I just upgraded my bios again to the latest firmware with XMP enabled and seems to not crash at all, i think the file got corrupted somehow wich dosn't make any sense

I should have switched to AMD but nobody seem to complain about intel back in february until now...

One of the main problems Intel had was that motherboard brands were using unlimited power limits that were pushing 4096W, obviously no CPU can reach that but given the unlimited nature they were pushed to extremes that caused rapid degradation. Pair that with some of the stuff Intel has since patched with previous microcode BIOS updates and it really wasn’t pretty

luckily now that shouldn't be happening but users of 13th or 14th gen CPU will have to update the BIOS to prevent it - just make sure it isn't a beta version as it may not be completely stable yet. You want the BIOS version that mentions microcode version 0x12B as that has all the fixes applied. If you know your CPU is affected by the instability updating to the latest BIOS version won't suddenly fix it, the only course of action is to have the CPU replaced

while you aren't affected by this the whole unlimited power limits thing has been around for some time though I think it works a bit differently to how these CPUs had it. If you have an ASUS board the setting to look out for and I believe turn off is ASUS Multicore Enhancement (usually referred to as MCE) Other board makers will obviously have a different name for a similar feature but I have no experience outside of ASUS motherboards so you would have to search around a bit

Nevermind they actually didn't call me back with my issue re-activating windows, i just bought a new key from 3rd party trusted site and worked just fine now, is Windows 11 Pro retail permanent licence, before was 10 so hopefully now won't cause me any issues

the thing i noticed about the latest BIOS firmware was my CPU temps droping below 27-29C on idle wich is nice to see, i always check the temps on my AiO display XD

not sure what limitations the B760 platform has over Z790 but the latest BIOS updates should prevent instability from happen as there are parameters set more strictly than what they were prior to these updates being applied. Might be a slight cost in performance too but it really shouldn't be noticeable

All this time my AORUS Motherboard didn't come with pre-installed Serial Number provided by Gigabyte wich that's why it showed "Default string,, on my linked divices, the SN is label next to 24 pin connector and also on the box that came with. I cannot belive i didn't know this since february

That's normal, always does this even with a good internet connection. You should try enable Throttle Downloads from the Epic Games Launcher settings and set to 0 wich is unlimited.

a reminder how the 7000X3D CPUs launched (though one thing to note the 7800X3D launched a little later than the 7900X3D and 7950X3D). I think the 7900X3D proved to be a bit of a failure, mainly because it was 12 cores (6 cores each CCD) but the 7950X3D is unique imo. Having both the 3D V Cache CCD you'd find from a 7800X3D and the higher frequency CCD you get from a 7700X in one package yet even with all that going on under the IHS cooling it is easier than Intel's current flagship CPU, the i9-14900K/KS

Also try to make sure your firmware is up to date in the xbox accessories app

the 4050 is worse than the 3060 as due to its cores being reused from the old gpus that had broken during creation, such as the some of the 3060 and under, the 4060 and above uses new metal

Getting weird results for BO6 on PC at the moment, with DLSS on at 4K quality I’m actually getting worse performance than running native 4K. Seems like the implementation is buggy at the moment

In fact DLSS doesn’t even work properly unless turning sharpening off entirely otherwise it goes back to fidelity fx, definitely some issues with the current build

I've felt similar with Windows for some time (even before I started dabbling about with some Linux stuff). If not for the lack of gaming support on Linux I seriously would have considered switching by now as I have found what could become a viable alternative to Windows but yeah, the only thing I don't like is all the hoops you have to jump through at times on Linux to get some games working. Its the only thing really keeping me on Windows (as I'm sure I've said a few times now at this point)

as for security that should be free for sure. Charging for it is silly imo, especially considering how much a Windows Home/Pro license costs as is and the countless ads users face unless they subscribe to services like Microsoft 365 to go ad free in some programs

It's pretty much the bare minimum for modern high end games these days

PS5 and SX have something similar to a 3700X with the core count but zen2 is definitely aging now

5700X3D might be a nice upgrade if your board supports it

Zen 2's biggest problem was that it has both CCX and CCD, luckily in the case of an 8 core CPU (like is found on the consoles) you don't have to worry about both triggering latency penalties but you do have to worry about CCX latency penalty as Zen 2 was 2x 4c/8t CCX per CCD. Zen 3 changed that and merged the two CCX into one so there is only a CCD latency penalty to worry about if you were to go beyond 8 cores (Ryzen 9 or Threadrippers) but yeah, a 5700X3D would be the best option for a really nice improvement to performance as not only do you get what I mentioned above but the 3D V Cache does wonders for gaming performance. Excuse the pun but imo, 3D V Cache has been game changing since AMD introduced it 😄

I always target the highest, non ray tracing settings in games at 4K and a minimum of 60 FPS (though the more, the merrier). Games where I can't reach 60 FPS in I'll use upscaling down to 2x (1080p effective, should be the performance preset that does that at 4K)

I have two monitors, my main one that is 1440p and my second one that I just use for Discord/scrollin/youtube that is at 4K. They are both running from my graphics card (RTX 4070 TI). Maybe a stupid question but is there any benefit in changing the 4k monitor to like 1080p? Will it make any noticeable difference to my games that it doesn't have to render a 4K screen at the same time?

I would try to run it off the integrated graphics but that may mean enabling them from within the Bios (if you previously disabled it) and probably need an Intel graphics driver for it to work properly

Thanks! Yeah I had previously disabled so I can re-enable fairly easily (I think lol). I keep the drivers up to date for it still even though it is disabled. Will it actually increase performance though or will it be negligible?

Yeah I don’t think it uses up much GPU resource while just having basic apps open on the desktop. I remember having a GTX770 from 10 years ago which was able to run a 4K monitor just for basic apps with no issue.

Anyone playing Far Cry 3 seeing a massive performance hit after playing for only like an hour? The game runs perfectly (like 60-90+ FPS) for a while only to eventually and suddenly tank to like 15-20FPS. I've tried all manner of settings tweaks, but even lowering all the graphics settings to the minimum while the game is like this doesn't help.

Gonna try a large address aware patch to see what that does to help, I'm seeing everywhere that the game is 32bit and so it has issues when it needs more than 2 gigs of ram

Hmm, Indiana Jones doesn't seem to be respecting the fps limit applied in the menu.

I set it to a max of 144, because it was previously set to 1000 by default.

In menus it caps it at 144fps, but as soon as I unpause the game it jumps to around 220fps and that causes stutters in the game.

Hmm, whatever you set the fps limit to, it doubles when you unpause the game.

that just the FPS limit option? what about vsync? that should lock the FPS to your monitor's refresh rate at the cost of some additional latency but Indiana Jones isn't an online game (afaik at least) so that additional latency shouldn't matter too much

idk if the advice is old now or if Nvidia app/NVCP can still override it in games but I'd try setting it via either of those as some time ago I remember running into an issue with a game where with vsync enabled the FPS would still exceed my monitor's refresh rate but enabling it from within the NVCP (there was no Nvidia app back then ) override that and locked it exactly to the refresh rate. Was a good way to keep the odd game that misbehaved with vsync in check. Just be sure to then turn it off in any games you have it in use for as idk what happens when you have it enabled at both the driver level and in game

For now it's working well enough with the fps limit set to 72, as that then doubles to 144 when unpaused.

Yeah I’ve got my FPS limited to the max monitor refresh rate in Nvidia CP and then Vsync on as global with freesync.

Ah, strange. I toggled the DLSS and now the fps limit is being applied correctly.

Okay, so if you toggle DLSS frame generation on, that greys out the vsync

I'd drop the max refresh rate by 2-3Hz even with vsync enabled globally so it doesn't then hit the variable refresh rate ceiling as when it does that there is a chance some screen tearing could come back. Locking a monitor to say 120Hz with vsync at the driver level and then limiting the FPS to 117 or 118 should prevent the occasional screen tearing from happening

frame generation doesn't work with vsync or is forced on iirc

Graphics quality set to Supreme and 4K resolution.

DLSS frame generation is off, but the upscaling is set to DLSS.

i went to the xbox app and see it in my library as "my pc games" and "owned"
when i click it and says "see in microsoft store" but when i click that it says in microsoft store "this product cant be installed on this pc" even thought it literally says in the xbox app "my pc games"
