Well, I built my first PC. Had a problem because the front panel connectors wasn't in right. But once I done that, fired up straight away. Put it on the latest bios too. I'm so happy. 😄

I also couldn't find where to put the sata ssd, there's no space for it. But I have a HDD in and an M.2 2280 in it.

The CPU is also running a little toasty, not much load on it either.

I used the M.2 slot. I had to order a M.2 spacer/screw. And the HDD is in fine. Really couldn't see where to put the 2.5" - it states it can have two 2.5" in the case.

just as well I got my copy of the game free then... I get game development is difficult but how or why do games keep releasing in such a horrible state on PC? Surely there is some level of optimization that can be done to avoid this? Just sad really, especially when games are delayed and still release in such a state. That extra time delayed I'd sure hope is being put to good use fixing bugs and applying some last minute optimizations. Sorry for sounding entitled or whatever but I feel it is happening far too much and something has to change about it before it becomes the standard. Putting out a poorly optimized title at launch and later fixing it 😦

That's my nephew's PC sorted! 5600 (non-x) 16GB DDR4 3000MHZ and a RX 580 8GB. I downloaded Fortnite and tested it. And Warzone 2. Both ran great. 😄

I kept the one I built and transferred over the 3060. I was too proud of building it myself so I'm keeping it. 😄

One reason why I've gravitated back to console for the most part. Coin flip if a game works on release for PC now. There was a nice period of time between 2010 up until recently where things were smoother for a while like Dark mentioned.

2700X being 8 core it has the edge on the 5600/X on core count but Zen+ vs Zen 3 the latter (Zen 3) should blow the other away so really your CPU should be fine, if you are having any doubts about its performance just when games recommend an 8 core CPU that is likely the optimal number of cores that game would ideally like to run on

I ended up kinda pausing my playthrough of Star Wars Jedi Survivor after about seven hours due to some pretty nasty pre-patch technical issues. Hoping everything is in ship-shape by the time the game comes out. It seems fantastic, but it crashed for me on PC quite a lot.

Well, I have a 2060 12gb, and its running horribly at launch

doesn't seem to matter what graphical settings I choose, it runs like crap and around 40fps

Got Star Wars Jedi Survivor installing and oh boy, is it s big game! Nearly 129GB. Games that big fall under an uninstall thing with me where if I don't like them, get bored or complete them they are the first game to go in terms of what I have installed. It's right up there with Forza Horizon 5, which is something like 160GB (including all additional content)

ahh, going to update the drivers before trying to get too into it but so far performance isn't completely horrible as I was expecting but 4K epic (without ray tracing) has my system run below 60 FPS (50-60 FPS) so this is easily one of the most demanding games without ray tracing I've played. A Plague Tale: Requiem being a close second

Windows 10/11 is weird, very weird. If I install Win10/11 and leave freesync on and go into graphics settings. Variable refresh rate is not there. But if I turn it off then on. It's enabled like in the screenshot.

That is how VRR works

if your monitor does not have it's Adaptive-Sync tech enabled, then it will not be recognized as a monitor that supports VRR

Freesync, Gsync, and generic Async refresh rates are just various types of VRR

reached 21GB VRAM usage on Star Wars: Jedi: Survivor but still smooth as butter. No major frame drops to report. Actually runs pretty well, despite hovering around 50-60 FPS

I was expecting a very choppy, unplayable experience but so far so good that isn't the case 🙂

I've seen similar VRAM usage with Hogwarts Legacy and it appeared no one batted an eye to that. Games are using more VRAM overall and sure, 21GB is very excessive but I think this'll be another game that will demand GPUs have >8GB VRAM. 12GB seems the minimum while 16GB seems ideal for some of the recent releases. Anything past that is a bonus

It's enabled by default on 11. I presumed it didn't work on 10 until I turned it off/on and now it's magically there.

I think it only needs to be enabled for games that didn't previously support VRR (I'm guessing games installed through the Microsoft Store/Xbox app? idk exactly) and that might have been why it was turned off by default on W10. No idea why W11 then turns it on by default but that setting has always confused me when graphics cards have support for their own solution

apologies there, I probably confused myself then lol. I often do when this gets brought up. I just left it as it was and have barely touched it tbh. If you notice games look choppy even with Freesync or G-Sync enabled and active you can always turn that setting on and see if it corrects itself from there but I'm sure for the most part setting up Freesync or G-Sync will be all that is needed. Just keep in mind G-Sync might not work with windowed games without selecting Fullscreen and windowed within the NVCP

This is the game running on a 7800X3D+RTX 4090 at 4K max with RT enabled and FSR 2 Performance. GPU usage is at 43% and framerate is at 51 FPS. So not even the fastest CPU+GPU combo on the planet can max this game out and get 60 FPS all the time.

I'm getting similar FPS but with RT off and FSR 2 off, otherwise 4K and Epic settings

10 only has 2.5 years of support left so they probably don’t want to invest the dev time in it anymore. It’s pretty much how previous versions of windows were treated after mainstream support has ended. It’s just about maintaining what is there now until EOL.

in terms of how the game performs like I said earlier it is close to A Plague Tale Requiem. Only difference is that game has dynamic resolution forced on with no way to turn it off so if performance looked good on that game, that was likely why. If it could be turned off and play at native resolution with maxed settings every chance it would reclaim the crown as one of the most demanding games

At this point a card with less than 12GB no longer guarantees a playable gaming experience with most of 2023's game releases. Crazy that considering just last year questions were being raised about 4GB VRAM no longer being enough so within 16 months PC gaming landscape seems to have changed dramatically from 4GB+ being ok to <12GB VRAM not ok

also, Respawn blaming gamers for sticking with Windows 10? what... Unless Star Wars Jedi Survivor happens to be making use of DirectStorage to the fullest where Windows 10's supposed limited support for the feature could cause problems both Windows 10 and Windows 11 are pretty similar under the hood. If anything some have no choice but to remain on Windows 10 without either upgrading or enabling TPM (if supported by their motherboard)

it's an update for the game that updates and corrects issues and errors

I’m not sure why it’s running so poorly. The game doesn’t look very visually intensive and there isn’t really much going on to stress out the CPU either. Very long stretches of gameplay where the player doesn’t even encounter enemies yet the framerate is horrendous.

hopped on Redfall to check CPU usage on my 7950X3D and other than the obvious CCD1 (frequency) being parked and showing 0 or 1% usage it appears to be utilizing most, if not all of the cores as I would expect games these days to do so. None of the CCD0 cores had low usage

Less than 50% usage almost all the time on my 10900K and 3080Ti for me on the new Nvidia driver. Doesn’t seem to matter what settings it’s on. Also a memory leak seems to be happening after playing for a while that is tanking performance even more.

yeah, according to DSOGaming past 6 cores and 6 threads it becomes diminishing returns with multithread actually dropping performance a little past that. I like their PC game performance analysis as outside of EA games that may limit their testing they show how a game performs between 2c/2t right up to 8c/16t

Honestly that chart looks like it's not a huge improvement from anywhere north of two cores. Certainly beyond 4 cores seems fine for a lot of folks. Though it's import to remember that not all cores are created equal.

Isn't hyperthreading is usually a big differentiator on quad cores? Here its just +10fps average, and little under +20fps on the lows.

Well, you'd be right to a point, Sol but who would game with a 4090 on a 2c/2t or 2c/4t CPU? There is still plenty of performance to be had going up 6c/6t where it effectively drops off but what I'd be curious about is how the same testing compares but with an AMD GPU since Nvidia GPUs are known to have a CPU overhead problem and idk but it may (or may not) be affecting these kind of results somewhat

4090 FE iirc runs at 450W but also has the option to use up to 600W, hence the 12vhpwr connector it uses (that being rated up to 600W) obviously with transient spikes that may be higher still but only for a matter of milliseconds (still long enough to trip a power supply if it isn't up to the task)

I don't think there is much that will help other than making sure you play at native resolution and with FSR disabled. (game shouldn't be blurry then otherwise idk what is going on) PC Port is in a poor condition but there will be updates over time

My main issue with the EA app compared to Origin is that there isn't any functionality to locate existing installs as far as I can tell.

considering they launched a 3060 or 3060 Ti with 12GB that would have put it put there with the 3080 12GB (if that was an official GPU) or 3080 Ti, at least in terms of memory capacity it doesn't really surprise me lol. It will at least allow gamers on the lower end the chance to play games that may have demanded more than 8GB had they stuck to just releasing a 4060 with 8GB even though that probably would have made the most sense. 4060 8GB - 4070 12GB - 4080 16GB -4090 24GB and that is pretty much how it is, just with some added Ti in between lol

4060 with 8GB maybe justifiable but 4060Ti 8GB would be a mistake from a consumers point of view imo. With 8GB you are getting less than console quality textures in demanding games now unless they are well optimised. I really think releasing the 4070 with 12GB was a mistake as well, especially the 4070Ti. Looking at how the 3070 has aged, I would predict the same thing may happen here in a 2-3 years time.

Are you actually developing for Windows? Because I am sure that would make a huge difference to how I feel. While I can develop for Windows at a pinch (maybe not super-well) I'm mostly working on things which are not.

Yeah you're forced to do it for iOS. Android wasn't as bad on windows but I developed on Mac too, so it became a mobile app laptop

In terms of web dev as well having access to Safari and the apple exclusive stuff like Xcode is very beneficial. Not impossible on Windows at all but you need to use alternative methods

I'm not a fan of xcode personally

I just use vscode for front-end and intellij (since java) for back-end

Xcode was just overkill for a lot of stuff I worked on web wise

The simulator packages are very nice when testing your web app on mobile devices with Xcode. Would need to use something like browserstack when on Linux or Windows.

Although the enemies scale, you will get better weapons and more abilities to upgrade them with which can make combat easier.

U need to get better gear and weapons and loot everything. I would disassemble all broken weapons

Once you upgrade some weapons and apply modifiers to them, they can be invaluable in combat. Dismantling those when broken is a waste when you can just repair them.

For the greys, yes. Once you get green upwards, sell or salvage the grey ones.

doing all that as I go along (in a habit of that sort of thing with these games) but no matter what zombies find a way to still kill me. Haven't had this many deaths in a game so early on without giving up on said game quickly after

Also, don't worry if you have a full inventory and see a mid-range weapon you think you may want down the line with some upgrades. You can leave it behind and next time you're at a workbench open the storage cupboard and press RB to view the missed weapons.

Overall the game wasn't too bad, but a couple of the boss fights were a pain - especially the final boss.

But that was partly because I reached that fight and didn't have much ammo, which is really useful in that fight, so made it more difficult.
