Also, you can alt-tab to get to other windows too

Blocking Windows key is typically something a keyboard software or your physical keyboard itself does when entering a game, not something games do

Yeah, but it would be more convenient to be able to see what sort of download rate your getting task manager doesn't tell you the download rate when downloading a game as it only gives you stats for Xbox App itself. Also, although I don't use my actual Xbox all that much, it would nice to be able to get these stats on the console.

First, don’t use a gaming console as a pc. They’re similar and share features, but it’s still not a pc. Smartphone is closer to a pc.
Ok next, you won’t be able to use your laptop as monitor until it has a capture card. Which most laptops don’t.

I have a B550 aorus master MB, and have 3 installed m.2 2 installed SSD and 3 installed HDD. And with that I have 2 elgato capt cap card installed. Along my my GC.. my problem is now my Gc is now at 8x rather 16. How can I get the 16x with keeping my storage along with my cap cards?

That's an awful lot to have installed. Could be the M.2 SSDs and/or the capture cards you installed may be taking up all the available PCIe lanes leaving you with less than 16 for the GPU, though that may also depend on what you have as some cards on the lower end are x8 and not x16 on the PCIe to begin with and there is no way to change them. Might have to remove part of that system to get the x16 back. I'd also not be surprised if there are some other limitations being hit since with B550 most boards only allow all M.2 slots to be occupied if SATA or PCIe is turned off (bifurcation or some fancy word along that line)

each GPU uses up to x16, each M.2 SSD uses up to x4. Not sure what capture cards use but even the GPU and M.2s in use that is 28 lanes in use. Of that I believe 24 are on the CPU side and that should support one x16 gen 4 GPU + two x4 M.2 gen 4 SSDs. Motherboard then has some additional PCIe lanes via the chipset but they will be fewer and slower than those on the CPU. This image may explain things better than I doing right now 😄

sounds like a bluetooth issue

with xbox it uses the proprietary xbox wireless freq. on PC it uses bluetooth but if your module is lackluster that will happen. iirc they say to get the official microsoft wireless dongle for PC connectivity but I am not certain on that. ive not used my starfield headset on pc yet

but i do know that xbox peripherals generally seem to pair better with that adapter, especially with older PCs or ones that arent top-line with their bluetooth adapters that come native to the mobo.

So Vodafone have been putting new customers on digital voice contracts (which is VoIP). If you have an existing analogue POTS phone though, it'll just stop working and it's up to the customer to upgrade to digital voice. They are working with customers though without mobiles to keep a POTS phone if they still really want one.
But that's just Vodafone I guess, it'll vary by provider.

Today is the official FSR 3 release date and is now available on two games. Forspoken and Immortals of Aveum. Hopefully not too long before more games add support for it. Looking forward to trying it on Cyberpunk 2077 whenever that is updated to support it. Been having some fun with that game since update 2.0 and Phantom Liberty launched

looks like I don't have to wait for FSR 3 to be supported with Cyberpunk. Latest preview driver, while supporting those 12 games also allows experimental support for AFMF (AMD Fluid Motion Frames) on unsupported games. Going to give this a run and see how things are. Too excited right now 😄

getting more than 120 FPS (sometimes creeps into the 130's) on Cyberpunk 2077 with AFMF enabled at 4K ultra settings. Without it I'd be down in the 60's and 70's in FPS 😮 Though it took a bit to learn how to set it up just right (have to use AMD's performance metrics, MSI Afterburner/RTSS wasn't reporting correctly)

Frame generation is still rx 7000 series only I think even with fsr 3. Might be wrong, not 100% sure on that. Older cards can still use upscaling and the new native AA mode

yeah, at maxed settings it was strange. frame times way up but framerate did improve quite a bit (optimally I think AMD suggest the game runs at least 60 FPS for best results with FSR 3 + frame generation)

AMD fluid motion frames seems to work in games that don't have an exclusive fullscreen mode (meant to be one of the requirements to support it in game that it be set to that) and it leads me to something I don't quite understand. AMD recommending games use exclusive fullscreen yet wasn't DirectX 12 built without it? Various optimizations being made to have borderless fullscreen be just as good, if not better than exclusive fullscreen with Windows 11 extending this to DirectX 10 and 11 games. Either AMD are contradicting themselves a little or DirectX 12 has gone loose with the whole borderless/exclusive fullscreen thing. Always found it weird to see exclusive fullscreen in DirectX 12 games

oh yeah, I forgot Nvidia kind of requires vsync to be enabled with gsync (or used to) does that still apply even to gsync compatible displays? All I remember when I had my 1080 Ti is Nvidia recommended vsync be enabled at the driver level and turned off in game with gsync set to fullscreen for the best experience and I have no idea if that is still the case or what (has been a while since I dabbled with that stuff with AMD not requiring vsync to be enabled at all for Freesync to work

also, I've been testing the driver version of FSR 3 that AMD released as part of a preview driver so things are slightly different again. Even found out in the past hour or so I can enable it without using HYPR-RX and on top of that I can also use radeon image sharpening with it to get what would be similar to FSR 3 Native AA + frame generation or DLAA + frame generation just on a driver level and supporting a much wider range of games than either FSR 3 or DLSS 3 support

I think AMD even admitted they can't catch up with Nvidia so they are going to do their own thing from RDNA 4 onwards. Still great to see them getting small one ups on Nvidia now and again. Like the AFMF feature, when it will be properly live in Q1 2024 it will allow just about any DirectX 11 or DirectX 12 game to use a frame generation like feature. Something that up until yesterday was limited to Nvidia hardware (DLSS 3/DLAA) and select titles. Now you can add AMD FSR 3 and some more select titles. This just blows the whole frame generation thing wide open. How long now before we see Nvidia implement their own driver based solution I wonder to counter this?

(RX 8000 3rd gen ray tracing, RX 9000 4th gen ray tracing and so on)

there is even the possibility that AMD will ditch their higher end SKUs to focus mainly on the mid tier and lower seeing as they sell the best so could even be a case that there is no 8800 XT, 8900 XT or 8900 XTX (at least going by the existing 7000 series lineup SKUs)

I'm not even sure of the exact sales figures but just within AMD alone I'd think the 7700 XT and 7800 XT are outselling the higher end SKUs at least 3:1 which considering the 7700 XT or 7800 XT start at around $450-500 compared to double (or close to) that on the higher end SKUs they are making more back from the sale of 3 lower end cards to one higher end card, a whole $450-500 more and if you multiply that in the thousands for what is likely sales with that same 3:1 ratio (just as an example, it may even be higher) I can see where it actually makes some sense for AMD to drop the higher end SKUs

Forza Motorsport didn't support it, unless you mean FSR 2? Which I haven't yet tried though tbh I am not a fan of upscaling. Hardly any surprise at this point that AMD doesn't destroy an Nvidia feature. Choice of games to debut FSR 3 on was poor imo and to top it off Nvidia's features are all hardware based so that already puts them at a serious advantage over AMD. Enough to pay $500 extra for a 4090 over a 7900 XTX? I'm certainly beginning to question my purchase of the latter tbh but I'll give them a chance. DLSS 3 wasn't perfect even with that dedicated hardware from day one and things definitely aren't great with FSR 3. 6 months or so should give things a chance to settle and improve while adding a bunch more games, some that will hopefully give better results FSR 3's way

  It's possible I should be using 1000 as the divider rather than 1024. There are times when one is appropriate, and times when the other is appropriate. I just never know which is which. Does that sound like a realistic number for this drive? It's quite a lot.

The drive is still quite healthy with a wear-levelling count of 85. The attributes which should be zero are zero, and doesn't seem like any of them are past the threshold. It's not a new drive, but you should be fine... if that's what you were asking. If not, then ask a specific question.

The bottom line is this: All drives fail. Your drive will fail, eventually. However, you should not worry about this drive especially and you should practice good backup strategy so that a failed drive is a minor inconvenience.

These benchmark runs I did are with a system that is completely stock. No OC applied on the CPU, GPU or even RAM (running that at 5200 MHz JEDEC). Meanwhile there are reports of 4090 running as low as 39 FPS with full RTAO and DLSS set to performance at 4K and maxed settings. Without DLSS enabled it would drop to about 20 FPS

its one of the many settings I tend to look out for an turn off from the get go. Other settings include film grain, motion blur, lens flare and depth of field (think I got them all) will even go as far as to turn them off from a game's config file too, if required where there is no in game option though I would prefer if it didn't require a mod of sorts to do this

also, if upscaling solutions had a league table of sorts I'd imagine it plays out like so.

1. Nvidia DLSS (does it really need anything said about it?)
2. Intel XeSS (Intel GPU, dropping to 3rd if used with an AMD or Nvidia GPU and game engine upscaling taking 2nd spot)
3. game engine upscaling (where applicable - would be highly optimized for that game and its assets so surely it would result in better image quality etc than something more generic like AMD's FSR)

craziest part is the 7800X3D can still hold its own, even against a refreshed CPU from Intel that also has memory speeds some 1200 MHz higher than what is possible with current AM5 boards (6000 MHz vs 7200MHz) games that favour the RAM speed over 3D V Cache are going to see the Intel cores favoured and I believe one such example of that from the Hardware Unbox video plays out with Starfield. Meanwhile Factorio shows what the 3D V Cache can do (at least until it is met with a huge map that consumes all the cache)

yeah, the optimizing shader thing is happening every time I load up the game. Didn't think anything of it since there are other games that do similar but was a bit more surprised to see all 16 cores from my CPU being hammered up to 100% as most other instances of this with other games (even the FH5 example I gave earlier) tend to only hammer the 3D V Cache CCD (CPU1-16 on the RTSS overlay I have setup) while the frequency CCD (CPU17-32) would be at 1% or the occasional cores being active but definitely nothing like FM. That's Cinebench level CPU usage

you don't really have to go for a liquid cooler. AMD's Wraith cooler will do if running stock but won't be ideal and the next level up from that in terms of cooling is another air cooler. I'd recommend Arctic's Freezer 34 esports duo having built with it twice and it seems to keep something as powerful as a 7950X3D pretty cool and it won't break the bank like some liquid coolers can (costs £50 compared to most AIO coolers costing at least double that up to 5x that). Just be sure your case can fit this cooler and is compatible with the RAM you have installed as it is a little bulky

Yeah in them Paradox games there's a lot of pathfinding and "AI" going on. I've got a map on surviving mars that chugs pretty heavily no matter what the GPU settings are because of all the ||flying drones|| and from what I can gather, a CPU upgrade won't even necessarily make it run significantly better

That's a bit much, not ideal. We have a computer that idles around the same but it's overclocked to hell and back so that explains it. If you're running default clocks then I'd want it to be significantly cooler.

very odd but I think I can now use the 120Hz mode on my monitor. Before when I tried it there would be screen tearing and it was annoying, even with freesync enabled and it only took some driver on my monitor's support page to seemingly correct that. This has taken me over a year to figure out, on a £1200 monitor... idk anymore with tech

same but I don't get why it required a driver to work. Just happy to now hopefully be able to game screen tear free while having a lower freesync range since 4K is still very demanding. 48-120Hz is more in line with how 4K ultra settings does with my PC but in framerate compared to what the 240Hz mode's range (68-240Hz) and I've also got LFC to fall back on a little less (only should games drop below 48 FPS vs 68 FPS) where it doubles the monitor's refresh rate

When I saw the article about Cities Skyline 2 it frustrated me. Probably won't play it though as it isn't my type of game but still, the number of games releasing in a poor state these days is becoming troubling. Its like release now and fix later is becoming the norm and yeah, I'm aware this isn't the fault of the devs but rather the higher ups. What do they have to gain from pushing a game out too early? Sales may be alright to start with but if it is one of these games that are unfinished those sales will drop fast and possibly even that games and/or devs reputation for no reason. Sorry for my rant btw, it's just really getting on my nerves 😦

So chatgpt (errr yeah I've researched this well) says the monitor requests a frame and then the graphics card fullfills it. If the frame is "late", the refresh rate of the monitor is dropped to match FPS. Which suggests to me if the GPU FPS and monitor can't sync, you'll get tearing? I suspect the driver patch has allowed it to update the monitor refresh rate more quickly so fixed the tearing.

that would probably make sense if I was gaming without AMD Freesync though saying that I noticed screen tearing in games when I selected the 120Hz mode my monitor supports in the past and it also supports AMD Freesync via Adaptive Sync but I wouldn't think that causes any trouble seeing as they are similar technologies. It just puzzled me how and why one of these generic drivers may have actually fixed that. I had read up most users wouldn't need to install such drivers these days. Almost laughable really that it appears a £1200 monitor needs this for one of its modes to work properly

even reading the monitor's manual the 120Hz mode is meant to be "optimum" while 240Hz mode is considered as "maximum". If anything I would have thought some shenanigans may have been required for the 240Hz mode since that involves DSC over HDMI 2.1 or Displayport 1.4

DLSS performance preset would be like running 1080p at 4K and since DLSS 3.5 is meant to improve certain stuff around ray tracing there is that slight improvement too. Without frame generation you could pretty much half those results so around 65 FPS

I'd be more curious to see how much better the game suddenly performs without ray tracing and maybe enable stuff like DLAA and frame generation if it allows. DLAA should improve the anti aliasing side of things with a relatively minor impact to performance (nothing the likes of a 4090 couldn't handle) and then frame generation would double that FPS from there so you could get similar, if not better from this too. All you'd be missing out on it the ray tracing but at this point everyone should know it kills performance. Could be up to 3x better performance with RT off. 32 FPS becoming 96 FPS or possibly as high as 190 FPS at 4K with what I mentioned prior

Yeah, chart here says a 3080Ti should be able to do it at ultra without RT but that's still in performance mode. I'd imagine 1440p and high/ultra would be more realistic for DLSS quality mode

at the very top end of things a PC equivalent to the Series X would include an AMD Ryzen Zen 2 (3000 series) 8 core CPU and since desktop CPUs clock higher it would already have some advantage over the console's CPU then the RDNA 2 GPU in a console is below an RX 6800 based of the number of CUs (compute units) it has so one would think going for a system higher end than that would be enough but it sure doesn't seem that way

Yeah, I think the difference now is that the midrange offerings from Nvidia are pretty bad for the prices they ask, you have to get to the upper midrange to have something decent which wasn't as much of an issues before. GTX 1060 or 970 at the time could play most games at high or ultra for 1080p and still not break the bank.

based off these specs my system and its AMD Ryzen 7950X3D (Zen 4 + 3D V Cache) and 7900 XTX (RDNA 3) should be able to breeze through 4K gaming if the console is to be considered as a baseline of sorts

Bugs happen, I don't think it was your display though. You can buy almost anything and have it be dead on arrival too. You'd hope more expensive = better quality control but these things still happen

true and unfortunately Samsung seem to be pretty poor with their monitors quality control. Sooner or later I will have an OLED monitor though. Even considering dropping back down to 1440p if it means going OLED. Would mean higher framerates in games but then what do i do after I upgrade again as 1440p may then hold back my system? Already being on 4K feels like a 4K OLED monitor would be a waste as the only major change would be panel type and I should aim higher resolution still 5K (5120x2880) but that will likely cost even more and require even more power from a system. At times I feel I've backed myself into a corner with my hardware and idk what to do lol

btw, had a pretty epic race on Forza Motorsport. Qualified 10th, finished 13th but at one point in the race I was last (22nd) and managed to claw back 9 places. 12th held on well. Had a few chances to overtake and I just couldn't quite get there 😦

It's back to the "you can get higher resolution than 4K displays but how much content actually uses it?" whole thing too. I do think a solid chunk of this might be the "upgrade bug" too?
