I don't think we'll see it for lower than $2000 tbh but who knows until it releases. OLED tech isn't new to monitors though 4K 240Hz OLED is definitely bleeding edge technology and OLED itself still has a premium on it compared to LED so if its not > $2000 I'll be very surprised

actually, I take that aback having watched the video. Available from February with a wider release in March for $1200... Now I want one

though I am waiting on monitors that support displayport 2.1 but those seem almost non existent. Only waiting on Nvidia to catch up with ports yet they seem to have quite a hold or something for hardly any display to have released in the past year and a bit since AMD launched their RX 7000 series that supports DP 2.1 up to 54Gbps (more bandwidth than even HDMI 2.1 at its maximum 48 Gbps can support!) DP 2.1 maximum bandwidth will go up to 80 Gbps iirc

for 240Hz without the use of DSC it does need DP 2.1 as I'm pretty sure that can handle 4K 480Hz (not sure if 8 bit, 10 bit or 12 bit though) and I mean Samsung proper. If you mean the display tech is from Samsung I'll take exception to that. I just want to steer clear of Samsung branded monitors going forward. Hopefully that doesn't then extend to their displays too as that would limit my choice of OLED to LG

The panel is what matters on OLED. The only difference is the outside plastic. It has almost no impact on performance except a heatsink may be able to allow to be slightly brighter.

480Hz OLED is as good as a hypothetical 720Hz LCD due to the technology of OLED.

So it’s future proof for a very long time, especially as when I game on PC, it’s for competitive MP

I'd just like to be able to make use of the feature since its been over a year now from AMD announcing the RX 7000 series and its support for Displayport 2.1 UHBR13.5 and only one monitor in that time has released with support for it (and I have no interest in it due to the cost and it being ultrawide/super ultrawide) so I'm not sure its an obsession as such

I can hold on and wait for true UHBR20 support between both GPU and display and go for it then by which point Nvidia should have caught up and there will be a surge in displayport 2.1 monitors. Possibly even on resolutions higher than 4K too (though perhaps not OLED/QD-OLED right away). Just love these bleeding edge features and technologies

Think I found the missing factor: Dolby vision & HDR.

4K 12 bit 4:4:4/RGB at 240Hz is around 82Gb/s already outstripping DP 2.1 cap of 80Gb/s

At HDR 10 it's around 68.5Gb/s

I'm not going to entertain HDR10+ due to the distinct lack of content.

But underneath it's also a Samsung panel so DV is out the picture (lol). Explains the specs though. Although I will say, VESA DisplayHDR 400 will look a bit crap.

While DP2.1 support is nice, I don't think the PQ will be that great and have the same issues many "cheap" monitors/TVs have with HDR: it looks bad.

Well that's false. The 12 bit support alters tone mapping when converted "down" to 10 bit for the display.

So 12 bit in --> 10 bit out can look different to 10 bit in --> 10 bit out

Flight simulator shows this off pretty well where 10 bit content blows bright highlight detail but the detail is retained at 12 bit even though the game is mastered at 10bit. The HDR brightness roll off curve can be different for the 2 formats as DV / HDR10+ targets 4000 nits and the curve compensates relative to panel peak brightness. At HDR 10 the target is 1000 nits so... different curve.

So sweeping generalisations aren't correct. It depends on the content, the display, the panel, display brightness curves for HDR, which depend on panel cooling (for OLED). There's a lot of moving parts.

Without DSC yes 1.4 is limited but with DSC it can happily do 4K 240Hz 10-bit

This is true to a degree, but you need the content to be mastered in 12-bit, which is currently for consumers use, Dolby Vision content. Even then, it has to be able to output 12-bit to a display that can accept that signal and re-interpret that as 10-bit. Even then, it’s on a case by case basis as to if it makes any difference, it’s not always going to be noticeable.

So while in theory, it can be beneficial, it’s not guaranteed in practiced which makes it a little pointless - especially when HDR is hit and miss on Windows.

And I’ve yet to see anything say you can play games on Widnows in Dolby Vision - I’ve not checked this for a while so feel free to link me to what’s supported as last time I checked (a while ago) - no games were supported on Windows.

I tried it early on with the preview drivers. Can be downloaded and quite liked what I was seeing. There's been a good number of updates since with all kinds of improvements so curious to see how the feature does when it exits preview. Of course where games support it FSR3 will be the better of the two and the drivers will probably state that similar to instances where games support FSR 2 there is usually a note not to use the driver level RSR. A future driver may also be enabling RSR and AFMF for video too (unless this is all coming together on the 24th)

I always change case every new build

the case is one component I kind of hope outlasts multiple rebuilds. Has done so far for me as it is now the only component I have left from my first gaming PC build back in 2016 (Corsair Carbide 400C) and while I like the case there is two or three factors that I know will eventually pull me away from it.
1). GPUs getting larger I'm good up to 340mm (I think) length GPUs otherwise I'll need to look at something new.
2). BTF and the requirement of a new case with the slots where all the connectors will be
3). USB C support (kind of an optional one but eventually all my devices will be USB type C and the existing case I have doesn't support it

still not completely sold on the whole upscaling thing but I've been running more games with FSR set to performance and like what I'm seeing since it has even allowed me to enable ray tracing in some games while still maintaining 60 FPS or greater. One thing I don't think i will take too kindly to is the whole fake frames thing with Frame Generation (or similarly named features). Sure enough I linked an article about AFMF recently but that was only to bring some awareness about the feature and the fact that from the 24th AMD will have "one upped" Nvidia since AFMF is supported on any DirectX 11 and 12 game. No waiting around for devs to add support like is required for FSR 3 or DLSS 3 and not locked to one generation of hardware either (unlike DLSS 3 again)

Hello, I get an error when unpacking Forza Horizon 5, I already had the game installed a few months ago, I tried installing another game Naraka Bladepoint and it doesn't give me an error, the error code is 80070005 I already tried everything I saw on YouTube and in forums and nothing works, I am installing it on the local hard drive, if when installing it on other hard drives it also gives me that problem, I also tried to transfer the downloaded files to another hard drive without unpacking and it gives me a permissions error. I don't think it so much is meant to improve performance but rather improve the load times in games where it would otherwise maybe take more than 30 seconds even on a SATA SSD and cut that to less than 10 seconds while also loading in game related stuff without all the annoying pop ins

Though I just wonder if AMD aren't missing out on further gains. Since the 8700G has some RDNA 3 compute units (12 CUs to be exact) there should be a way to utilize both APU and dedicated graphics (if also RDNA 3) together. Could already see such a combo being nice as streamers for instance could use the APU to encode in AV1 while it leaves the full power of their GPU to game on and I guess the AI could help these kinds of things?

No there is no data cap.
So with cloud play it runs smoother than when I installed the game. When installed, it was laggy almost like slow motion. Even in the settings.

Then I uninstalled and played off cloud and it ran smooth again.

I just wanted to decrease how much wifi I was using Incase I big the system down for others. But it seems pretty strong.

well I'd probably avoid the Founders Edition model, saying that it is still a 4080 SUPER and it will be pretty difficult to get right now (as Nvidia's FE cards tend to be not long after release) as for AIB models I'm really not sure what to suggest, sorry. Just be sure your power supply is up to the task of handling one of these GPUs either way

I don't know if this is a bug or intentional, but whenever I download a large game through the XBOX app on PC, it takes forever, and it doesn't even start downloading until, I assume, after it verifies the game size.

Current situation is I'm trying to download ARK, it starts off saying the download size is 10mb, and it increases by 10mb every second or so. It clearly SAYS the game is 171.5GB in size on the left, and the game isn't downloading, but the estimated download size keeps increasing

It's driving me nuts, it's been 8 hours and I've only gotten 100gb of the 175, not including the addons :/

the stuttering could be the HDD but there are other factors it could be too though upgrading to an SSD or M.2 NVMe is a good idea as the operating system and games will boot/load faster and prices on them (besides the highest capacities and latest gen 5 M.2 spec) have come down a lot over the years

Yeah a lot of games can make use of or require an SSD.

I don’t think high capacity ones are that relatively expensive so shouldn’t be too difficult to replace your HDD.
