Yeah you're really not gunna get much for only $100-$200, unfortunately. Performance is likely going to be very iffy, and who knows if it'll even run what you're wanting it to.

Make really really sure it’s the right ports, audio header will have another pin blocked compared to a USB 2.0 port, but similar port, and the fan splitter if it’s like 3 pin or something make sure it’s lining up with the plastic for the 4 pin fan plug

It's pretty simple. See the plastic area around the Home button?
If that and the rest of the controller front are all one piece, it's probably newer and has Bluetooth.
If the part around the home button is slightly different type of plastic, then it is probably the first gen.

Can you see the difference? On the lower one they are both a matte finish. On the upper (older) model there's part of it which has a gloss finish.

Yeah I'm very picky when it comes to used items as well. Main exceptions here are if the thing I'm buying is super old and isn't produced new anymore (because obviously you won't get one factory new), or for things that don't necessarily need to be new, like thrift items.

When it comes to consoles, phones, PCs, et cetera, I just can't do used. There's too much potential risk involved.

I'd recommend going 32GB at this point. May or may not be needed for the games you want to play but nice to have and shouldn't cost too much. As for storage I'd probably go with one larger SSD than two smaller ones

Might be another alternative fix to the ones suggested in the article linked. Not to use power limits unlocked but instead there should be an option to set the limits to what the CPU was advertised to as unlocking the power limits is said to push the CPU as much as it can and for as long as it can - hence the reports of high power draw in certain non gaming (and possibly some gaming) workloads. Will that nerf performance? maybe but ever so slightly. Question should be, do you want a system that will run stable or not?

I haven't used an Intel in ages, but this almost makes it seem like something akin to overclocking is almost the default now.

I had to double check the 4060 Ti specs sometimes Nvidia can be confusing, even though the Ti should be the highest end SKU whatever end of their GPU line up it appears but yeah that 8GB VRAM may struggle with some of the latest games even at 1080p as there are some that will exceed that and even make cards with 12GB sweat

took me a bit to figure out where (roughly) the Xbox Series X GPU stands. Its an RX 6800 but with some more CUs (compute units) cut out. Where the 6800 has 60 CUs the Series X has 52. Both are RDNA 2 as is the PS5 but it has 36 CUs putting it in as a slightly cut down RX 6700 XT (40 CUs) yet it has 16GB which would put it on the 6800 SKU path... Hardware can be confusing sometimes 😅

but yeah even my 7900 XTX struggles to achieve 4K 120 FPS in every title but that is probably my fault for wanting to crank up every non ray tracing setting to max 😅 and this GPU is a beast compared to all that I mentioned above. RDNA 3 so it has some stuff going on under the hood that will be improved on vs RDNA 2 and on top of that this is AMD's flagship RDNA 3 GPU with no compute units cut. Where RDNA 2 went up to 80 CUs (iirc) RDNA 3 goes up to 96 CUs.

NGL I though Ryzen model numbers sounded confusing too until I actually learned how they worked. For one thing I was under the impression that "Ryzen 5" identified a generation, rather than a moving target position in the hierarchy. Once I learned that 5000, 7000 etc were the generations, and "Ryzen 5" was more comparable to a term like i5... OK.

with this generation of GPUs (RTX 40 series and RX 7000 series) the model numbers definitely don't align like they used to. Afaik up to the 4080/SUPER you can add one SKU for AMD models while the 4090 is out there on its own

There were two points on the CPU package which could be bridged with graphite, since it is conductive. You literally would rub a pencil on the right spot.

Because there's more than one area in that market, people usually use low wattage chips for small form factor builds. And as a chip manufacturer you want to cover all areas, not just HEDT

To be Frank, not to hurt anyone's feelings but a lot of people will buy into getting the cream of the crop chipset from AMD or Intel and then not even utilise half of the cores or benefits of the improved performance, and could very easily get away with a cheaper chipset

that's where I don't understand why they didn't just keep it to the "X" models. You can enable ECO mode through BIOS or Ryzen Master and it will run at lower wattage and afaik it won't void one's warranty (unlike using PBO). I've only just come to mind of this but AMD released another CPU with a different suffix letter at the end 7500F I believe it was. All that does is remove the integrated AMD Radeon graphics that are on all Ryzen 7000 chips but again, just like ECO mode that can be changed with one setting in the BIOS and outside of the 8000G APUs the ones on Ryzen 7000 are only really useful if you run into issues with the GPU.

I feel that speaks a lot to me and no feeling hurt or that. I bought a 7950X3D nearly a year ago now, mostly out of impulse as I was afraid I'd be waiting some time when the 7800X3D released a few weeks later but yeah, at the time I could have saved some £250 had I waited and it would have been a CPU I would have made full use of as the 7950X3D's software optimizations made through Game Mode being enabled within windows settings and Xbox Game Bar for games that maybe aren't detected as a game right away only have me using half the CPU most of the time with the other half effectively parked until that game is closed.

I'd say if you plan to play Cyberpunk 2077 with RT or RT Overdrive enabled it is probably best to get an Nvidia GPU as AMD GPUs just won't cut it. FSR might help but it has also been reported the current implementation of FSR in Cyberpunk 2077 isn't very good and where possible to use Intel's XeSS instead as that seems to be of a higher quality to FSR. Hopefully something that will be fixed whenever the update with FSR 3 support does release

I think Coffee already has the motherboard so wouldn't make sense to go 7800X3D without first returning or selling that board and then getting an AMD 600 series equivalent motherboard and then following that up with the 7800X3D. RAM would have to be changed a little too as AMD's Ryzen 7000 series sweet spot is 6000 MHz CL30 with two sticks of RAM and going beyond that is a lottery, not to mention the slower boot times

Just found it odd how the created ICC profile appears so washed out, if that is even the right term for it. I'll give some example. Discord with the ICC profile disabled is darker. After activating it discord appears much more on the grey side

I'd recommend going higher spec than that - which of course will add to cost. 6800 XT is a very capable GPU though if you don't want to be upscaling with FSR or adding in fake frames with Frame Generation (where supported) you will be left with little choice but to be knocking on the door of the high-enthusiast end cards (4080 SUPER or 7900 XTX) and both will set you back around $1000 (USD). Only reason I didn't mention the 4090 is that is on a tier of its own and has a cost to match that. You'd be blowing at least $1600 on one of them alone

This is pretty much the go to system specs for 4K gaming. Alternatively, for CPU there is Intel with a 13700K (14th gen exists too but from what I've seen and heard there is little to get excited about) though with that you will have to change a couple things. Most notably the motherboard as AMD's motherboards won't support an Intel CPU (and vice versa) so with the 13700K you'd want to look at Intel Z790 motherboards and RAM you could go a little higher I believe with Intel than you can on AMD though at 4K it probably won't mean a whole lot. AMD recommend 6000 MHz CL30 kits with anything past that being something of a lottery (I don't recommend getting a RAM kit with 4 modules as that will limit frequency down to 3600 MHz)

If you want 4K, then, any ideal system and future proof system should aim for a 4090. Yes it’s more than a XTX but it’s also far more capable. You’re talking up to 30% faster at 4K, up to 66% faster with Ray Tracing and up to 70% faster with RT + Upscaling. This is absolutely significant performance. If you’re spending that much on a system, save up and get a 4090 for 4K.

Lastly, I’d argue that unless you absolutely need a PC, I’d wait till September to invest since new hardware is around the corner and would mark 2 years of the current hardware which will become old gen soon.

So if you need & want a PC right now, go ahead. If you can wait a few months, you’ll be get so much more performance for your money for the sake of 5-6 months.

ahh, well recommended specs are a fair bit lower than 4K. Most tend to target 1080p 60 FPS at high settings which considering the hardware that is available these days shouldn't cost too much (certainly not as much as the system I linked above)

I just tried something with my 7950X3D. Wanted a 7800X3D so I went into the BIOS to disable the second CCD (CCD 1 - Frequency cores) and now I am running with only the 3D V Cache cores and a bonus is that these cores are a little faster than the actual 7800X3D (5250MHz vs 5050MHz). Now I no longer have to worry about that scheduling stuff. If I was gaming at 1080p or 1440p I might have even seen a slight boost in performance on some games

In the store some games have as a feature "Play Anywhere" and that means the game is for XBOX and PC. some games also don't have that, so check the store page for whatever game you need to know about.

I get achievement notifications on my PC but also have a Odyssey OLED G9 so half the monitor is my Xbox and the other half is the PC. I've had times where I can't see them popping but that is usually when I am not logged into the Xbox app, or my Xbox isn't turned on; I don't know which one was the issue for them not appearing as a notification on my PC. I can still see the popping on my Xbox if they don't appear on my PC.

from what I see people are saying it's very inconsistent when it comes to them showing on screen, i've only had it as an issue once or twice before, maybe try relogging into the xbox app?

Im saying 1080p with fsr high or so. Fsr is upscaling tech that is used to optimize games on both ps5 and series consoles.

I was surprised to see that the Xbox consoles are considerably behind in market share in last years figures than PS5 & Switch. I bet there's a lot of Xbox app players on PC tho. Imo Xbox is the best system by far either on console or PC.
On another note - just recently built a decent gaming PC with some RGB in about 1½ hours just by watching a couple of relevant YouTube videos a few times over and making notes - I had no real idea what I was doing before.

From an outsiders, have no money to spend on consoles perspective, Xbox won. If you include people (like me) who are happy to buy game pass on PC, Xbox runs a few more yards forwards. PS5 now has the reputation of being way too dependent on the backlog of whatever is backwards compatible with PS4. Culturally Xbox being the ones who have caught up more compared to last gen, feels like a huge win. Because it is. The growth feels better than being the winner.

@full flint so i will touch my toe into the whole 'timing' debate.

Basically you have 2 values that matter with ram, raw 'speed' and then 'timings'

The timings are how fast the ram cycles through data, smaller timing can lead to lower latency and much more efficient ram, a higher speed can kind of compensate for this issue by simply letting the ram process data faster.

As for what you just said, I can not confirm nor deny that this will fix your fps issue. My only advice is that 16gb of ram is starting to get fairly out dated and MAY be what is leading to game crashes at higher graphical settings.

As for your FPS issue, as i suggested before, try turning on freesync for your monitor and see if that helps with the tearing.

To answer your question about the ram, the 3200 ram has better timings, but the 3600 has better speed.

I can tell you right now, it is insanely easier to overclock the speed of ram than to overclock the timings

So in my opinion, you should go with the 3200, as i showed you, you can easily pump that up to 3800 (mileage may vary) to get the best of both worlds

i should re-iterate, don't buy the ram thinking it'll solve all your problems. Upgrading your ram is kind of like... hmmm... replacing the compressor on your engine, you're allowing the computer to run faster and do more for relatively cheap compared to replacing the major functions, but at the end of the day if the fault lies elsewhere then you still have a problem

but what i will say also, if you run out of gpu ram your computer automatically does something called 'vram'. Basically it steals ram space from your physical ram sticks and 'gives' it to the gpu

anything that isn't desperately needed by your gpu can be placed on your main ram for, relatively, slower access, but in exchange you get more space to store stuff that needs to be accessed quickly

all I've known since getting into PC gaming for a motherboard BIOS is ASUS ROG. Looks pretty modern and is very clean. Not a whole lot has really changed besides of course my switch from Intel to AMD and a few settings here and there
