for the chinese market
for a discussion I had with them from earlier today
and to top it off the price of it puts me off quite a bit so yeah, its a bit of a tug of war in my head but I think I'm leaning towards avoiding the 5090 by the day
Hmm well I guess there is no need to rush as you already have a high end card anyway. Maybe if there are some driver issues they will clear them up soon. I usually like to wait a few months just to avoid those things where I can
yeah, this is in no way an urgent purchase. I'd be taking my time, potentially a few months yet before I pull the buying trigger on one but another concern I do have is the overall power draw. My friend has a device that he connected to the wall outlet that reads power draw and it was exceeding 1000W! (about 750W of that was the 5090 alone lol) going to find the picture, it had that server going crazy 😄
😱
Sounds like the energy bill will be expensive with that at full load
I suppose 1200w would make sense just to be in the clear
i mean its a brand new gpu
drivers arent the best for it
its completely unsupported in some things such as stable diffusion
I wouldn’t get a FE anyway tbh
Just finished New Vegas, that was a fun title
Why not considering it is amongst the cheapest and is no less of a 5090 than any others. I would grudge paying the prices some AIB partners have set for their cards, like the £2800 ASUS ROG Astral. Honestly could care less if it is a better cooler, there is no way you will see me spend another £860 or so (vs the £1939 on the FE) for a cooler that is much thicker and makes the card even longer too
If I was to go through with a 5090 purchase still I’d be keeping the cost as close to the FE pricing as I can as I would also have to look at another power supply too. Failing that I won’t bother and instead look towards what’s next
its a must-play for anyone who likes RPGs IMO
I Want Game Pass 1 Month
ok? it is pretty popular
I want it for one month
I didn't understand you

Those cards are for the enthusiasts who care about overclocking rather than just gaming, so getting 5-15% extra performance matters in benchmarks.
I feel my tone with that message was kind of off earlier 😦
but yeah, all I'm interested in is gaming at the highest possible settings (that currently doesn't include ray tracing or path tracing) at 4K. Never really been one for overclocking as I simply believe the hardware should run fine out of the box
some people also just value their own desired aesthetics enough to pay more
algm gang beasts?
Have they solved the power connector problem yet? Because I was never buying an 80 or 90 class card, but if I were, I'd want to be real sure it wouldn't catch fire.
they were never technically issues with the connector itself
people weren't putting it in properly leading to issues with it. issues become worse when youre pumping more heat through it. although the newer 12V-2X6 "fixes" this more by shortening the sense pins, meaning its harder to have the cable loose and still work
I have reason to doubt this narrative, but OK.
whats your reason?
i mean, im sure some people just had issues with it despite having it properly flush, but a lot of the time it seemed to be either ridiculously unsafe overclocking, or just loose connections + high heat
I've seen post-mortem examinations and experiments on a variety of cards on YouTube, where they concluded (I couldn't personally say) that wasn't the problem. That the connector design is the problem, not user error. I'm taking their word on it because they sounded like they were making convincing case. That and, I just don't believe that many faults were all user / builder error.
there was a user not too long ago who posted their cable melting, but its shown through their post history that they state several times they just lazily overclocked their gpu
We've never had this many faults before, and we've never had 12vhpr before.
a loose 6+2 is a lot safer than a loose 12vhpwr
We've also never had cards drawing 450 watts before, of course.
the pins on the different connections are yknow, different
Sure! A 6+2 can only supply 150 watts allowing a TDP of 225 in total though.
I guess you can have 2x 6+2 meaning what is that, 375 watts TDP?
Am I right in recalling the slot gives 75 watts?
slot gives 75 yes
i mean, i still think that it was silly for nvidia to push a new connection for their new high power gpus without making it "idiot proof". but the new 12v-2x6 is basically that
I sure do hope so.
its not like the 4060 or the 4070 uses the 12vhpwr. if it did, im sure it would prove more towards it being a "user error" in the sense that its the cable being loose in combination with high heat being the issue
FYI the YouTuber I trust is Gamer's Nexus. They really seemed to suggest that in their opinion the controller was of a faulty design.
yeah, gamers nexus is very legitimate.
While I will admit that I am not in the market for 80-class nVidia cards for budgetary reasons, I am honestly rather glad to not have faced these kinds of choices.
My PC is more modest in cost, and performance... so this is all very academic to me.
you also have to keep in mind that compared to how many units were sold, the amount that faced melting connector issues was little
ive been using a 4080 super with a native 12vhpwr near enough since release
although, the PSU im using (A850GL unfortunately) has the pins coloured yellow, so its a lot easier to see if the cable is loose or flush
My perspective has been skewed by the fact I've known people who had this happen.
yeah, i doubt that helps things
its pretty difficult to believe something if you can see the opposite first hand
Have you seen the GN coverage at all?
yeah i browse their page often
They don't exactly hold back on their opinion of the standard.
they dont hold back on any of their opinions, its pretty cool
Yeah, this is true. Even when talking about people they consider friends, they are willing to be savage about what that person gets wrong.
i think 12vhpwr is gross, dont get me wrong. but its definitely a heightened issue if people are using it loose
technically the newer nvidia adapter that comes with 50 series is safer than using a native 12vhpwr from your psu
but adapters are ugly lol
If I end up with a spare 2k sometime in the next few years I'll make that choice. 😉
hah yeah, the newer gpus are very expensive. although the market currently just isnt a good spot, at least not in the US
high demand and low stock. doesnt really end well for the prices
I know this ain't everyone... but I'm really very OK with what I have which is excellent performance for 1080p-1440p in most games with high-but-not-ultra.
Oh and I'm also fine with 60Hz over 120 or more. It lets me do what I want, for less.
chasing ultra settings when theyre often nearly identical to high has never been something thats made sense to me, but im not gonna stop people from doing what they want 😛
Some people in this channel want 4k Ultra HDR RTX On, and if it bring them joy I can't say a bad word about it.
i bought my 4080 with the intent of playing at 4K, but the monitor i was hoping to get went out of stock around the time of purchase.
i was too lazy to go browsing RTINGS for covered 4K monitors again so i just went with a G2724D and now use 1440p.
not too bad though. im able to crank everything up to max if i wanted and run frames im pretty happy with
And lately I got a ROG Ally to play on the go, that's only further killed my desire to push higher.
At this point, a satisfying game at low specs is a joy of its own.
oh sick. i was considering a rog ally not too long ago, but i never caved in.
what games do you play on it?
I've been playing Atelier Ryza, Soulstone Survivors, Borderlands 2, Euro Truck Sim all running very nicely.
I will say that it chokes and dies if you try to play Hardspace: Shipbreaker.
That's gonna be a slideshow for some reason.
I've not had it long.
very nice
i dont think i could justify one for my current played games, at least not over a switch 2... whenever that releases
I don't think I'll be getting Switch 2. For me the problem is that I'm never willing to pay the price for Nintendo releases.
I have very few games for Switch 1.
And never go on sale.
Yeah I'm not a fan of buying games at full price.
is it just me or does mh wilds benchmarks looks so misleading compared to pc specs?
depends if im a fan of the ip/series
True.
would buy any of the ff7 reboot full price same with ac series
I would pay a lot for something like a Forza Horizon game but not for the average FPS game
16K 1,000Hz Dolby Vision PTX Ultra ON or nothing
Hardware does run fine out of the box - but the whole point of paying extra for those more expensive GPUs with upgraded thermals and power is that firstly - out of the box you’re getting better cooling and performance. Secondly, there’s room to squeeze even more out of it with some simple button clicks.
Guys does anyone have some knowledge about steam gift cards if yes I need help to buy one from Australia that can be accepted internally by anyone
never brought one out of country sorry
please dont post in multipe channels. you recieved an answer in the main chat already
Oh okay
Hm I can't buy any gift card like Xbox or steam or any
no , because they are region locked.
Oh why is that? So I can't buy it from any website
There are usually laws about it, or whatever. So no you can't lol
Hm can I buy and share Minecraft as gift to an email or not possible as well?
not really possible. I'd suggest sending the money (if for xbox) via some other way and letting them buy it
or on steam you can buy the game and gift it directly in the purchase spot
Hm I Wana make a cash app or PayPal but can't
Oh okay hm
What does cash app require?
depends on the country both users are in though but i assume you know this
forgot to turn @ off gg
So, what is the point in buying a new desktop every 5 years instead of 10?
Newer hardware I'd imagine.
what TOP5 strategy games/series are your favouret? for me in this order 1. Age of Empires 2. Rise of Nations 3. Age of Mythology 4. Warcraft 5. Starcraft
ask the people that are buying. its their choice so theyd also have their own reasons 🤷♀️
usually though it just comes down to faster hardware
people get unhappy with performance. instead of waiting 5 more years for nothing they just buy it then and there
Not really my thing but i would go starcraft
I'm on steam, How do i sign out of my Xbox account on forza?
there's this error where I can't connect to the online things and I wanna try and fix that
forza 4 btw
I mean I signed out
but like do y'all know ways to fix that
NVM IT WORKED :D
i have a xbox game pass code fpr 1 month for pc if anyone wants it dm me
looks like there are some reports coming through of connectors melting on the 5090. Definitely not touching that GPU
so basically 4090 2.0 lol
nothing new
https://imgur.com/a/QRKGIe5
no reason to be massively concerned because some are still user error but theyre definitely still silly
just need to wait for people to realise its pci sig being stupid and not nvidia
hello, i'm new here
Can someone tell me how to install Windows?
Learn how to install Windows 11, including the recommended option of using the Windows Update page in Settings.
although the ideal method is with a USB
Yeah, I don’t see why the trusted 8 pin connector wasn’t just kept. 3x 8 pin might have looked ugly but I’d take that over a connector that has been known to melt for some time now (regardless of user error etc). This is a case of if it isn’t broken, just leave it alone. 3x 8 pin + PCIe would allow for up to 525W while remaining within spec but could go further
Well, the 5090 is stated to draw 575W but I agree in principle.
Yeah, the 5090 is the only GPU that exceeds the spec 3x 8 pin + PCIe power limits. Could have still worked for the 4090 as that was 450W while having some headroom for overclocking, if the user wished
I forgot how much power those 8 pin connectors are rated for if you wanted to go over the spec. Though something in my head is screaming at me around 280W for some reason- though by that point I guess the risk of 8 pin connectors melting increases significantly?
8 pins would also melt
How though? The 8 pin connectors are known to have a higher safety rating than the 16 pin/12vhpwr connectors and I can honestly say I have never heard of 8 pin connectors melting since I got into PC gaming back in 2016
BAPC?
8 pin PCIe power supplies a maximum of 150 watts over 8 pins. 12VHPR supplies 600 watts over 16 pins, which is a massive increase in watts for not a massive increase in pins.
r/buildapc
Double the pins / conductors, quadruple the load. Not to mention that four of those pins are much smaller than the other 12.
I'm curious to measure the pin spacing / wire gauge on both, but I don't know if I could get an accurate reading.
I don't see why a revision of the 8 pin connector couldn't have happened that might have somehow allowed it to use more power without exceeding the spec like 150W is the spec limit but if there was a way to increase that even to 225W with a revision. 3x 8 pin with such a configuration would exceed the 5090 requirements of 575W as 3x 225W + 75W comes out to 750W but ofc I guess there are reasons why such a thing never happened or it would have
I'm gonna guess that it would need to be a different connector. Similar, but different.
See, I think that maybe they'd use a heavier gauge wire for the higher load, and maybe they'd want to be absolutely sure that wasn't gonna get an old cable plugged into it.
Can't be sure, but I feel like you don't want to take chances... except hey, look where we ended up so what do I know?
all seems a bit messy with the 12vhpwr connector. As long as you don't touch the flagship tier GPUs (4090 or 5090) things seem alright as I don't think I've heard of any issues surrounding the lower end SKUs but I may be wrong there
i saw this actually its kinda silly
its not trying to use the side ones so it just reaches big numbers
still, those sorts of reading are scary. Nvidia claimed the connector melting issue should be a thing of the past days before the 5090 launched. I just see how selling GPUs at $1500+ (4090 and now 5090) where the connectors can melt is unacceptable. I thought all sorts of meticulous testing went into ensuring these flagship GPUs had very little that could go wrong with them. I just don't buy it that most of the connector melting issues has been a result of "user error". Those buying these cards should know how to handle them properly, is that Nvidia calling out their own enthusiast buyers as idiots or something? Sorry for going all ranty with this
cd
True, but you underestimate people. Not saying it's not user error, but some of those may have been.
^ you absolutely underestimate people if you think spending a lot of money means theyll make sure they do it properly
youd be very surprised how many times people post photos of things asking if its in properly and half the pins are loose
Hey, I tried to play Minecraft but its telling me waiting on install and its been like that for around 30 mins now? What could be the problem?

I'm not so well aware of how software implementations work In gpus, but is there any actual reason why dlss 4 cannot run on rtx 4000 series cards?
GOG:
The Smurfs 2 -> FCS548E89EA3B210EC
it can
i was using DLSS4 earlier on my 4080 S lol
i understand that this isnt you blaming NVIDIA but i saw this from JKIN earlier today in BAPC. it lines up with what i said previously, about it being PCI SIGs issue and not nvidias. https://imgur.com/a/dKfQvPp
im not sure if thats just a silly image they used on the thumbnail but i doubt that triple adapter helps much. it looks like lian li strimer -> nvidia adapter -> psu? doesnt look like the smartest thing to do
https://imgur.com/a/ufjhsrO
DLSS4 is available to every RTX card, with the new MFG being 50 exclusive
Ah, is there a reason why mfg is only for 50 series?
Can rtx 40 series hardware not support it?
yeah, that triple adapter really isn't wise haha but that connector really needs to be reconsidered. In trying to minimize the number of cables required to connect a GPU it has created an issue that could render very expensive GPUs (and possibly power supplies too) useless. Originally I was blaming Nvidia but now I understand that isn't the case. Still terrifies me to no end that both the 5080 and 5090 can be affected though and I doubt Nvidia will change back to 8 pin connectors now either 😦
if I had any of the affected GPUs where the 12vhpwr connector is known to melt I'd be making sure I stick to the recommendations and not fooling around with any daisy chaining of connectors. Recommendations seem to be to either use the provided adapter that should be found in the box with the GPU or if the power supply you have has support for it a native 12vhpwr (600W rated for the 5090) connector to use that instead
in other PC gaming news though. RDNA 4 is imminent!
Always love new shiny PC hardware announcements
GTA 6 coming March 👀
HOW EXZACTLLY DO YOU PLAY GAMESON HERE
Like as in Discord activities?
I recommend the following games for PC this year:
Age of Empires: Definitive Edition 1-4 + all DLC
Age of Mythology Retold
Rise of Nations: Extended Edition
Doom: The Dark Ages
GTA6
GTA 6 isn't releasing on PC this year.
It hasn't even been confirmed for PC yet. I'm sure it will release on PC, but it will probably be a year or more after console release that it will make it to PC.
ok. im gonna play GTA6 on Xbox Series X

Redeemed, thank you 😂
any news regarding DLSS 4 for RTX 30 ?
I dont think you are
EA play is also on PC game pass
youre wrong
what news? it was said since day 1 youll have access to DLSS4
the only thing you cant do is use MFG
i know he was only asking about a specific game and what game pass is needed to play it on pc
I tried avowed with ray tracing on and tsr at 67 percent i got around 50ish fps on my 6800xt at 4k which isnt bad.
I've seen some comparisons between ray tracing on and off in Avowed and really can't spot the difference while the consumes so much more performance than even Epic settings
unpopular opinion with ray tracing but you know how people say not to game at ultra/maxed settings? why don't they also include ray tracing settings as they are even more demanding than anything ultra settings will throw. At least ultra won't result in losing something like two thirds of the performance for some fancy realistic puddles, lighting or shadows.
I tried yesterday with off and on rt. It doesnt look like perf takes that much of hit. Im not sure. Goes to around 60ish no rt. I would have thought it would have more a perf hit for rt. Seems very low for rt
I just bought a game for Xbox app, it shows up in my phone, but when I go to the app on pc it doesn’t show up, how do I fix this?

i5 13600k
NZXT Kraken X53 240mm AIO Cooler
msi mag z690 motherboard
22 gb ddr4 ram
That dont sound right
Nobody has 22 gigs of ram on ddr4
i just have somehow
U definitely dont mismatch ram
whats that ?
If i remember correct one of my mates has 22 gigs of ram in his laptop
How do they manage that? I never saw a system thats not either 8 16 or 32 gigs ram
Can be mistaken ofc
i dont know
It really all depends on ur budget and ur country. U may need correct ram issue could possibly cause lower perf or something
it says 22 gb ram useable i dont know it just says
As well as what games u will be running and whqt resolutions
most probably 1080
I could recommend a budget gpu but it could cost like 1000 in ur country or something
1660 super
Staying with nividia?
i dont wanna go a bit to high just a little bit of a jump
well i dont know just anything better
well i gotta go for some time like an hour or so will talk later
going out
whats 16 + 6
I thought most ram is duplicates of 8 for ddr4
6gb exists
mostly seen on laptops though
22gb on a tower is probably GiB or cache or something.
he said it was 22 useable or something
Oh. I know desktops not laptops lol

Don't use Amazon go to JB HI FI don't trust Amazon with tech.
amazon prebuilts dont tend to be good
It seems like the 50 series launch has been full of issues so far
especially the 5090s
5070 Ti also seems to have been affected by the loss of ROPs while having a larger impact to performance as a result. Estimated up to 12% loss (vs the 4% on affected 5090)
I’m glad I didn’t go any further with trying to get a 5090. Would have returned it within 48 hours with all these issues. Spend $2000+ for possibly one of Nvidia’s worst launches? No thanks
looks like every gpu launch
not sure about that. I had one of those issues listed back when the 7900 XTX launched and that was driver issues. Those can be expected with any new product launch but a lot of the other stuff I find unacceptable considering how much Nvidia are charging for these GPUs. Nvidia even claimed connector melting should have been a thing of the past (with RTX 4090) but within 20 days it is back and there has even been the odd instances of 5080 affected this time too
https://videocardz.com/newz/asus-rog-astral-rtx-5090-catches-fire-after-capacitor-blows and to top it all off. Someone's 5090 Astral that costs $3000+ has even caught fire too. ASUS don't need anymore bad press but unfortunately it looks like it is headed that way once again
ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5090: For those who dare The new ROG Astral series from ASUS is known for two things: how large these graphics cards are and how expensive they are. The RTX 5090 Astral costs more than $2800, if you are even lucky to find it in stock. Speaking of luck, Redditor Impossible-Weight485 […]
luckily Gamers Nexus appear to have contacted them and idk if they communicated since but if so we'll see what Gamers Nexus has to say about this in the coming months no doubt and they have already spat ASUS out at least twice so it really won't look good for ASUS being in the negative headlines (and in Gamers Nexus crosshairs once again, lol)
definitely waiting on 60 series at least 3 months after launch lol
Isn't all that juice being delivered over like two wires? The hell is that about.
Bad manufacturing
Ah not good news if you are about to drop 3 grand on something 😅
oh yeaa chromebook gaming time
xbox cloud, nvidia geforce now, stadia, and whatever else are going to make me a pro gamer moment

Stadia doesn’t even exist anymore lol
allmost 500h allready. i never have been play this much one game. not even half of this.
I’m waiting on 70 series, you know, just in case.
Question is will 7090 draw too much power from electrical system the way things are going or will pc needs two psus one for the gpu and another for everything else
Nah my car pulls 7.6kW so PC is fine.
How about the psus
It'll come with a Mr. Fusion reactor, there won't be a problem.
it'll be prown to meltdowns though

So you can offload RTX frame gen in the lossless scaling program to a secondary GPU
And it gets the second best latencies on the chart
Basically cuts the response latency in half towards baseline
The fact this is something that’s just possible and isn’t openly bragged about from NVIDIA is kind of insane
Turning a smaller secondary GPU into a coprocessor is somewhat what I do with my 1080ti and 1660ti but not like this

Command & Conquer is good not all of them. Age of Empire is better and all ogf them are very good
they pushing way too many Command & Conquer games and did not care quality etc.
C&C Generals was a good one IMO. As was Red Alert.
yes
.
AMD 9070 series announcement later today!
AMD’s best ever chance to take some market share off Nvidia with the state they find their RTX 50 series launch in
only if theyr prices are very cheap because nVidia have so much better cards and cheap gatecory now have Intel too. i have Intel Arch 580
DLSS4 with RTX 5000 series is so awesome
I think we're in for some surprises. Less than 3 hours and we'll know for sure
i hope too but 95% sure nothing so good come
by the way I would like to buy an arc580 b but it's a pity they don't sell it in Kazakhstan and I'm a big fan of Intel
if it costs 300 dollars then I'll buy it, if not then I'll buy the console
other than driver issues that is expected of every new launch I don't think AMD will run into the same kinds of other issues Nvidia has faced with RTX 5000 series. ROPs issue is almost laughable and seems to have affected all launched SKUs so far (5090 to the 5070 Ti) though the latest driver update claims to have fixed BSOD and black screen issues
I'm certainly drunk if I want a video card like the RTX 4080 super for 300 bucks
also, Nvidia's pricing is such a scam when both the 5070 Ti and 5080 offer barely any improvement over their predecessors. It used to be the 80 SKU would surpass the previous gen flagship. Now we see one of the smallest gen on gen increases
honestly the story with rtx 4060 and rtx 3060 was worse.RTX 4060 was made on 5nm architecture and RTX 3060 on 8nm.And there is RTX 4060 which is weaker than RTX 3060 12 GB
they give very much more FPS when you just keep DLSS4 on
no any reason not to use DLSS4
the graphics are getting much worse
no they dont. my frined have RTX 5080 and i have been seeing by my own eyes
why you think that?
Personally not a fan of frame generation, which is what Nvidia used to compare the 5070 Ti to a 4090, which was hilarious. It gets destroyed by the 4090 where neither DLSS 4 or Frame Generation is available. Though I don't mind upscaling I'd only use it in cases where I can't maintain 60+ FPS
I'm shocked by the rich! I want to be rich like you Americans.
Well, I looked at the comparison.
all games have scaling, you can't remove it, I'm talking about Taa
TAA analyzes several frames and takes data from previous frames to smooth the current one. This allows you to achieve good results with less load on the system. 3
However, TAA also has its drawbacks: excessive blurring, loss of textures and details, the need for a large amount of processor memory to save images, unstable frame rate on cheap video cards. The main disadvantage is the ghosting effect (residual image): "tails" appear around moving objects
fake frames should be compared only when rivals can also use the technology. Not to mention all 3 of those games are effectively Nvidia tech demos. One of which I've turned really sour with how they implemented FSR 3. Took them far too long for a subpar implementation while they have no issues with Nvidia's tech. A clear and obvious bias there
honestly i don't care about a fully drawn frame, tv has been able to make drawn frames for a long time
not drawing but generating
Yeah and the fake frames generated by TVs make things look terrible.
That feature/setting should not exist.
the movie in the cartoon is bad because they were originally created on a certain frame of a second I don't know how it will look in games
the GPU level stuff is meant to be pretty good, especially the new 4x option with 50 series Nvidia cards but honestly I really don't like where gaming is going if devs are going to rely heavily on these fake frames
they won't be because these frames can't be managed
"Overall, DLSS 4 offers significant performance improvements and enhances the gaming experience. However, like all technologies, it has its own limitations and potential drawbacks. Nonetheless, these drawbacks are rare and usually mild."
you need at least 30 or 60 frames in pure form, then frame generation will be used but they will feel like 30 or 60 frames under control
ideally the figure is 60 FPS minimum iirc recommended for frame generation to work properly but it will still feel like 60 FPS with perhaps worse latency, unless devs also add support for AMD, Intel and Nvidia's specific latency reducing technologies too. AMD Anti-Lag 2, Intel XeLL and Nvidia Reflex/Reflex 2
honestly boring.Would like more on PC, we waited 3 years to get higher TDP and a slight improvement in power consumption, but the problem is that many video cards break and some work 10% worse
and you can't play old games
huh?
this is generally a problem with many new video cards from nvidia
do you mean the 32 bit PhysX that Nvidia dropped with the 50 series causing issues with some older games that used the technology?
yeah
can still play them but the PhysX effects would have to be turned off so to not run into performance issues
PhysX is dead these days anyway from what I hear
I don't understand why I should think when, for example, I paid 1000 dollars on a video card
crazy to believe though that because of this change Nvidia originally didn't disclose (it was found by users, just like the ROPs issue and connector melting 2.0 issue) enabling PhysX on even something as ridiculously powerful (and expensive) as the 5090 could bring it to its knees when PhysX effects are on screen lol
